Book Digital Innovation in German SMEs

Download or read book Digital Innovation in German SMEs written by Maximilian Vetter and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing importance of digital innovations and the fact that SMEs play a significant role in the success of the German economy, in general, are not new findings. The literature to date highlights the complexity of software products and the skills as well as resources required for this process. At the same time SMEs are portrayed as highly innovative, constantly facing up to the not underestimated risk of innovation and, in many cases, mastering this risk. This study starts precisely here and brings together the two topics of SMEs and digital innovations. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between industrial SMEs and smart products. The hypotheses formed in theory, according to which SMEs develop digital innovations and in particular customer demand has a significant influence on this, were confirmed. Additional influencing factors could not be fully substantiated, but further studies with modified research methodologies can be investigated in more detail. Nevertheless, it is essential to recognize that the German SME sector has not failed to attract new business and that this innovative instinct will hopefully not be lacking in the future. In particular, this study serves as a basis and an impulse for further studies since this sector is the "backbone" of the German economy and deserves more recognition in the literature. Keywords: Innovation, Technological Innovation, Digital Innovation, SME, Smart Products, Software Development, Open Innovation, Resources, Competencies, Capabilities.

Book German and Chinese Contributions to Digitalization

Download or read book German and Chinese Contributions to Digitalization written by Andreas Oberheitmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-01 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digitalization is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st Century. In Germany, the concept of Industry 4.0 goes back to the high-tech strategy of the Federal Government and describes the interlocking of industrial production with the latest information and communication technology. In the intelligent factory, intelligent and networked machines will operate, decide and optimize largely autonomously in cooperation with humans. For China, the German concept Industry 4.0 is a strategic source of inspiration. Among other things, it was a model for the current Chinese innovation and industrial policy strategy Made in China 2025. This book is looking into different aspects of digitalization. Part 1 presents the concept of Industry 4.0, both, from the German and the Chinese perspective. Part 2 describes the Chinese innovation concept Made in China 2025 within different economic sectors in China and discusses to what extent Industry 4.0 might be considered its role model. Part 3 presents the opportunities and challenges of digitalization and big data from a regional perspective. Part 4 analyses the special aspect of the impacts of digitalization for the banking sector and international trade cooperation. Finally, Part 5 focuses on digitalization and innovation considering small and medium-sized companies in particular.

Book Industry 4 0 for SMEs

Download or read book Industry 4 0 for SMEs written by Dominik T. Matt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-03 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book explores the concept of Industry 4.0, which presents a considerable challenge for the production and service sectors. While digitization initiatives are usually integrated into the central corporate strategy of larger companies, smaller firms often have problems putting Industry 4.0 paradigms into practice. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) possess neither the human nor financial resources to systematically investigate the potential and risks of introducing Industry 4.0. Addressing this obstacle, the international team of authors focuses on the development of smart manufacturing concepts, logistics solutions and managerial models specifically for SMEs. Aiming to provide methodological frameworks and pilot solutions for SMEs during their digital transformation, this innovative and timely book will be of great use to scholars researching technology management, digitization and small business, as well as practitioners within manufacturing companies.

This book was released on 2021-02-03 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Emerging technologies, as diverse as they are, offer a range of applications for them to improve performance and overcome the size-related limitations they face in doing business. However, SMEs must be better prepared, and stakes are high. SMEs make the most of the industrial fabric in many countries and regions, they create jobs (most jobs sometimes) and are the cement of inclusive and sustainable societies.

Book Innovation Practices of REWE Markt in Germany Digital Innovation and Business Strategy

Download or read book Innovation Practices of REWE Markt in Germany Digital Innovation and Business Strategy written by Karolin Hommel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,7, Sophia Antipolis Campus (France); SKEMA Business School, language: English, abstract: The German retailer REWE Markt emphasizes digital innovation in their business strategy to optimize its supply chain efficiency and to be first in new innovative solutions that attract customers in- and off-store, off- and online. The following paper addresses digital innovation practices of REWE Markt over the past years as well as its role within the retail industry that it takes in digital terms. For 2016, one can expect new dynamics in the retail business in Europe. Amazon announced in 2015 to introduce Amazon Fresh in some European countries. Its online shopping service for fresh grocery will include delivery times less than twenty-four hours after putting the order. Competitors reactions have been for instance improved delivery times of only few hours after the order to outperform Amazon in advance. E-commerce is merely one of the big digital issues where retailers are forced to invest. Connected with that is also a great logistic chain that has to be digitally coordinated in order to keep track on the demand and crowds of data that have to be processed. Furthermore, there are efforts to develop digital in-store solutions for an improved shopping experience. In the past years, big traditional retail players have missed the chance to develop accordingly to the pace of technological developments. Now where non-traditional retail companies such as Amazon expand into grocery offerings as well as extent their logistical facilities, they are finally in their wake-up mode and grow their efforts to innovate digitally as this is a key competitive factor.

Book Clusters Digital Transformation and Regional Development in Germany

Download or read book Clusters Digital Transformation and Regional Development in Germany written by Marta Götz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The information age is reshaping current socio-economic structures and processes and this book touches upon the nature of clusters in the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0; I4.0). It focuses on the spatial perspective of digital business transformation and explores in natural context the interrelations between cluster and I4.0. It investigates the role of knowledge, business relations and policy in making cluster relevant for Industry 4.0 and uses the case study method and literature review to develop a conceptual framework outlining the functioning of Industry 4.0 cluster. This book argues that locally embedded knowledge accompanied by strong presence of industry and assisted by proper governance management facilitate the implementation of I4.0. The idiosyncrasies of Industry 4.0 impact also the functioning of cluster as they require more interdisciplinary integrative approach with the provision of industrial commons and development of related varieties. Natural processes of stretching of the cluster cannot be prevented, but should be harnessed for upgrading the core competences of cluster. This book can enrich existing literature on economic geography and regional studies by discussing the spatial aspects of digital transformation. It shows the cluster transformation as induced by the digital transformation, and will be of interest to researchers, academics, policymakers, and students who explore the regional and local development, competitiveness, or managerial aspects of fourth industrial revolution.

Book Increasing Customer Innovation in SMEs with Digitalization

Download or read book Increasing Customer Innovation in SMEs with Digitalization written by Baltic Sea Academy and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While larger corporations often lead in the realm of innovation, many Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) lag behind, especially in Eastern Europe. Their limited internal resources often become a bottleneck, making it challenging to address vital customer innovation. At its core, successful innovation management revolves around understanding and addressing genuine customer needs, fostering innovative business ideas and concepts. For many SMEs, the challenge lies not just in obtaining customer feedback, but also in effectively processing this feedback into actionable insights. The path to truly customer-centric innovation is intricate, necessitating transformations at every organizational level. Yet, with the dawn of digitalization and new media, a myriad of opportunities has emerged. These technologies empower SMEs to harness customer-centric innovations, bolstering their innovative prowess and market competitiveness. Surprisingly, the majority of SMEs remain unaware or underr-equipped to leverage these digital tools and methods. Against this background, the international Erasmu+ project 'Digital methods, toolbox and trainings for increasing customer innovation in SMEs' (ICIinSMEs) was implemented from 2020 - 2023, to enable and support SMEs to exploit their customer innovation potential and thus to strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of SMEs, to secure existing jobs and to create new ones. The book compiles the main results and experiences from Denmark, Germany, Hungary and Poland.

Book Success factors for digital transformation

Download or read book Success factors for digital transformation written by Johannes Schmidt and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Controlling, grade: 1,3, Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences (Wiesbaden Business School), language: English, abstract: The main goal of this thesis is to thoroughly investigate what digital transformation is and which general success factors exist for businesses. It then collates in a concise way whether and to what extent selected German car manufacturers comply with these success factors. "Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road"“ - Stewart Brand This metaphor skillfully illustrates what happens to businesses that do not take part in technological progression: they get obliterated. In addition, the cycle of new technologies is spinning faster and faster ever since, making it increasingly difficult for companies to survive and flourish. As evidence for this situation the average longevity of businesses in the S&P 500 index can be adduced. While in 1964, in average, a business would stay 33 years in the index, the duration went down to 24 years in 2016. It is estimated that this number will be cut in half by the year 2027. The major force behind this in the recent past is the digital transformation. Just a few years ago it was common standard to rent a movie in a video rental store, buy books at the local book store and to take pictures with analogue cameras. Among the most famous businesses in these markets were Blockbuster, Borders and Kodak. Nowadays, they are immaterial. The first two filed for bankruptcy and the latter is still trying to salvage itself. All of them share the same fate: they underestimated the change that came with digital innovations. In their place digital champions now reign: Netflix, Amazon and Samsung. If a similar fate would befall the German automotive industry, it would be devastating for the whole economy as over 1.8 million jobs are directly or indirectly dependent on it. In fact, among the four highest grossing companies in Germany 2017 were three car manufacturers. The extreme significance of this industry is evident.

Book From Automation to Databased Business Models

Download or read book From Automation to Databased Business Models written by Jörg Thomä and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to better understand the complex interplay between digital technologies, competences and innovation, the present paper examines the digitalization-innovation link in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Starting from a review of the fourth edition of the Oslo Manual, a qualitative content analysis (QCA) of interview data on innovating German SMEs is conducted to derive a category system that covers the multidimensional relationship between digitalization and firm-level innovation. Its empirical application shows the heterogeneity of innovating SMEs with regard to digitalization. While some SMEs are slow to find their way into digitalizing their innovation processes, others have started to use new digital technologies for efficiency reasons in the sense of "doing the same with less", while still others are aligning their entire business model with the requirements of digital environments based on the innovation principle of "doing something new". The paper concludes with implications for policy and research.

Book The Challenge of Digitalization in Retail The Retail Sector in Germany

Download or read book The Challenge of Digitalization in Retail The Retail Sector in Germany written by Yusuf Say and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2021 im Fachbereich BWL - Handel und Distribution, Hochschule Fulda, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In this work the author examines the retail sector in Germany to provide an overview of the reasons for change, potential challenges, and future predictions. During the research, it was found that very many reports exist around the topic and digitalization is a trending topic in retail. Furthermore, a study is covered that illustrates the shift in values from a consumer perspective. The goal is to better prepare for the needs of customers. In this study the question should be answered, with which strategic measures the retailers must deal in the future to remain competitive. The highly specialized and industrialized society is undergoing massive changes due to digitalization. The high level of digitalization and the technical capabilities of machines are opening new opportunities. The productivity development of the last centuries shows that the economy is currently in a particularly challenging phase. This development is particularly due to the widespread internet connectivity through e.g., smartphones, large storage capacities and technologies such as cloud or analytics that new applications and business opportunities can be implemented. In the retail sector, the question now arises on which facts the change in retail is built and on which the future of retail depends.
