Book Aunt Dimity and the Widow s Curse

Download or read book Aunt Dimity and the Widow s Curse written by Nancy Atherton and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nancy Atherton's twenty-second cozy mystery in the beloved, nationally bestselling Aunt Dimity series. It's early April in the small English village of Finch. Lori Shepherd's husband and sons are spending Easter break camping, and Lori is perfectly happy to be left at home with Bess, spared a week of roughing it with a curious toddler. The two attend a village events committee meeting and Lori is astonished when the elderly, soft-spoken widow Mrs. Annabelle Craven stands to make an announcement: she's decided to hold a quilting bee in the old schoolhouse. At the quilting bee, Lori ends up seated beside Mrs. Craven, delighted at the opportunity to learn more about her neighbor's life in the village of Old Cowerton. But dear, sweet Mrs. Craven's stories reveal a startling secret about her first husband's death. With Aunt Dimity's advice, Lori sets out to learn the truth about what the residents of Old Cowerton refer to as the "widow's curse"--and the deeper she digs, the more horrifying the tale becomes, until she discovers the most astounding revelation of all. Watch out for Atherton's latest, Aunt Dimity and the King's Ransom, coming out in July 2018!

Book Toddler Storytimes II

    Book Details:
  • Author : Diane Briggs
  • Publisher : Scarecrow Press
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN : 9780810860575
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book Toddler Storytimes II written by Diane Briggs and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School Library Journal: With 25 theme-based chapters, this is a handy resource. Each theme includes book recommendations, often 10 or more, with a nice mixture of classic and newer titles, and a suggestion to choose two or three per session. Words and instructions for fingerplays, rhymes, and songs are provided, while a discography provides melody sources for all songs. Each theme includes a flannel-board activity, complete with reproducible patterns and brief directions on how to present the story or song on the board. Safe and simple crafts ideas are presented as optional activities. Activities are listed by type, rather than in an ordered list, so tellers can pick, choose, and order according to individual style and preference. An introduction provides tips and rationale for all of the types of activities. A couple of sentences note the potential impact on brain development and early-literacy skills, but the focus is on the activities themselves; strategies for sharing early-literacy information with parents and caregivers are not addressed. Judy Nichols's Storytimes for Two-Year-Olds (ALA, 2007) and Linda L. Ernst's Baby Rhyming Time (Neal-Schuman, 2008) provide more comprehensive looks at all aspects of storytime planning and presentation. This update of Briggs's Toddler Storytime Programs (Scarecrow, 1993) will be most useful as a resource for programming ideas and fleshing out themes.

Book excerpt: Many farmers do not realize that small streams may be used in generating electricity. Electrical equipment on the farm saves time and labor, but if it is to be a sound investment the cost of installation should not be greater than the benefits obtained can justify. The purpose of this bulletin is to acquaint farmers with the possibilities of developing the power of small streams by converting it into electrical energy and the uses to which such power can be put; to give information which will enable them to avoid unnecessary expenditures; to explain how to determine the power a stream will supply; and to indicate the sources from which to secure additional information regarding the approximate cost of installing a plant suited to the power available. The details of design, installation, and operation of electrical equipment are not within the scope of this bulletin.
