Book Development alternatives for the Rainey area

Download or read book Development alternatives for the Rainey area written by Austin (Tex.). Department of Planning and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rainey Area's prime location and the presence of considerable vacant or underutilized land have generated significant pressure for redevelopment. Due to concerns expressed by the Rainey Street Neighborhood Association about the effects of such redevelopment on the current residential character of the area, the City Council established a 180-day moratorium on development in the area on May 8, 1980 ... to allow time for ... an area-wide zoning study to guide the Planning Commission and City Council in decisions affecting the area ... Due to conflicting goals of area residents, property owners, the Rainey Street Neighborhood Association, and the East Austin Chicano Development Corporation (EACEDC), this study delineates three alternative land use patterns. Options available for the implementation of each alternative are outlined and the implications of each alternative on traffic and property taxes and revenues in the area are explained.

Book The Routledge Handbook on Spaces of Urban Politics

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook on Spaces of Urban Politics written by Kevin Ward and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 845 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook on Spaces of Urban Politics provides a comprehensive statement and reference point for urban politics. The scope of this handbook’s coverage and contributions engages with and reflects upon the most important, innovative and recent critical developments to the interdisciplinary field of urban politics, drawing upon a range of examples from within and across the Global North and Global South. This handbook is organized into nine interrelated sections, with an introductory chapter setting out the rationale, aims and structure of the Handbook, and short introductory commentaries at the beginning of each part. It questions the eliding of ‘urban politics’ into the ‘politics of the city’, reconsidering the usefulness of the distinction between ‘old’ and ‘new’ urban politics, considering issues of ‘class’, ‘gender’, ‘race’ and the ways in which they intersect, appear and reappear in matters of urban politics, how best to theorize the roles of capital, the state and other actors, such as social movements, in the production of the city and, finally, issues of doing urban political research. The various chapters explore the issues of urban politics of economic development, environment and nature in the city, governance and planning, the politics of labour as well as living spaces. The concluding sections of the Handbook examine the politics over alternative visions of cities of the future and provide concluding discussions and reflections, particularly on the futures for urban politics in an increasingly ‘global’ and multidisciplinary context. With over forty-five contributions from leading international scholars in the field, this handbook provides critical reviews and appraisals of current conceptual and theoretical approaches and future developments in urban politics. It is a key reference to all researchers and policy-makers with an interest in urban politics.

Book Sustainable Business Development

Download or read book Sustainable Business Development written by David L. Rainey and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-05-20 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a turbulent business environment, leaders must begin to think more broadly about what a corporation is and how it can create a richer future. With the globalisation of the world's economies, the intensification of competition, and quantum leaps in technological development, the insular and static strategic thinking of many global corporations has become inadequate for understanding the business environment and determining strategic direction. This 2006 book provides comprehensive and practical analysis of what sustainable business development (SBD) is and how companies can use it to make a significant difference. Case studies of companies in the US, Europe, the Pacific Rim and South America demonstrate that achieving innovation and integration depends on a comprehensive understanding of all of the forces which drive change and responding to them with fresh ways of strategic thinking. It is compulsory reading for MBA students and executives as well as professional readers.
