Download or read book Tellurite Glasses Handbook written by Raouf A.H. El-Mallawany and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-12-13 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-crystalline solid tellurite glasses continue to intrigue both academic and industry researchers not only because of their many technical applications, but also because of a fundamental interest in understanding their microscopic mechanisms. Tellurite Glasses Handbook: Physical Properties and Data is the first and only comprehensive source of physical constants and properties of these unique, non-crystalline solids. The author has collected rigid data from experiments conducted over the last 50 years and presents here their elastic, anelastic, optical, electrical, and thermal properties. He also provides details of the experimental techniques, explores applications, and suggests directions of future research. The interference and independence of physical processes occurring simultaneously are key problems in material science. With the Tellurite Glasses Handbook, researchers can begin to understand these physical processes, overcome current technological problems, and open up a new area of glass science: the Physics of Non-Crystalline Solids

Download or read book Design and Development of Nanostructured Thin Films written by Antonella Macagnano and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-05-13 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to their unique size-dependent physicochemical properties, nanostructured thin films are used in a wide range of applications from smart coating and drug delivery to electrocatalysis and highly-sensitive sensors. Depending on the targeted application and the deposition technique, these materials have been designed and developed by tuning their atomic-molecular 2D- and/or 3D-aggregation, thickness, crystallinity, and porosity, having effects on their optical, mechanical, catalytic, and conductive properties. Several open questions remain about the impact of nanomaterial production and use on environment and health. Many efforts are currently being made not only to prevent nanotechnologies and nanomaterials from contributing to environmental pollution but also to design nanomaterials to support, control, and protect the environment. This Special Issue aims to cover the recent advances in designing nanostructured films focusing on environmental issues related to their fabrication processes (e.g., low power and low cost technologies, the use of environmentally friendly solvents), their precursors (e.g., waste-recycled, bio-based, biodegradable, and natural materials), their applications (e.g., controlled release of chemicals, mimicking of natural processes, and clean energy conversion and storage), and their use in monitoring environment pollution (e.g., sensors optically- or electrically-sensitive to pollutants)

Download or read book Sol Gel Materials written by John D. Wright and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sol-Gel processing methods, first used historically for decorative and constructional materials, were extensively developed in the last century for applications such as glasses, ceramics, catalysts, coatings, composites and fibres. Today they are reaching their full potential, enabling the preparation of new generations of advanced materials not easily accessible by other methods yet using mild, low-energy conditions. The topic is therefore increasingly included in advanced undergraduate, MSc and PhD programmes in the areas of chemistry, physics and materials science. This concise introductory text, written at the advanced undergraduate/first-year postgraduate level, is also suitable as an introduction to the development, mechanisms, chemistry, characterisation methods and applications of the technique. It provides readers with an extensive yet concise grounding in the theory of each area of the subject and details the real and potential applications and the future prospects of sol-gel chemistry.
Download or read book Introduction to Structural Chemistry written by Stepan S. Batsanov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-29 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise description of models and quantitative parameters in structural chemistry and their interrelations, with 280 tables and >3000 references giving the most up-to-date experimental data on energy characteristics of atoms, molecules and crystals (ionisation potentials, electron affinities, bond energies, heats of phase transitions, band and lattice energies), optical properties (refractive index, polarisability), spectroscopic characteristics and geometrical parameters (bond distances and angles, coordination numbers) of substances in gaseous, liquid and solid states, in glasses and melts, for various thermodynamic conditions. Systems of metallic, covalent, ionic and van der Waals radii, effective atomic charges and other empirical and semi-empirical models are critically revised. Special attention is given to new and growing areas: structural studies of solids under high pressures and van der Waals molecules in gases. The book is addressed to researchers, academics, postgraduates and advanced-course students in crystallography, materials science, physical chemistry of solids.
Download or read book Handbook of Inorganic Electrochromic Materials written by C.G. Granqvist and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-03-16 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochromic materials are able to change their optical properties in a persistent and reversible way under the action of a voltage pulse. This book explores electrochromism among the metal oxides, with detailed discussions of materials preparation (primarily by thin film technology), materials characterization by (electro)chemical and physical techniques, optical properties, electrochromic device design, and device performance. The vast quantity of information presented is structured in a systematic manner and the optical data is interpreted within a novel conceptual framework. The publication will serve as a comprehensive foundation and reference work for future studies within the rapidly expanding field of electrochromic materials and devices. These devices are of particular interest for information displays, variable-transmittance (smart) windows, variable-reflectance mirrors and variable-emittance surfaces.
