Book Development of a Reflectogram based Coke Strength Prediction Technique Applicable to Western Canadian Coking Coals

Download or read book Development of a Reflectogram based Coke Strength Prediction Technique Applicable to Western Canadian Coking Coals written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using multiple linear regression analysis of reflectance data, it is shownhow coke strength can be predicted to a level of assurance that is superiorto the previous technique. The level of assurance governs the number ofpartitions into which reflectance data are classified, but by using a universally-acceptable class size of 0.10% random relectance (a V-step),semi-automated relectograms can be used to predict coke strength to plus orminus 2.4 stability units at the 68% confidence level (twice this at the 95%level). No discrimination is made between coal macerals in thesereflectograms. In a completely automated system, in which there is no humanintervention of any kind an automated reflectogram partitioned into V-stepclasses can predict coke strength to plus or minus stability units.

Book excerpt: A Volume in the Sustainable World Series, Richard C. Dorf, Series Editor Coal is currently a major energy source in the United States as well as throughout the world, especially among many developing countries, and will continue to be so for many years. Fossil fuels will continue to be the dominant energy source for fueling the United States economy, with coal playing a major role for decades. Coal provides stability in price and availability, will continue to be a major source of electricity generation, will be the major source of hydrogen for the coming hydrogen economy, and has the potential to become an important source of liquid fuels. Conservation and renewable/sustainable energy are important in the overall energy picture, but will play a lesser role in helping us satisfy our energy demands. This book is a single source covering many coal-related subjects of interest ranging from explaining what coal is, where it is distributed and quantities it can be found in throughout the world, technical and policy issues regarding the use of coal, technologies used and under development for utilizing coal to produce heat, electricity, and chemicals with low environmental impact, vision for utilizing coal well into the 21st century, and the security coal presents. Key Features: ·A single-source reference for the energy professional, policy maker, and those interested in learning about the value of coal as an energy source that covers many aspects of coal and its use. ·Provides a comprehensive discussion of technical and policy issues regarding the use of coal. ·Presents coal's increasing role in providing energy security to the United States and other countries. ·Gives an up-to-date review of current energy usage, environmental issues, clean coal technologies under development, and policy factors affecting the use of coal. ·Addresses misconceptions of coal usage by illustrating that it can be used in an environmentally-friendly manner. Book Solid Fuels and Heavy Hydrocarbon Liquids Thermal Characterization and Analysis

Download or read book Solid Fuels and Heavy Hydrocarbon Liquids Thermal Characterization and Analysis written by Rafael Kandiyoti and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-04-06 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first strand involves a critical overview of the design of experimental methods used for examining the thermal behaviour of solid fuels [pyrolysis, liquefaction and gasification], while the second will emphasise chemical structures and molecular mass distributions of coal derived tars, extracts and pitches, petroleum-derived asphaltenes, and biomass derived heavy hydrocarbon liquids. Two major, interdependent strands in the study of fossil and renewable fuel utilisation are focused on within this text:(i) Thermal characterisation of solid fuels including various ranks of coals, biomass and waste, and, (ii) The analytical characterisation of heavy hydrocarbon liquids, covering coal, petroleum and biomass derived heavy fractions.
