Book Rapid Determination of Uranium in Natural Waters by Thermal Emission Mass Spectrometry Revision 1

Download or read book Rapid Determination of Uranium in Natural Waters by Thermal Emission Mass Spectrometry Revision 1 written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A six-inch radius mass spectrometer has been constructed and demonstrated to adequately analyze water samples for uranium concentrations down to 5 to 10 ng/liter (ppt). The precision and accuracy of the isotope-dilution, thermal emission method is sufficient to meet the needs of the Uranium Resources Evaluation (URE) project. A single analyst can analyze in excess of 50 samples per day, including all preparation and instrument time. This analysis rate will meet the economic constraints of the URE analytical program.

Book Determination of the Concentration and Isotopic Composition of Uranium in Environmental Air Filters

Download or read book Determination of the Concentration and Isotopic Composition of Uranium in Environmental Air Filters written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has collected monthly air-particulate filter samples from a variety of environmental monitoring stations on and off site. Historically the concentration and isotopic composition of uranium collected on these filters was determined by isotope dilution using a 233U spike and thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS). For samples containing as little as 10 nanograms of uranium, ICP-MS is now used to make these measurements to the required level of precision, about 5% in the measured 235/238 and 233/238. Unless particular care is taken to control bias in the mass filter, variable mass bias limits accuracy to a few percent. Measurements of the minor isotopes 236 (if present) and 234 are also possible and provide useful information for identifying the source of the uranium. The advantage of ICP-MS is in rapid analysis, (approximately)12 minutes of instrument time per sample.

Book Practical Comparison of Plasma Mass Spectrometry to Other Analytical Techniques for the Determination of Uranium Concentration and Isotopic Ratios in Industrial Waste Materials

Download or read book Practical Comparison of Plasma Mass Spectrometry to Other Analytical Techniques for the Determination of Uranium Concentration and Isotopic Ratios in Industrial Waste Materials written by NP. Buddin and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several analytical techniques have long been used for uranium concentration and isotopic ratio determinations within the many Department of Energy laboratories located throughout the United States. Thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) has historically been the technique of choice for isotopic ratio measurements, primarily due to its capability for high precision. For uranium concentration work, the list of techniques is long and varied. Each of these methods has its own strengths and weaknesses, which can become critical in the analysis of difficult sample matrices such as sludges, oils, and mixed wastes.
