Download or read book Diet Growth and Bioenergetics of Northern Pike Esox Lucius Linnaeus 1758 in Box Canyon Reservoir Pend Oreille River Washington written by Shane Joseph Harvey and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The objectives of this study were to describe the growth of northern pike, describe the food habits of northern pike and using bioenergetics modeling assess the mass and total numbers of each species of forage fish the northern pike population consumed in Box Canyon Reservoir,Pend Orielle River, Washington. Northern pike (n=328) were collected by boat electrofishing, fyke netting, angling and gillnetting in 2009 and 2010. All northern pike were sacrificed to obtain stomach contents. Stomach contents were examined in the laboratory and identified to the appropriate level; amphibians and mammals to species, insect prey (aquatic/terrestrial) to family and prey fish to species. Using standard regression equations from Hansel et al. (1988) and those developed for the EWU bone reference collection the length of ingested prey items at time of ingestion were estimated. A standard set of regression equations were then used to convert the estimated length of forage fish to estimate their weight at time of ingestion"--Document.

Book Biology of the Northern Pike in Oahe Reservoir 1959 Through 1965

Download or read book Biology of the Northern Pike in Oahe Reservoir 1959 Through 1965 written by Thomas J. Hassler and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variations in length, weight, and maturity of northern pike in Oahe Reservoir were associated with sex and year class. Females were larger and more numerous than males. Catches were dominated by the 1959 and 1962 year classes; the 1964 year class was missing. Annulus formation began in April and was completed by July. SInce impoundment, large year classes have been associated with a rise in water level above previous high levels in spring and continuation of the higher level though early summer.

Book The Ecology Habits and Growth of the Pike Esox Lucius

Download or read book The Ecology Habits and Growth of the Pike Esox Lucius written by George Charles Embody and published by Theclassics.Us. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1910 edition. Excerpt: ... Introduction The present paper is an attempt to bring together the essentials of the natural history of the pike so far as they are known. The materials have been drawn from two sources: first, from Literature, much of which has been contributed by Q. Brown Qoode, Francis Day, H. G. Seeley and Berthold Benecke; and second, from personal observation and study. Many phases of the life-history of the pike still remain incomplete, the large number of published accounts notwithstanding. This is especially true with regard to the breeding habits, and the development, growth and food of the young. Professor Benecke of Knigsberg has given us the best single and original account of the habits of the pike while Day, Seeley and Ooode assembled all of the principal known facts at the dates of their respective publications. No American, to my knowledge, has investigated the pike in native waters further than to record its distribution and to give scattered notes bearing upon its food and voraciousness. Along the lines of fish culture more has been done (1) with the two near relatives of the pike, the mascalonge (2) and the reticulated pickerel, both of which have been 1. Various Reports of the Forest, Pish and dame Commission, New York, also Brice, '97. 2. Report of the Department of Fisheries Pennsylvania 1906, '07 and '08. propagated at various hatcheries, the former in New . York and the latter in Pennsylvania. Personal observations cover a period of a year and a half and are restricted to the pike inhabiting the south end of Cayuga Lake and adjacent marshes. The observations of others have frequently been compared with my own in order to strengthen certain conclusions and also, in cases of disagreement, to show the extent of divergence...

This book was released on 1969 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catch-effort data derived from gill net samples were used to estimate relative abundance, age composition, sex ratio, growth rate, survival rate, and relative year-class strength of northern pike, walleye, and sauger populations in Lake Sharpe, Missouri, S.D., during the first three years of impoundment (1964-1966.). Catches were generally highest in Oahe Dam tailwaters. Females were more numerous and larger at most ages than males.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to bridge the order scales among pike researchers, populations, communities, management, and fisheries. It emphasizes the progress of pike research during the last two decades, during which the order-bridging approach emerged. This framework underpins the text and the message, to convey its importance to pike research and to fish research in general. In addition, a considerable part of the book is devoted to management implications and highlights aspects of human dimensions in recreational fisheries.
