Book New Techniques for Thoracic Outlet Syndromes

Download or read book New Techniques for Thoracic Outlet Syndromes written by J. Ernesto Molina and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-13 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Techniques for Thoracic Outlet Syndromes presents in a comprehensive format an up-to-date, state of the art reference that physicians can use in consultation to properly treat patients using the resources that modern medicine offers. This book offers the newer surgical approaches that have been developed during the past 30 years. Some of these techniques are modification of operations that were proposed previously but were not fully affective and left many patients suffering with permanent disability. This textbook is a compendium of the proper management of these patients that cannot be found in isolated reports of literature. The neurogenic-arterial thoracic outlet syndrome section covers how to diagnosis the illness using the proper tests, therefore eliminating the use of expensive, uncomfortable and inconvenient tests. The text is organized in three basic sections that cover all the aspects of the thoracic outlet syndromes. The first section addresses the neurogenic-arterial type, with the pertinent subsections: symptoms, diagnosis. A list of the useful tests is provided to make a correct diagnosis of this syndrome. This is followed by the sections on treatment, using the surgical approaches with historical aspects and evolution of the operations proposed. The second section involves the venous thoracic outlet syndrome divided into the corresponding subsections comprising: symptoms and physical findings, etiology, diagnosis. This section also includes a list of the usual tests to make the proper diagnosis. The last section of this text is dedicated to the presence of cervical ribs and their classification of the different types that occur, and also the proper surgical treatment when fusion of the upper ribs is present. New Techniques for Thoracic Outlet Syndromes offers the current, acceptable and most effective methods to handle thoracic outlet syndromes. It will be of great value to thoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists as well as fellows and residents in training for cardiothoracic and vascular surgery.

Book Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery

Download or read book Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery written by Salvatore Docimo Jr. and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the field of general surgery continues to expand, the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways are becoming more complex. The diagnostic modalities available to the clinician can be both very helpful but also overwhelming considering the findings can often determine the scope of treatment for a patient. This text will take the major pathologies of the systems commonly studied in general surgery and present them in a unique format based upon algorithms. The algorithms will begin with the clinical presentation of the patient, work its way through the various diagnostic modalities available to the surgeon, and finally allow the physician to make a decision regarding treatment options based upon various patterns in the algorithms. This text will become a very useful resources for surgeons as it allows complex clinical pathways to be conveniently organized in logical algorithms. It will become a concise yet comprehensive manual to assist in clinical decision making. All algorithms will be reviewed by experts in their field and include the most up-to-date clinical and evidence-based information. Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery provides a useful resource for surgeons in clinical practice as well as surgical residents, and surgical attendings who are preparing for board examinations. Book Thoracic Outlet Syndrome for Patients and Non Physicians

Download or read book Thoracic Outlet Syndrome for Patients and Non Physicians written by Richard Sanders and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-08-10 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written in layman's terms to describe all aspects of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome which includes disorders of the nerves, veins, and arteries of the upper extremities. Discussed are the causes of different forms of TOS, their symptoms, what doctors look for on physical examination, and the various tests used to make and confirm the diagnosis. Also described are the choices available to treat TOS including surgical and non-surgical options, their limitations, and their results. In addition, this book discusses a condition closely related to TOS called Pectoralis Minor Syndrome (PMS). PMS has similar symptoms to TOS and is caused by pressure against the nerves, artery, and vein found under the pectoralis minor muscle, which lies just below the collarbone. It is important to know how to recognize both of these conditions as treatment of PMS is much simpler than treating TOS. For example, in nerve type TOS and PMS both conditions will have symptoms of numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness in the hand and arm. TOS will usually also have neck pain and headaches while PMS will present with pain or tenderness in the chest, below the collarbone, and in the armpit. When all of these symptoms are present, pain in the neck, chest, land armpit, plus headaches, both TOS and PMS may exist together. Treatment initially is physical therapy for both conditions. If surgery is indicated, PMS alone is treated with a simple, minimal risk, 20 minute out-patient procedure which usually requires only a few days for recovery. In contrast, surgical treatment for TOS is an operation usually requiring 2-3 days of hospitalization and a few weeks to recover.

Book The Pediatric Upper Extremity

Download or read book The Pediatric Upper Extremity written by Joshua M. Abzug and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sub-specialization within pediatric orthopedics is growing, in part due to the development of free-standing children's hospitals and the desire by patients and their parents to have "experts" care for them. We are at the forefront of a trend in physicians classifying themselves as pediatric upper extremity surgeons. Numerous pediatric hospitals now have or are recruiting physicians to focus their practice in this area. Historically, these issues were treated by general orthopedic surgeons, adult hand surgeons, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, or plastic surgeons. However, none of these professionals treat the entirety of pediatric upper extremity pathology, and no single reference has focused on the treatment of the pediatric upper extremity as a whole. For example, fractures have typically been written about in pediatric textbooks, while tendon and nerve injuries are covered in adult hand textbooks. This textbook is a comprehensive, illustrated reference that discusses all aspects of the pediatric upper extremity, from embryology and functional development to nerve injuries, trauma, tumors, burns, sports injuries and more.

Book Minimally Invasive Surgery for Chronic Pain Management

Download or read book Minimally Invasive Surgery for Chronic Pain Management written by Giorgio Pietramaggiori and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-05 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the essential steps involved in diagnosing and treating pain due to peripheral nerve injury and compression. In the first chapter, the relevant anatomy and diagnostic tools to identify peripheral-nerve-related issues are described. The main part of the book, however, deals with the surgical techniques to address specific types of peripheral nerve pain, e.g. neuroma, thoracic outlet or migraine. A step-by-step, practical approach is provided, including important aspects to consider both pre- and post-op. The procedures presented are minimally-invasive and maximally effective. Each chapter features detailed surgical illustrations and anatomical images. Chronic pain control is a growing need and minimally invasive yet effective surgical techniques, combining the competences of neurosurgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, general surgery, pain management and neurology are in high demand. The increasing demand on the part of patients suffering from neuropathic pain is to date not matched by adequate practical training in peripheral nerve surgery to control pain. The authors are experts in this discipline “from head to toe” and present a valuable guide that provides medical students and experienced clinicians alike with useful information for their daily practice.
