Book Karma Dharma and Moksha

Download or read book Karma Dharma and Moksha written by Jagat Pal and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a critical conceptual analysis of the concepts of karma, dharma and moksha which constitute the key features of religious, cultural, ethical and philosophical thoughts of the Hindus, the Jains and the Bauddha s. The book discusses various philosophical issues pertaining to these concepts in an analytical manner without showing any disrespect to any religious and philosophical systems of the Hindus, the Jains and the Bauddha s. It has been argued on the logical ground that the doctrine of karma suffers from its own inherent contradictions. But it does not rule out the possibility of human freedom and the attainment of moksha. The concept of karma does not preserve a single meaning in the Indian religious, cultural and ethical heritage. Its meaning has been changing at different stages. It has been also argued through the analysis of the concept of niskama karma that doing of any dharma does not make it either moral or immoral. It becomes moral only when dharma itself is moral. The concept of niskama karma is a teleological concept. It is not a deontological concept like the Kantian concept of duty as it is generally understood by many Indian scholars. We all face moral dilemma in our day-to-day s life. This book-provides a solution to this problem. The author also argues on the rational ground that we can solve religious conflicts by secularizing our religion in an ethical way without discarding it or showing any disrespect to any other religion and can live a better and happier life for which we all aspire. Its simple analytical style makes it useful not only for students and teachers of philosophy but also for general readers who have keen interest in the Indian religious and cultural -traditions. Most of the topics of this book are included in the under-graduate and post graduate syllabi of many Indian Universities.

Download or read book Material Dharma written by Ranjan Ganguli and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-04-19 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author integrates science, economics, politics and religion to formulate a materialist Hindu philosophy, the purpose of which is to achieve a superpower India, the core Hindu civilization, by creating superpower people, and reforming and homogenizing Hindu society. In simple terms his theory is that the left-leaning secular liberal elite ruling India for the past fifty years has forsaken God, and in return, God has forsaken India. A return to God and unleashing powerful creative, destructive and homogenizing forces originating from Darwinian capitalism is the way for India and Indians to regain their lost glory. The book discusses the three basic forms of power, i.e. wealth, violence and knowledge and how to gain them for self and nation. The author blends concepts from emerging computing technology such as fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms, optimization and neural networks with social and biological sciences and shows how the advise rendered in the battlefield setting of the Bhagavad-Gita is very relevant in our emerging Darwinian and materialistic civilization.

Download or read book The Dharma Manifesto written by Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya and published by Arktos. This book was released on 2013-11-02 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dharma Manifesto is a call to action for those who seek a form of social and political action that has a firm spiritual foundation, but which also challenges the prevailing social and religious order in the postmodern West. It does not merely offer criticism - it is also a blueprint for how a national community founded upon Dharmic principles could operate in the twenty-first century. Its author defines the term "Dharma," which in the ancient Sanskrit language means "Natural Law," in an unconventional way. For those who embrace Dharma Nationalism, Dharma is predicated upon the pressing need for the organic and munificent resacralization of culture and of all human endeavor, as well as the manifestation of the highest potentials attainable by every individual in society in accordance with transcendental principles. Thus, Dharma does not only refer to traditions with which it is usually associated such as Hinduism and Buddhism, but also to the Taoist, Confucian, Zoroastrian, Native American, and European pagan traditions, all of which, this book holds, share a common, basic worldview. This book is therefore a resource for those who want to carry out both an inward, contemplative revolution within themselves as well an outer, social revolution in the world around them, in harmony with one another. It is intended to serve as a systematic program signaling the beginning of a what will hopefully be a new era in humanity's eternal yearning for meaningful freedom and happiness.

Book excerpt: Don't you think it is about time to take the reigns of your own life? In the Western Christian culture the concept of karma is frequently distorted, as if it were an inflexible destiny, something undoubtedly negative that must be paid with suffering. From the most ancient Hindu perspective, karma is a flexible potential that is generated and changes every moment by our actions, words, thoughts and intentions. In general, readers are only more or less familiar with karma and rarely know the principal of dharma. This book teaches revolutionary concepts about these two natural laws, karma and dharma, and provides the tools to act on them in order to change our lives as best suits us. Family, finances, health, intimate relationships, professional career, all of this you can manage if you know the foundations of the universal laws of cause and effect. And, it is not only possible to drive the designs of your own future, but also at work, whether it is your own business or someone else's, and even the designs of the State, whether you are a politician or a voter. You have the power to change your destiny.

Book Rethinking Karma

Download or read book Rethinking Karma written by Buddhadasa Bhikkhu and published by Parbpim Printing House. This book was released on 2020-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a Buddhist response to political oppression and economic exploitation? Does Buddhism encourage passivity and victimization? Can violent perpetrators be brought to justice without anger and retributive punishment? What does Buddhism say -- or imply -- about collective karma and social justice? Rethinking Karma addresses these questions, and many more, through the lens of the Buddhist teachings on karma. Acknowledging that a skewed understanding of karma serves to perpetuate structural and cultural violence, specifically in the Buddhist societies of South and Southeast Asia, the book critically reexamines the teachings on karma as well as important related teachings on equanimity (upekkha), generosity (dana), and "merit" (punna). The eleven authors featured in this volume are thinker-activists who have been deeply involved in issues of social justice at a grassroots level and speak from their own experience in trying to solve them. For them, these issues are seminal ones requiring deeper contemplation and greater sharing, not only within the Buddhist community at large but among all those who seek to bridge the gaps between our idealization of human harmony, our tendencies toward violent confrontation, and the need for greater social justice.

Book Compassion In The 4 Dharmic Traditions

Download or read book Compassion In The 4 Dharmic Traditions written by Ed. Ved P. Nanda and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dharmic traditions – Hinduism; Buddhism; Jainism; and Sikhism – share much in common; not with standing a number of variations among them. In all these traditions the scriptures; writings; and practices hold compassion as an integral part and a supreme virtue. This collection of essays by leading scholars from different disciplines aptly captures the essence of the religious and spiritual aspects of these traditions as they relate to compassion. Most of the authors are practitioner-scholars and are experts in their own disciplines; including sciences; humanities; social sciences; law; and religion. The experts met in September 2014 at Naropa University in Boulder; Colorado; for two days of lively deliberations under the auspices of the Uberoi Foundation for Religious Studies; which was established to spread awareness and promote understanding of the Dharmic traditions throughout North America. After addressing the ‘central and fundamental’ knowledge of these traditions and the common features and interactions among them; the essays here discuss compassion from various perspectives; such as relationship with the natural world and the environment; selfless service; and the treatment of animals. A final set of essays sheds light on the significance of compassion in each of these Dharmic traditions. As a comparative study; this is a unique collection from which a clear picture emerges of the central theme of moral and compassionate conduct in the Dharmic traditions. COMPASSION IN THE 4 DHARMIC TRADITIONS edited by VED P. NANDA: Explore the concept of compassion in the context of the four Dharmic traditions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. This book highlights the shared value of compassion across these spiritual paths.

Book Dharma and Ecology of Hindu Communities

Download or read book Dharma and Ecology of Hindu Communities written by Pankaj Jain and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Indic religious traditions, a number of rituals and myths exist in which the environment is revered. Despite this nature worship in India, its natural resources are under heavy pressure with its growing economy and exploding population. This has led several scholars to raise questions about the role religious communities can play in environmentalism. Does nature worship inspire Hindus to act in an environmentally conscious way? This book explores the above questions with three communities, the Swadhyaya movement, the Bishnoi, and the Bhil communities. Presenting the texts of Bishnois, their environmental history, and their contemporary activism; investigating the Swadhyaya movement from an ecological perspective; and exploring the Bhil communities and their Sacred Groves, this book applies a non-Western hermeneutical model to interpret the religious traditions of Indic communities. With a foreword by Roger S Gottlieb.

Book excerpt: This book describes the concept of Karma in its historical development. The concept of Karma was already present in early Indian religious texts. But from the beginning it embraced broader sphere than terms between humans and gods. Therefore, later it answered for polytheism preservation, development of spiritual tolerance, and uprising of many sects in Hinduism framework. The concept of Karma remained rigidly irrelevant to any concrete religious world outlook. It was easily accepted by other spiritual movements being included into very different systems explaining arrangement of creation in whole. Karma concedes plenty of both gods and religions. This is third Russian edition of the book 'Karma Mastery' published by 'Starklight' (Moscow, 2006) and translated into English (2010). It includes second part of the author's Karmic series, published by 'Vector' (Saint-Petersburg, 2007). Second Russian edition of the series in two volumes was done by 'LitRes' (Moscow, 2009).
