La méthode de référence pour comparer des nuages de points homologues est l’analyse procustéenne. La comparaison de plus de deux nuages nécessite l’utilisation d’un algorithme itératif d’analyse procustéenne généralisée (AGP). Ceux disponibles sur le marché ont été testés afin de mettre en lumière une possible instabilité. L’analyse factorielle multiple (AFM) fournit aussi une représentation superposée de nuages de points homologues. Il est possible de compléter l’AFM par un ajustement procrustéen de chacun des nuages initiaux sur le nuage moyen de l’AFM. On obtient ainsi une représentation de ces nuages qui à la fois respecte le modèle procrustéen et s’inscrit dans le cadre del’AFM. Cette nouvelle méthode, l’analyse factorielle multiple procustéenne (AFMP), ne présente l’avantage des deux méthodes (AFM et APG) et les résultats sont obtenus sans savoir recours à u algorithme. Dans un deuxième temps on s’est intéressé au cas où tous les individus n’étaient pas présents dans toutes les configurations. Une partie des valeurs est manquante et l’on cherche à comparer des configurations de points partiellement homologues. En pratique les méthodes d’imputation permettent d’obtenir un tableau complété sur lequel les analyses peuvent être réalisées comme s’il s’agissait d’un tableau complet. Deux méthodes d’immutation ont été décrites, programmées et testées sur des simulations et des données réelles. Les différentes méthodes développées au cours de ce travail ont été mises en œuvre sur des données réelles issues de recueils de données sensorielles par la méthode du napping.

It also includes examples of applications and details of how to implement MFA using an R package (FactoMineR). The first two chapters cover the basic factorial analysis methods of principal component analysis (PCA) and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA). The next chapter discusses factor analysis for mixed data (FAMD), a little-known method for simultaneously analyzing quantitative and qualitative variables without group distinction. Focusing on MFA, subsequent chapters examine the key points of MFA in the context of quantitative variables as well as qualitative and mixed data. The author also compares MFA and Procrustes analysis and presents a natural extension of MFA: hierarchical MFA (HMFA). The final chapter explores several elements of matrix calculation and metric spaces used in the book.

This book is the result of the work f a pan-European project team led by Edwin Diday following 3 years work sponsored by EUROSTAT. It includes a full explanation of the new SODAS software developed as a result of this project. The software and methods described highlight the crossover between statistics and computer science, with a particular emphasis on data mining.
