Download or read book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 2 written by PENNSYLVANIA RESEARCH ASSOCIATES INC PHILADELPHIA. and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous work performed by Pennsylvania Research Associates, Inc. for the United States Naval Training Device Center demonstrated the technical and economic feasibility of a radar landmass simulator composed of a general-purpose digital computer. The computer operated on digitally stored data, and, through selected hybrid equipments, including a scan conversion tube, produced the radar video signal. The report applies to the second phase of a four-phase program implementing the real-time radar simulator. Phase 2 covers presentation of dynamic displays of cultural data, using a scan converter system and a large-scale general-purpose digital computer. The report describes the mathematical aspects of the radar model and specifically details the hardware and software required to construct the Phase 2 system. (Author).

Book excerpt: Previous work performed by Pennsylvania Research Associates, Inc. for the United States Naval Training Device Center demonstrated the technical and economic feasibility of a radar landmass simulator composed of a general-purpose digital computer. The computer operated on digitally stored data and through selected hybrid equipments, including a scan conversion tube, produced the radar video signal. The present investigation relates to the first phase of a four-phase program to implement the real time radar simulator. Phase 1 involves the presentation of static displays of cultural data using a scan converter system. This report discusses the size and shapes of data to be displayed; and indicates tests and test criteria to be used in evaluating the system. (Author).

(PRA) has assisted the Naval Training Device Center (NTDC) in the demonstration of a radar landmass simulator which displays culture data in real time. The simulator employs a general-purpose digital computer operating on digitally stored data. The radar video signal is produced through selected hybrid equipment, including a scan conversion tube. The report describes in detail the computer programs prepared by PRA for operation of the system at the Phase 2 stage of development. These include a special multiprogramming control program, a simplified flight simulator, and the radar picture manipulation programs. (Author).

Book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 6

Download or read book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 6 written by PENNSYLVANIA RESEARCH ASSOCIATES INC PHILADELPHIA. and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pennsylvania Research Associates Inc. (PRA) has assisted the Naval Training Device Center (NTDC) in the demonstration of a radar landmass simulator which displays culture data in real time. The report describes those additions, both hardware and software, which will include the effects of natural terrain. The hardware includes a matrix of 72 analog multipliers, called the MULTRIX, which evaluates a Lagrange polynomial region by region in real time. The errors in the analog implementation are shown to be composed of a random component due to the finite width of tolerance bands on the analog elements, and a fixed dc (drift) component due to uncompensated temperature changes. Book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator

Download or read book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous work performed by Pennsylvania Research Associates Inc. for the United States Naval Training Device Center demonstrated the technical and economic feasibility of a radar landmass simulator using a general-purpose computer. The computer operates on digitally stored data, and, through selected hybrid equipments including a scan conversion tube, produces the radar video signal. The present report is the final report under this contract. It summarizes the system design presented in previous reports. In addition, it describes the preparation of the culture data for the simulator. The data was digitized from maps and then joined together by means of a computer program. Finally some experiments on region size to determine the adequacy of PRA methods of terrain representation to handle long ranges were performed and the results reported here.

Book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 3

Download or read book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 3 written by PENNSYLVANIA RESEARCH ASSOCIATES INC PHILADELPHIA. and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present report applies to the second and third phases of a four-phase program implementing the real-time radar simulator. Phase 3 covers presentation of dynamic displays of terrain data in addition to the culture data displayed in Phase 2. Only those areas in which the Phase 3 system affects the Phase 2 system are discussed. The Phase 2 system is designed to add the Phase 3 system in a modular fashion; this report describes the hardware and software to do so. (Author).

Book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 7

Download or read book Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator Engineering Report Number 7 written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integrated set of computer software is described for the generation if airborne radar displays, simulating the earth's topographic features and man-made objects to the extent they are apparent on the indicator of a modern scanning radar, as a function of the aspect from which the earth is viewed and the salient characteristics of the viewing radar system. The programs are based on previous PRA work in the simulation of air-to-ground radar displays and provide a versatile laboratory tool for the evaluation of radar simulation techniques with a variety of user options for adjusting scale factors, inserting/deleting special effects, changing the precision of the calculations, incorporating nonlinearities, and varying characteristics of the simulated radar and its antenna.

Book Simulation of a Digital Radar Landmass Simulator

Download or read book Simulation of a Digital Radar Landmass Simulator written by Roger M. Derby and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report summarizes work in simulating the Digital Radar Landmass Simulator (DRLMS) for evaluation purposes. The software produced under this contract is run on a computing facility to generate simulated radar images on a radar display. The work done consisted of two parts: production of a data base and simulation of the hardware's processing of this data base. In development of the data base, the contractor compressed government-supplied data, in a grid format, to an 'edges' representation. The edges are ridge and valley lines, in the case of terrain data, and reflectance boundaries for culture data. The algorithms used to achieve this representation are not to be construed as 'optimum'. They are, however, vehicles for studying a technique and can be easily modified by the user if desired.

Book Digital Radar Landmass Simulation

Download or read book Digital Radar Landmass Simulation written by Craig E. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the in-house Radar Landmass Simulation (RLMS) project is to develop a research tool for study in the area of digital radar training devices. The tool should help one to determine an optimum specification for procured hardware and to define the training requirements, offer a means of evaluating proposed hardware schemes through simulation of the proposed schemes, and be capable of producing a simulated radar scope display in simulated real-time. Finally, the research tool should be easily changeable to facilitate experimentation. The report contains a general description of the hardware and software which has been developed, with emphasis on the results obtained. The appendices contain detailed schematics for the hardware, flowcharts and listings for the software.
