Book Doing Democracy Differently

Download or read book Doing Democracy Differently written by Henrike Knappe and published by Budrich UniPress. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transnational civil society networks have become increasingly important democratizing actors in global politics. Still, the exploration of democracy in such networks remains conceptually and methodologically challenging. Practice theory provides a framework to study democracy as routinized performances even in contexts of fluid boundaries, temporal relations and a diffuse constituency. The author attempts to understand how new forms of democratic practice emerge in the interaction between political actors and their structural environments.

Book Thriving differently

Download or read book Thriving differently written by Elise Cordaro and published by Houtekiet. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elise Cordaro has autism and ADHD. She shares concrete tips and mind hacks with the reader, inspiring him or her not to see the diagnosis of autism or ADHD as an end point. Does a supermarket visit wear you out? Do you get stressed when your plans get disrupted? Do you feel like the world doesn’t quite suit you? Nothing to worry about, because everyone feels like that sometimes, right? Or is there more to it? Elise Cordaro only discovered at 27 that she has autism and ADHD. At first, psychologists waved away her request for help. After all, she looked perfectly normal, had two master’s degrees and had been living alone for a while. She turned out to be a master of camouflage. Over the years, she developed strategies to handle the everyday things others take for granted: studying, working, shopping, housework, small talk... The diagnoses came as a relief. Finally, she had an explanation for why everything takes so much effort, and she realized that she was handling it all quite well, actually. In this book, Elise speaks candidly about how she deals with her dual diagnosis. She encourages fellow neurodivergent tribe members with concrete tips, mind hacks and inspiration to function better with autism and ADHD.

Book Learning Differently

Download or read book Learning Differently written by Elizabeth Blake-Casano and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too many parents wait too long to advocate for their children who learn differently because they feel incompetent or ignorant. When in reality, children just need their parents to do the next right thing and walk it out one decision at a time. That can be scarey though when you feel alone and like everyone else’s child is “normal”. Learning Differently is meant to create a community of parents that will be brave enough to say, “My kid is different and it is my job to fight for them until he/she is old enough to fight for themselves.” We as parents hold the keys to whether of not these “differences” create victims or victors. Let’s create champions together!

Book Doing Academic Careers Differently

Download or read book Doing Academic Careers Differently written by Sarah Robinson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-28 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should academic careers always unfold in exactly the same way? Is there one best way of being an academic? This book says no. Assumptions about who academics are and what they should do are becoming increasingly narrow and focused on achieving so-called ‘excellence’ in teaching and research above anything else. This book problematises this and explores the scope for doing academic careers differently. Authors paint individual or group portraits of their academic careers, working with metaphors which challenge the dominant discourses of how academic careers should be led. From rejecting the pressure to focus on ‘one big thing’, to prioritising nurture and care, transcending disciplinary boundaries, reshaping own daily practice, connecting with communities, and being academics outside academia, the chapters in this book offer those considering, starting, or developing an academic career a treasure trove of many alternative possibilities. Presented as a portrait gallery through which readers are encouraged to meander at will, this compilation of insights into alternative academic lives will help to inspire and encourage current academics to re-think and take ownership of their careers in their own terms, according to their own strengths, weaknesses, and circumstances.

Book Doing Qualitative Research Differently

Download or read book Doing Qualitative Research Differently written by Wendy Hollway and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hollway and Jefferson have updated their ground-breaking book for students and researchers looking to do qualitative research differently. The new edition critically reviews many of the assumptions, claims and methods of qualitative research and also acts as a `how to′ guide to the method the authors call the Free Association Narrative Interview. In the new edition, the authors situate their arguments firmly within a tradition of psychosocial research and show how their method has developed over the last decade. The book follows this approach through the phases of empirical research practice. At each stage they use examples from their own research and end with an extended case study which demonstrates the value of their method in producing a psychosocial research subject; that is, one with socially-imbued depth, complexity and biographical uniqueness.

Book Hearing Vocation Differently

Download or read book Hearing Vocation Differently written by David S. Cunningham and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2019-01-04 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many colleges and universities have begun using the language of vocation and calling to help undergraduates think about the future direction of their lives. This language is used in both secular and religious contexts, but it has deep roots in the Christian theological tradition. Given the increasingly multi-faith context of undergraduate life, many have asked whether this terminology can truly serve as a new vocabulary for higher education. If vocation is to find a foothold in the contemporary context, it will need to be re-examined, re-thought, and re-written; in short, higher education will need to undertake the project of hearing vocation differently. In this third volume on vocation from editor David S. Cunningham, the thirteen contributing scholars identify with a wide variety of religious traditions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism. Some contributors identify with more than one of these; others would claim none of them. The authors met on multiple occasions to read common texts, to discuss agreements and differences, and to respond to one another's writing; some of these responses are included at the end of each chapter. Both individually and collectively, these contributors expand the range of vocational reflection and discernment well beyond its traditional Christian origins. The authors observe that all undergraduate students--regardless of their academic field, religious background, or demographic identity-need to make space for reflection, to overcome obstacles to discernment, and to consider the significance of their own narratives, beliefs, and practices. This, in turn, will require college campuses to re-imagine their curricular and co-curricular programming in order to support their students's reflection on issues of meaning, purpose, and identity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifelong learning is a key feature of society today, and is apparently embraced by a wide range of educators and trainers, as well as by governments and employers. In this wide-ranging book, Sue Jackson shows that universities have been slow to embrace a lifelong learning agenda, and argues that the lifelong learning experiences of women – and especially of working-class students – are seldom welcomed in the academy. In its unique considerations of the experiences of women students and academics, this book expounds an innovative and critical analysis of women in higher education. It will give a clear indication of alternative strategies for learners, teachers and policy makers. This book will be of key interest to anyone working in the fields of lifelong learning or continuing education who is interested in making learning accessible and meaningful for disadvantaged groups. It will also appeal to students of education, women's studies, gender studies and sociology; and to those interested in issues of gender, social class, feminist theory and feminist research.

Book Writing Academic Texts Differently

Download or read book Writing Academic Texts Differently written by Nina Lykke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume combines cutting-edge research on feminist and intersectional writing methodologies with explorations of links between academic and creative writing practices. Contributors discuss what it means for academic writing processes to explore intersectional in-between spaces between monolithic identity markers and power differentials such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and nationality. How does such a frame change academic writing? How does it make it pertinent to explore new synergies between academic and creative writing? In answer to these questions, the book offers theories, methodologies, political and ethical considerations, as well as reflections on writing strategies. Suggestions for writing exercises, developed against the background of the contributors' individual and joint teaching practices, will inspire readers to engage in alternative writing practices themselves.
