Book Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers

Download or read book Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers written by Trevor J. Cox and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-01-26 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Absorbers and diffusers are two of the main design tools for altering the acoustic conditions of rooms, semi-enclosed spaces and the outdoor environment. Their correct use is important for delivering high quality acoustics. Unique and authoritative, this book decribes how to effectively measure, model, design and apply diffusers and absorbers. It is a resource for new and experienced acousticians, seeking an understanding of the evolution, characteristics and application of modern diffusers. Absorption is a more established technology and so the book blends traditional designs with modern developments. The book covers practical and theoretical aspects of absorbers and diffusers and is well illustrated with examples of installations and case studies. This new edition brings Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers up-to-date with current research, practice and standards. New developments in measurement, materials, theory and practice since the first edition (published in 2004) are included. The sections on absorbers are extended to include more about noise control.

Book Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers

Download or read book Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers written by Trevor Cox and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This definitive guide covers the design and application of absorbers and diffusers in acoustics. Surface diffusion is a relatively young subject area, and diffuser design, application and characterisation are often not well understood. Although there is greater knowledge of absorption, it is also informed by new research. As two of the main design tools for altering the acoustic conditions of rooms, the correct use of absorbers and diffusers is important to the creation of quality acoustics. This text details the evolution and the current state of the art in diffuser and absorber research and application. It covers a range of practical and theoretical aspects, with extensive examples of installations and case studies to cater to practitioners working in the measurement, modelling and design of rooms, semi-enclosed spaces as well as in noise control. It is also invaluable for students and researchers wanting a grounding in acoustic treatment, as well as understanding the latest developments. All chapters have been revised and brought up to date in this new edition, with new applications, absorbers and diffusers featured. Sustainability, portable vocal booths, and fast time domain models for diffusers are just a few of the new sections. Improved techniques for measurement and prediction are included, as well as bringing old methods up-to-date with the latest refinements from standards and research. Most of the prediction methods in the book are now linked to open source implementations and downloadable MATLAB scripts, enabling readers to exploit the knowledge in this book more readily in design and research.

Book Preliminary Investigation of Supersonic Diffusers

Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of Supersonic Diffusers written by Arthur Kantrowitz and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: The deceleration of air from supersonic velocities in channels has been studied. It has become apparent that a normal shock in the diverging part of the diffuser is probably necessary for stable flow, and ways of minimizing the intensity of this shock have been developed. The effect of various geometrical parameters, especially contraction ratio in the entrance region, on the performance of supersonic diffusers has been investigated. By the use of these results, diffusers were designed which, starting without initial boundary layer, recovered 90 percent of the kinetic energy in supersonic air streams up to a Mach number of 1.85.

Book Investigation of Three Types of Supersonic Diffuser Over a Range of Mach Numbers from 1 75 to 2 74

Download or read book Investigation of Three Types of Supersonic Diffuser Over a Range of Mach Numbers from 1 75 to 2 74 written by L. Eugene Baughman and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in the Lewis 4- by 4-inch variable Mach number tunnel to determine off-design internal performance of three types of supersonic diffuser. Results were obtained at Mach numbers ranging from 1.75 to 2.74 with a normal-shock diffuser, two single-shock spike diffusers designed for Mach numbers 1.75 and 2.40, respectively, and tree convergent-divergent perforated diffusers designed for Mach numbers 1.75, 2.10, and 2.50, respectively. The variation of total-pressure recovery with relative mass flow was determined at various Mach numbers in the range. A thrust coefficient based on these measurements was utilized to facilitate interpretation of the results.

Book Fundamentals of Jet Propulsion with Applications

Download or read book Fundamentals of Jet Propulsion with Applications written by Ronald D. Flack and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-04-25 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introductory 2005 text on air-breathing jet propulsion focuses on the basic operating principles of jet engines and gas turbines. Previous coursework in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics is elucidated and applied to help the student understand and predict the characteristics of engine components and various types of engines and power gas turbines. Numerous examples help the reader appreciate the methods and differing, representative physical parameters. A capstone chapter integrates the text material into a portion of the book devoted to system matching and analysis so that engine performance can be predicted for both on- and off-design conditions. The book is designed for advanced undergraduate and first-year graduate students in aerospace and mechanical engineering. A basic understanding of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics is presumed. Although aircraft propulsion is the focus, the material can also be used to study ground- and marine-based gas turbines and turbomachinery and some advanced topics in compressors and turbines.

Book Friction Coefficients in a Vaneless Diffuser

Download or read book Friction Coefficients in a Vaneless Diffuser written by W. Byron Brown and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friction coefficients for three constant-area vaneless diffusers, used in conjunction with a centrifugal impeller, were determined from static- and total-pressure surveys taken at several radii and from the usual over-all measurements of temperature, pressure, and air flow. The average value of the friction coefficient through the entire diffuser was approximately 50 percent higher than that for fully developed turbulent flow in smooth pipes. Friction coefficients at the diffuser entrance were about three times the pipe values. In the middle of the diffuser, the friction coefficients agreed well with smooth-pipe values.
