Book Development and Demonstration of a Flutter suppression System Using Active Controls

Download or read book Development and Demonstration of a Flutter suppression System Using Active Controls written by Maynard C. Sandford and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of active control technology to suppress flutter has been demonstrated successfully in the Langley transonic dynamics tunnel with a delta-wing model. The model was a simplified version of a proposed supersonic transport wing design. An active flutter-suppression method based on an aerodynamic energy criterion has been verified by using three different control laws. The first two control laws utilized both leading-edge and trailing-edge active control surfaces, whereas the third control law required only a single trailing-edge active control surface. At a Mach number of 0.9 the experimental results demonstrated increases in the flutter dynamic pressure from 12.5 percent to 30 percent with active controls. Analytical methods were developed to predict both open-loop and closed-loop stability, and the results agreed reasonably well with the experimental results.

Book Development and Flight Test of an Active Flutter Suppression System for the F 4F with Stores Part I Design of the Active Flutter Suppression System

Download or read book Development and Flight Test of an Active Flutter Suppression System for the F 4F with Stores Part I Design of the Active Flutter Suppression System written by H. Honlinger and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive research programs have been conducted at MBB and at AFWAL to investigate the application of active controls for the suppression of wing/store flutter. A flutter suppression system was developed and flight tested on an F-4F aircraft. The control law was designed by MBB using optimal control theory to minimize the control surface motion and to provide the required stability margins. During the test it was found that the dynamic behavior of the wing-pylon-store changed considerably with excitation amplitude due to free play and preload. The active flutter suppression system worked well and provided an increase in flutter speed. (Author).
