Book Fitness for Service Assessment of Corroded Pipelines

Download or read book Fitness for Service Assessment of Corroded Pipelines written by Ram Kumar Balakrishnan and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pipelines provide the safe and economic means of transporting oil and gas. Ageing of these pipelines leads to the gradual loss of pipe strength and degradation of performance, because of the development of corrosion defects. Assessment of the corroded pipeline for fitness for service purposes remains as a critical activity of the transmission pipeline integrity management program. Several Level 2 assessment methods have been developed so far to evaluate the remaining strength of corroded pipelines. Most of these methods are based on a semiempirical fracture mechanics approach. Although the ASME B31G criterion for the evaluation of corroded pipelines seems to be adequate for design, it is known to be conservative. The use of high toughness pipeline materials with good post yield characteristics has enabled the application of limit load estimation techniques based on net section collapse criterion for the evaluation of corroded pipelines.

Book Fault Diagnosis and Detection

Download or read book Fault Diagnosis and Detection written by Mustafa Demetgul and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-05-31 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mass production companies have become obliged to reduce their production costs and sell more products with lower profit margins in order to survive in competitive market conditions. The complexity and automation level of machinery are continuously growing. This development calls for some of the most critical issues that are reliability and dependability of automatic systems. In the future, machines will be monitored remotely, and computer-aided techniques will be employed to detect faults in the future, and also there will be unmanned factories where machines and systems communicate to each other, detect their own faults, and can remotely intercept their faults. The pioneer studies of such systems are fault diagnosis studies. Thus, we hope that this book will contribute to the literature in this regard.

Book Underground Pipeline Corrosion

Download or read book Underground Pipeline Corrosion written by Mark Orazem and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-02-17 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underground pipelines transporting liquid petroleum products and natural gas are critical components of civil infrastructure, making corrosion prevention an essential part of asset-protection strategy. Underground Pipeline Corrosion provides a basic understanding of the problems associated with corrosion detection and mitigation, and of the state of the art in corrosion prevention. The topics covered in part one include: basic principles for corrosion in underground pipelines, AC-induced corrosion of underground pipelines, significance of corrosion in onshore oil and gas pipelines, numerical simulations for cathodic protection of pipelines, and use of corrosion inhibitors in managing corrosion in underground pipelines. The methods described in part two for detecting corrosion in underground pipelines include: magnetic flux leakage, close interval potential surveys (CIS/CIPS), Pearson surveys, in-line inspection, and use of both electrochemical and optical probes. While the emphasis is on pipelines transporting fossil fuels, the concepts apply as well to metallic pipes for delivery of water and other liquids. Underground Pipeline Corrosion is a comprehensive resource for corrosion, materials, chemical, petroleum, and civil engineers constructing or managing both onshore and offshore pipeline assets; professionals in steel and coating companies; and academic researchers and professors with an interest in corrosion and pipeline engineering. Reviews the causes and considers the detection and prevention of corrosion to underground pipes Addresses a lack of current, readily available information on the subject Case studies demonstrate how corrosion is managed in the underground pipeline industry
