Book Medical Education in Uncertain Times Threats Challenges and Opportunities of COVID 19

Download or read book Medical Education in Uncertain Times Threats Challenges and Opportunities of COVID 19 written by Changiz Mohiyeddini and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World Health Organization declared “coronavirus disease 2019” (COVID-19) a pandemic on March 12, 2020. As of July 20, 2020, Covid-19 has infected more than 14.5 million people globally, with over 600 thousand human lives lost. These figures are rising exponentially, and the long-term impact of this pandemic is still unknown. Therefore, the WHO has issued guidelines for containing, mitigating, and limiting the negative impacts of this pandemic. Obviously, both Covid-19 and the extraordinary measures to contain it are having an enormous impact on medical education. Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced medical education towards more “online-education” approaches, with implications for medical educators and learners.

Book Stress Among Clinical Psychology Doctoral Students

Download or read book Stress Among Clinical Psychology Doctoral Students written by Narjis Fatima Hyder and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-01-27 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pressures of attaining a doctoral education among university students are well known. This dissertation examines the experience and reality of doctoral psychology students' perceived stress levels among specific years of a clinical psychology five-year doctoral program at one university. The purpose of this quantitative study is to investigate any differences of student's perceived stress and sample characteristics experienced by year in the clinical doctoral psychology program. The amount of perceived stress a psychology doctoral student experiences may depend on differing variables. Psychosocial factors such as education, work, family, and relationships can detract from or contribute to the presence of either positive or negative stress during these years. Factors that may cause distress may also cause eustress. Doctoral students' response to stressors may impact physiological, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. A critical issue concerning stress among doctoral students is its effect on learning and whether students will complete their doctoral program. The goal of this study is to increase knowledge of doctoral students' quality of life during the doctoral process and determine the impact of stress on academic achievement. The findings of this study show that there is no relationship between a set of demographic predictor variables (gender, age, marital/parental status, and year in doctoral program) and the level of stress due to academic concerns, family/financial concerns, or environmental concerns for doctoral students, however, a significant relationship was found between these same predictor variables and level of stress as measured by the Demand and Coping Scale. This study's results may contribute to greater understanding and support from program faculty, and help doctoral students set realistic priorities for balancing study, work and family, and reduce doctoral program attrition rates.

Download or read book A Comparison of Perceived Stress Among Undergraduate Nursing Education and Engineering Majors written by Taylor Rose and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physiological and psychological effects of stress can be detrimental to the health and well-being of a college student. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived stress levels of nursing students and compare those to the perceived stress levels of engineering and education students. This quantitative study consisted of approximately 76 students between the ages of 18-39 attending Carroll College and enrolled in 300 level courses in the nursing, education, and engineering programs (39 nursing, 21 education, and 16 engineering students). The study consisted of 16 male and 60 female participants of different races. The Perceived Stress Scale-10 was utilized to measure the students’ perceived stress levels. Results from the study were shown to be statistically significant with a p-value less than .05, with nursing students demonstrating higher perceived stress levels than education and engineering students. Book A COMPARISON OF COPING AND PERCEIVED STRESS AMONG STUDENTS BY FIRST GENERATION AND CONTINUING GENERATION STATUS RACE ETHNICITY AND GENDER

Download or read book A COMPARISON OF COPING AND PERCEIVED STRESS AMONG STUDENTS BY FIRST GENERATION AND CONTINUING GENERATION STATUS RACE ETHNICITY AND GENDER written by Annette Morgan and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the number of first generation and racial/ethnic minority students enrolled in higher education has increased over the past several decades, the level of stress students are reporting, compared to students in previous years has increased as well. Likewise, counseling center directors have seen an increase in the number of students with mental health issues, both as a percentage of the student population and in the severity of their illnesses. Therefore this study assessed how different student populations cope with stress. Also assessed was how diverse student populations perceive their general level of stress and if perception of stress influenced how they coped with stress. This quantitative study utilized the COPE to examine coping strategies, as well as the Perceived Stress Scale-10 to measure students' perception of stress. Research participants included 1,085 undergraduate psychology students from two southeastern universities. The sample was comprised of 38% (n=415) first generation students and 61% (n=665) continuing generation students. Participants were from six racial/ethnic groups; Black/African American, White, Hispanic of any race, American Indian/Native Alaskan, Asian, and students who self identified as being of two or more races. Statistical tests were conducted and results indicated there were more similarities between first generation and continuing generation students of different racial/ethnic groups, than there were differences in both coping and perceived stress. Results also indicated that both coping and perceived stress were not contingent on generation status and that few coping strategies were contingent on race/ethnicity and institution. However, the factor that was found to have the most significant relationship with both coping and perceived stress was gender. Possible explanations for differences as well as similarities in coping and perception of stress are discussed. This report concludes with recommendations for future research as well as implications for both college administrators and counseling center directors.

Download or read book Psychosocial Health and Well being in High Level Athletes written by Nick Galli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The psychological health of competitive athletes is of paramount importance to performance, retention, and well-being in sport, and national governing bodies are increasingly concerned with its promotion. Psychosocial Health and Well-being in High-Level Athletes offers students, researchers, and practicing sport psychologists an accessible and rigorous grounding in the manifestations of psychosocial health in athletes, the threats athletes face to their psychosocial health, and the interventions which can be designed to enhance it. Seeking to guide future research and expand professional understanding of psychosocial issues in sport, the book is based on a model of cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual health. It clearly defines these dimensions in a sporting context before discussing pertinent threats—such as career transitions, injuries and abuse—and interventions, including adversarial growth, life-skill interventions, prevention and organization policy, and mindfulness-based interventions. Providing an innovative and integrated perspective on psychosocial health and well-being in competitive sport, this book is essential reading for upper-level students taking any clincial sport psychology modules, and for sport psychologists, coaches, and administrators working with competitive athletes.
