Download or read book Finite Element Error Analysis for PDE constrained Optimal Control Problems written by Dieter Sirch and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subject of this work is the analysis of numerical methods for the solution of optimal control problems governed by elliptic partial differential equations. Such problems arise, if one does not only want to simulate technical or physical processes but also wants to optimize them with the help of one or more influence variables. In many practical applications these influence variables, so called controls, cannot be chosen arbitrarily, but have to fulfill certain inequality constraints. The numerical treatment of such control constrained optimal control problems requires a discretization of the underlying infinite dimensional function spaces. To guarantee the quality of the numerical solution one has to estimate and to quantify the resulting approximation errors. In this thesis a priori error estimates for finite element discretizations are proved in case of corners or edges in the underlying domain and nonsmooth coefficients in the partial differential equation. These facts influence the regularity properties of the solution and require adapted meshes to get optimal convergence rates. Isotropic and anisotropic refinement strategies are given and error estimates in polygonal and prismatic domains are proved. The theoretical results are confirmed by numerical tests.
Download or read book Nonsmooth Optimization Analysis And Algorithms With Applications To Optimal Control written by Marko M Makela and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-05-07 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained elementary study for nonsmooth analysis and optimization, and their use in solution of nonsmooth optimal control problems. The first part of the book is concerned with nonsmooth differential calculus containing necessary tools for nonsmooth optimization. The second part is devoted to the methods of nonsmooth optimization and their development. A proximal bundle method for nonsmooth nonconvex optimization subject to nonsmooth constraints is constructed. In the last part nonsmooth optimization is applied to problems arising from optimal control of systems covered by partial differential equations. Several practical problems, like process control and optimal shape design problems are considered.

This book was released on 2009-05-21 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This softcover book is a self-contained account of the theory of viscosity solutions for first-order partial differential equations of Hamilton–Jacobi type and its interplay with Bellman’s dynamic programming approach to optimal control and differential games. It will be of interest to scientists involved in the theory of optimal control of deterministic linear and nonlinear systems. The work may be used by graduate students and researchers in control theory both as an introductory textbook and as an up-to-date reference book.
Download or read book Control and Optimization with Differential Algebraic Constraints written by Lorenz T. Biegler and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential-algebraic equations are the most natural way to mathematically model many complex systems in science and engineering. Once the model is derived, it is important to optimize the design parameters and control it in the most robust and efficient way to maximize performance. This book presents the latest theory and numerical methods for the optimal control of differential-algebraic equations. The following features are presented in a readable fashion so the results are accessible to the widest audience: the most recent theory, written by leading experts from a number of academic and nonacademic areas and departments; several state-of-the-art numerical methods; and real-world applications.

Download or read book Dynamics and Control of Trajectory Tubes written by Alexander B. Kurzhanski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-27 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents theoretical methods involving the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman formalism in conjunction with set-valued techniques of nonlinear analysis to solve significant problems in dynamics and control. The emphasis is on issues of reachability, feedback control synthesis under complex state constraints, hard or double bounds on controls, and performance in finite time. Guaranteed state estimation, output feedback control, and hybrid dynamics are also discussed. Although the focus is on systems with linear structure, the authors indicate how to apply each approach to nonlinear and nonconvex systems. The main theoretical results lead to computational schemes based on extensions of ellipsoidal calculus that provide complete solutions to the problems. These computational schemes in turn yield software tools that can be applied effectively to high-dimensional systems. Ellipsoidal Techniques for Problems of Dynamics and Control: Theory and Computation will interest graduate and senior undergraduate students, as well as researchers and practitioners interested in control theory, its applications, and its computational realizations.
