Book Digital Flight Control System Validation

Download or read book Digital Flight Control System Validation written by Donald Eldredge and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of advanced technologies, new design concepts, and sophisticated high integrity integrated software-based digital flight control and avionics systems has confronted the FAA with the task of reviewing, revising, and updating its airworthiness assessment criteria in these areas. The FAA needs to establish and maintain systems engineering expertise as well as a capability to establish/evaluate validation/verification procedures for software-based digital systems. In order to accomplish this objective, the FAA must have expertise in fault-insertion techniques, emulation, automated reliability analyses, failure modes and effects analyses, fault-tree graphics, and other analytical tools. In addition, these skills are needed in order to interpret and evaluate data and information submitted, during the certification, process, in compliance with RTCA DO-178 and FAA Advisory Circular 25:1309-XX. This paper discusses techniques, methodologies, data, and information required for digital flight control and avionics systems validation. (Author).

Book Digital Flight Control Software Validation Study

Download or read book Digital Flight Control Software Validation Study written by Edward R. Rang and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems of designing, verifying, and validating software for digital flight control systems are reviewed to study how the new software engineering tools and techniques may be incorporated into the development process. This shows how automated methodologies will provide error-free flight control software at lower costs. The need for expensive, lengthy test programs is reduced by analytical methods. The quality of the software is demonstrated with higher confidence when designs are structured to facilitate the subsequent verification steps. The military standards relating to flight control systems are reviewed, and modifications to include provisions for software verification are recommended. (Author).

Book Validation of Digital Systems in Avionics and Flight Control Applications Handbook

Download or read book Validation of Digital Systems in Avionics and Flight Control Applications Handbook written by Ellis F. Hitt and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this handbook is to identify techniques, methodologies, tools, and procedures in a systems context that may be applicable to aspects of the validation and certification of digital systems at specific times in the development, and implementation of software based digital systems to be used in flight control/avionics applications. The application of these techniques in the development of discrete units and/or systems will result in completion of a product or system which is verfiable and can be validated in the context of the existing regulations/orders of the government regulatory agencies. The handbook uses a systems engineering approach to the implementation and testing of software and hardware during the design, development, and implementation phases. The handbook also recognizes and provides for the evaluation of the pilot's workload in the utilization of the new control/display technology, especially when crew recognition and intervention may be necessary to cope with/recover from the effects of faults or failures in the digital systems or the crew introduces errors into the system under periods of high workload due to some inadvertent procedure or entry of incorrect or erroneous data.

Book F 14 Flight Control Law Design Verification and Validation Using Computer Aided Engineering Tools

Download or read book F 14 Flight Control Law Design Verification and Validation Using Computer Aided Engineering Tools written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analog flight control computers (FCC's) in the F-14A/D airplane are currently being replaced with digital FCC's. This FCC upgrade will also include significant flight control law modifications which are designed to improve the aircraft's flying qualities throughout the operating envelope. Teamed with engineers from Grumman Aerospace, the NAWCAD was tasked as the lead activity in the total system development, integration, and testing of the new digital flight control system. These tasks included the development of improved control laws for both the up and away maneuvering flight envelope as well as the takeoff and landing configurations. These control laws engineering tools that were available on the main simulation computer system as well as desk top computer based systems. This paper specifically addresses the methods in use for the F-14 Digital Hight Control System (DFCS) program, however many of the methods used in this effort are currently being applied to the F-18E/F, V-22 and EA-6B programs.

Book Quadruplex Digital Flight Control System Assessment Revision

Download or read book Quadruplex Digital Flight Control System Assessment Revision written by D. B. Mulcare and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the development and validation of a double fail-operational digital flight control system architecture for critical pitch axis functions. Architectural tradeoffs are assessed, system simulator modifications are described, and demonstration testing results are critiqued. Assessment tools and their application are aso illustrated. Ultimately, the vital role of system simulation, tailored to digital mechanization attributes, is shown to be essential to vaildating the airworthiness of full-time critical functions such as augmented fly-by-wire systems for relaxed static stability airplanes. Keywords: Design verification; Digital flight controls; Fault tolerance; Redundancy management; Relaxed static stability; System reliability; System simulator; Validation methods. (jhd).
