Book Handbook of Contemporary European Social Theory

Download or read book Handbook of Contemporary European Social Theory written by Gerard Delanty and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-09-27 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative publication maps out the broad and interdisciplinary field of contemporary European social theory. It covers sociological theory, the wider theoretical traditions in the social sciences including cultural and political theory, anthropological theory, social philosophy and social thought in the broadest sense of the term. This volume surveys the classical heritage, the major national traditions and the fate of social theory in a post-national and post-disciplinary era. It also identifies what is distinctive about European social theory in terms of themes and traditions. It is divided into five parts: disciplinary traditions, national traditions, major schools, key themes and the reception of European social theory in American and Asia. Thirty-five contributors from nineteen countries across Europe, Russia, the Americas and Asian Pacific have been commissioned to utilize the most up-to-date research available to provide a critical, international analysis of their area of expertise. Overall, this is an indispensable book for students, teachers and researchers in sociology, cultural studies, politics, philosophy and human geography and will set the tone for future research in the social sciences.

Book Suggestion and Suggestibility

Download or read book Suggestion and Suggestibility written by Vladimir A. Gheorghiu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the First International Sym posium on Suggestion and Suggestibility, held at the University of Giessen in the Federal Republic of Germany, July 7-111987, upon the initiative of and organized by Dr. V. A. Gheorghiu and Dr. P. Netter. I regret that for personal reasons I was unable to accept his kind invita tion to attend, for Dr. Gheorghiu and I are old friends. I am pleased, however, to have this opportunity to call attention to the significance of this volume. Most of the chapters were presented in approximately their present form at the symposium, though some have been extensi vely revised for publication. It was a wise choice to divide the papers into four major sections. - I. Theoretical and Historical Perspectives, II. Assessment and Indivi dual Differences of Suggestibility, III. Psychophysiological Aspects of Suggestibility, and IV. Social and Cognitive Aspects of Suggestive Processes - each with a summarizing commentary. In view of the variety and difficulty of the individual papers, it is a help to have the integration provided by these commentaries - on Part I by Sheehan (Chap. 7), on Part II by Lundy (Chap. 13), on Part III by Edmonston (Chap. 19), and on Part IV by Fiedler (Chap. 30).

Book Schleiermachers Dialektik

Download or read book Schleiermachers Dialektik written by Christine Helmer and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2003 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: Schleiermacher's Dialectic offers a model for today that combines the pluralistic search for knowledge with knowledge as a regulative idea. Based on these two elements, an innovative concept of knowledge is developed, informed by the reciprocal relation between epistemological and ontological factors. In this volume, Schleiermacher's model for the 'love of knowledge' sets the stage for a dialogue between philosophy and theology.

Book Karl Leonhard Reinhold s Transcendental Psychology

Download or read book Karl Leonhard Reinhold s Transcendental Psychology written by Faustino Fabbianelli and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-05-24 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reinhold’s Elementary Philosophy is the first system of transcendental philosophy after Kant. The scholarship of the last years has understood it in different ways: as a model of Grundsatzphilosophie, as a defense of the concept of freedom, as a transformation of philosophy into history of philosophy. The present investigation intends to underline another ‘golden thread’ that runs through the writings of Reinhold from 1784 to 1794: that which sees in the Elementary Philosophy a system of transcendental psychology.

Book The Very Idea of Organization

Download or read book The Very Idea of Organization written by Christian Krijnen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Very Idea of Organization presents a philosophical account of the phenomenon of organization. It takes as its starting point a debate in organization studies about the foundations of organizational research. This debate, however, is running into difficulties regarding the basic concept of the reality that organization studies deal with, that is regarding the ontology of organization. A convincing organizational ontology is not in sight. Therefore, Krijnen introduces a new meta-perspective, offering a more comprehensive and more fundamental social ontology in general as well as an organizational ontology in particular. Exploring the Kantian and Hegelian tradition of philosophy, he convincingly shows that a rejuvenated type of German idealism contains intriguing possibilities for developing a present-day social and organizational philosophy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1995.

Book Sustainable Living and Business

Download or read book Sustainable Living and Business written by Hans-Werner Franz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-04 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of the book derives from the theme of the 20th Conference on Applied Social Sciences of the Professional Association of German Sociologists, held in Munich in May 2019. The question of what concrete contributions social innovations can make to the transition to forms of sustainable coexistence and economic activity is as much the focus of this book as the question of what contribution the social sciences can make. Thus, on the one hand, it is about concrete social innovations that help us to achieve the goal of living and doing business sustainably, but on the other hand, it is also about the way in which the social sciences - not least through appropriate theoretical and methodological training - can be made socially responsible for the success of such socially innovative processes. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.

Book The Positive and the Normative in Economic Thought

Download or read book The Positive and the Normative in Economic Thought written by Sina Badiei and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-06-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book responds to the need for greater clarity regarding the relationship between descriptive, evaluative and prescriptive approaches within positive and normative economics. It also analyses the entanglement between evaluative and prescriptive perspectives within several theoretical frameworks in normative economics such as social choice theory, the capability approach, behavioural welfare economics and various theories of justice. It provides a forum for discussion between various schools of economic thought and several theoretical frameworks on the relationship between the study of facts, norms and values, with particular emphasis on classical political economy, the Marxian school of economics, the Frankfurt School, the Austrian school, the Chicago school, rational choice theory, expected utility theory, behavioural economics, experimental economics, development economics, welfare economics, public economics, constitutional political economy, the capability approach and politico-economic theories of justice. Given the scope of questions treated in this book, it will be of interest to economists, historians of economic thought, political philosophers and philosophers of science, especially those interested in the philosophy and epistemology of economics.
