Book Reaction Diffusion Problems in the Physics of Hot Plasmas

Download or read book Reaction Diffusion Problems in the Physics of Hot Plasmas written by H Wilhelmsson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of hot plasmas is of great importance for describing many phenomena in the universe and is fundamental for the prospect of future fusion energy production on Earth. Nontrivial results of nonlinear electromagnetic effects in plasmas include the self-organization and self-formation in the plasma of structures compact in time and space. Th

Book Diffusion Plasmas and Diffusion

Download or read book Diffusion Plasmas and Diffusion written by K. G. Emeleus and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanism of diffusion, and some boundary problems, have been investigated in both electropositive (ep) and electronegative (en) gases. A method is described for distinguishing between diffusion-dominated and recombination-dominated ep negative glows, recombination being either collisional-radiative or dissociative in practice. In an ep negative glow and Faraday dark space, the mode of diffusion changes from nearly ambipolar to nearly free as the wall sheath expands on proceeding away from the cathode, until the resulting throttling is relieved by formation of a positive column via an intermediate shock-like layer and complex double space-charge. Diffusion into a side-arm involves a similar ambipolar to free transition with unrelieved closure. A survey made of the literature on production of metastable atoms and molecules in discharge tubes has shown that whilst a wide range of discharge forms may be employed, conditions in few are known in sufficient detail for plasma data to be used with confidence in deriving forbidden radiation lifetimes and quenching collision cross-sections. Book Plasma The Fourth State of Matter

Download or read book Plasma The Fourth State of Matter written by D. Frank-Kamenetskii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book originated with the late Igor Vasil 'evich Kurchatov. He suggested to the author the need for a comprehen sive presentation of the fundamental ideas of plasma physics with out c'omplicated mathematics. This task has not been an easy one. In order to clarify the physical nature of plasma phenomena with out recourse to intricate mathematical expressions it is neces sary to think problems through very carefully. Thus, the book did not come into being by inspiration, but required a considerable ef fort. The aim of the book is to provide a beginning reader with an elementary knowledge of plasma physics. The book is primar ily written for engineers and technicians; however, we have also tried to make it intelligible to the reader whose knowledge ofphys ics is at the advanced-freshman level. To understand the book it is also necessary to have a working knowledge of electricity and magnetism of the kind available in present-:day programs in junior colleges. This book is not intended for light reading. It is designed for the reader for whom plasma physics will be a continuing in terest. We have confidence that such a reader will want to broad en his knowledge by consulting more specialized literature. Thus, we not only include simple expressions but also special important terms.

Book Classical Plasma Diffusion

Download or read book Classical Plasma Diffusion written by Harold Grad and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroscopic plasma diffusion as governed by the simplest form of Ohm's law for small mean free path is a very complex phenomenon which is by no means described by the classical "1/B2" formula. Diffusion across a magnetic field is, in general, a nonlocal, nonlinear, and transient combination of skin effect, field diffusion, plasma diffusion, and singular convection. It turns out that several orders of magnitude are at stake in balancing these competing effects. There is probably at least as large an unknown factor to be determined in the equivalent calculation still yo be done with a kinetic physical model. The basic question, when can transport coefficients be calculated as averages over flux surfaces, is examined.

Book Cross Scale Coupling and Energy Transfer in the Magnetosphere Ionosphere Thermosphere System

Download or read book Cross Scale Coupling and Energy Transfer in the Magnetosphere Ionosphere Thermosphere System written by Yukitoshi Nishimura and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-Scale Coupling and Energy Transfer in the Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere System provides a systematic understanding of Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere dynamics. Cross-scale coupling has become increasingly important in the Space Physics community. Although large-scale processes can specify the averaged state of the system reasonably well, they cannot accurately describe localized and rapidly varying structures in space in actual events. Such localized and variable structures can be as intense as the large-scale features. This book covers observations on quantifying coupling and energetics and simulation on evaluating impacts of cross-scale processes. It includes an in-depth review and summary of the current status of multi-scale coupling processes, fundamental physics, and concise illustrations and plots that are usable in tutorial presentations and classrooms. Organized by physical quantities in the system, Cross-Scale Coupling and Energy Transfer in the Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere System reviews recent advances in cross-scale coupling and energy transfer processes, making it an important resource for space physicists and researchers working on the magnetosphere, ionosphere, and thermosphere. Describes frontier science and major science around M-I-T coupling, allowing for foundational understanding of this emerging field in space physics Reviews recent and key findings in the cutting-edge of the science Discusses open questions and pathways for understanding how the field is evolving

Book Plasma Oscillations with Diffusion in Velocity Space

Download or read book Plasma Oscillations with Diffusion in Velocity Space written by Andrew Lenard and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model of plasma oscillations in the presence of small angle collisions is presented which admits of exact analytic solution. Certain features of the true collsion terms are preserved. Namely, the effect of collisions is represented by a diffusion in velocity space, which makes the distribution function tend to the Maxwell distribution, and which conserves the number of particles. In the limit of infrequent collisions the results of Landau are recovered.
