Book excerpt: The Indian Constitution is the largest written constitution that guarantees equality to women and empowers the State to take affirmative actions in favour of women. India has adopted International conventions for protection of rights of women and granting them equality and ratified the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in the year 1993. The National Policy for Women Empowerment was presented in 2001, the goal of that policy to bring about the advancement, development and empowerment of women and enable women to become financially independent. Currently, India is the only country where the economic gender gap is larger than the political gender gap. Women are required to understand their own potential and overcome social barriers. With constant support of the government, change in stereotype mindset and skill development in women, India will continue witnessing gradual increase in women entrepreneurship in future. The aim of this book is to show the latest state of knowledge on the topic of women entrepreneurship, the role of women in business and women empowerment in India. Many aspects relating to role of women in business, sustainable business development and aspects going beyond economic empowerment of women are discussed in addition to presenting legal and regulatory frameworks. This book will be of interest to researchers, academics, policymakers, and students in the fields of entrepreneurship, empowerment, gender studies, and law.

Book Entrepreneurship and Rural Women in India

Download or read book Entrepreneurship and Rural Women in India written by Jitendra Ahirrao and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In India, entrepreneurship has assumed prime importance - both in research and in action - for accelerating economic growth. An entrepreneur is a critical factor who strives to reorient the national strategies and bring out the desired changes in the development pattern. Contrary to the earlier belief that entrepreneurs are a special breed and are born with special traits, entrepreneurship can be cultivated through proper training and financial support. An entrepreneur is a catalyst who can mobilize different resources and put them to effective use. In any nation, women constitute the backbone a country's prosperity. However, the role played by rural women in India's economic development has not been assigned sufficient importance. Women face gender-specific barriers in access to education, health, and employment. As well, women have little control over assets. Women are often under-paid or unpaid for their work. Their contribution to society and the economy are often ignored. This book examines at the role of women entrepreneurship in India's rural areas. The book shows that encouraging women to set up small enterprises - particularly in rural areas - is an effective method to promote their welfare, development, and empowerment.

Book Women Entrepreneurs in India

Download or read book Women Entrepreneurs in India written by Sowjanya Shetty and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We can achieve economic development and shared prosperity only with the full economic participation of men and women in the globalised and liberalised India. In recent years, support programmes for women entrepreneurs have gained traction and prominence as a mean to empower them, create jobs and boost productivity at the national and regional levels. In developing economies, the role of women is most significant as workers and job creators. In India, female entrepreneur's activity is concentrated in the informal sector with limited potential for growth in income and employment. In the Indian situation, female entrepreneurs are unable to grow their business from micro or small to medium or large productive enterprises with transformed economic impact. The World Bank estimation on the working-age population (15 to 59) is set to increase by more than 200 million in India in the next two decades, while it is expected to decline in most developing economies of the world including China. The era of globalisation has enhanced the role of women entrepreneurs. However, India may fail to obtain benefits without the participation of women, who form a significant mass of society. Active participation of women in economic activity and decision making is very much needed to increase GDP growth. Skill, knowledge-based education enables to change the role of women from homemaker to job maker. When a woman gets an education, a whole generation is educated. Education enhances knowledge which enables access to resources and opportunities. This paper focuses on the role of education in patterning and promoting women entrepreneurship and to examine problems, issues, challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.
