Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commercial Airplane Design Principles is a succinct, focused text covering all the information required at the preliminary stage of aircraft design: initial sizing and weight estimation, fuselage design, engine selection, aerodynamic analysis, stability and control, drag estimation, performance analysis, and economic analysis. The text places emphasis on making informed choices from an array of competing options, and developing the confidence to do so. Shows the use of standard, empirical, and classical methods in support of the design process Explains the preparation of a professional quality design report Provides a sample outline of a design report Can be used in conjunction with Sforza, Manned Spacecraft Design Principles to form a complete course in Aircraft/Spacecraft Design

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of the NACA 747A315 and 747A415 Airfoils from Tests in the NACA Two dimensional Low turbulence Pressure Tunnel

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of the NACA 747A315 and 747A415 Airfoils from Tests in the NACA Two dimensional Low turbulence Pressure Tunnel written by Albert E. Von Doenhoff and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Two low-drag airfoils, the NACA 747A315 and the NACA 747A415, designed to have reduced pitching moments about the quarter-chord point and moderately high values of the design lift coefficient have been tested in the NACA two-dimensional low-turbulence pressure tunnel. Section lift, drag, and pitching-moment coefficients are presented for Reynolds numbers of 3 x 106, 6 x 106, and 9 x 106, together with section lift and section drag data for a Reynolds number of 6 x 106 for the same airfoils with roughened leading edges.

Book Low speed Aerodynamic Characteristics of a 17 percent thick Airfoil Section Designed for General Aviation Applications

Download or read book Low speed Aerodynamic Characteristics of a 17 percent thick Airfoil Section Designed for General Aviation Applications written by Robert J. McGhee and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An investigation was conducted in the Langley low-turbulence pressure tunnel to determine the low-speed two-dimensional aerodynamic characteristics of a 17-percent thick airfoil designed for general aviation applications. The results are compared with a typical older NACA 65 series airfoil section. Also, a comparison between experimental data and predictions, based on a theoretical method for calculating the viscous flow about the airfoil, is presented. The tests were conducted over a Mach number range from 0.10 to 0.28 and an angle-of-attack range from -10° to 24°. Reynolds numbers, based on the airfoil chord, were varied from about 2.0x106 to 20.0x106. The results of the investigation indicate that maximum section lift coefficients increased rapidly at Reynolds numbers from about 2.0x106 to 6.0x106 and attained values greater than 2.0 for the plain airfoil and greater than 3.0 with a 20-percent-chord split flap deflected 60°. Stall characteristics were generally gradual and of the trailing-edge type either with or without the split flap. At a lift coefficient of 1.0 (climb condition) the section lift-drag ratio increased from about 65 to 85 as the Reynolds number increased from about 2.0x106 to 6.0x106. Maximum section lift coefficients were about 30 percent greater than that of a typical older NACA 65 series airfoil section and the section lift-drag ratio at a lift coefficient of 0.90 was about 50 percent greater. Agreement of experimental results with predictions based on a theoretical method which included viscous effects was good for the pressure distributions as long as no boundary-layer flow separation was present, but the theoretical method predicted drag values greatly in excess of the measured values."--Page 1

Book Development of a Computer Program to Obtain Ordinates for NACA 4 digit 4 digit Modified 5 digit and 16 series Airfoils

Download or read book Development of a Computer Program to Obtain Ordinates for NACA 4 digit 4 digit Modified 5 digit and 16 series Airfoils written by Charles L. Ladson and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Develops a computer program to calculate the ordinates and surface slopes of thickness, symmetrical, or cambered airfoil of the 4-digit, 4-digit modified, 5-digit, and 16-series airfoil families. The program also produces plots of the airfoil nondimensional ordinates and a punch card output of ordinates for determining the pressure distributions of arbitrary airfoils in subsonic potential viscous flow. The program is included as an appendix to this report.
