Book Field Methods for Determination of Soluble Salts and Percent Sodium from Extract for Identifying Dispersive Clay Soils

Download or read book Field Methods for Determination of Soluble Salts and Percent Sodium from Extract for Identifying Dispersive Clay Soils written by CP. Flanagan and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents field test procedures for determining the total dissolved salts and the percent sodium in the saturation pore water extract for the purpose of identifying dispersive clay soils. Soluble salts were determined by two methods. The first method used a sodium electrode and chemical reagents, while the second method used a wheatstone bridge. Plots of data and geometric regression analyses were used to determine the relationship between the soluble salts obtained by the two field techniques versus the soluble salts by atomic absorption. The percent sodium was calculated three separate ways using data from the sodium electrode, chemical reagents, and bridge. Plots of data and linear regression analyses were made of the percent sodium by the three methods versus the percent sodium by atomic absorption. In all plots of soluble salts and percent sodium, the atomic absorption data were used as the independent variable.

Book Guideline for Salinity Assessment Mitigation and Adaptation Using Nuclear and Related Techniques

Download or read book Guideline for Salinity Assessment Mitigation and Adaptation Using Nuclear and Related Techniques written by Mohammad Zaman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is an outcome of the collaboration between the Soil and Water Management & Crop Nutrition Section, Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, Austria, and Dr. Shabbir A Shahid, Senior Salinity Management Expert, Freelancer based in United Arab Emirates. The objective of this book is to develop protocols for salinity and sodicity assessment and develop mitigation and adaptation measures to use saline and sodic soils sustainably. The focus is on important issues related to salinity and sodicity and to describe these in an easy and user friendly way. The information has been compiled from the latest published literature and from the authors’ publications specific to the subject matter. The book consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the terms salinity and sodicity and describes various salinity classification systems commonly used around the world. Chapter 2 reviews global distribution of salinization and socioeconomic aspects related to salinity and crop production. Chapters 3 covers comprehensively salinity and sodicity adaptation and mitigation options including physical, chemical, hydrological and biological methods. Chapter 4 discusses the efforts that have been made to demonstrate the development of soil salinity zones under different irrigation systems. Chapter 5 discusses the quality of irrigation water, boron toxicity and relative tolerance to boron, the effects of chlorides on crops. Chapter 6 introduces the role of nuclear techniques in saline agriculture.

Book Research Methods in Plant Sciences Allelopathy Vol 1 Soil Analysis

Download or read book Research Methods in Plant Sciences Allelopathy Vol 1 Soil Analysis written by S.S. Narwal and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2004-07-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Allelopathy is a new field of science, as the term 'Allelopathy' was coined by Prof. Hans Molisch, a German Plant Physiologist in 1937. Till now lot of Allelopathy research work has been done in various fields of Agricultural and Plant Sciences. However, there is no compilation of various Research Methods used. Every scientist is conducting research in his own way. It is causing lot of problems to researchers working in underdeveloped/Third World Countries in small towns without Library facilities. Therefore, to make available the standard methods for conducting allelopathy research independently, this multi-volume book has been planned. Since allelopathy is multi-disciplinary area of research, hence, volumes have been planned for each discipline. Prof. S.S. Narwal has planned this multi-volume Book Research Methods in Plant Sciences: Allelopahty. Three volumes (Volume 1. Soil Analysis, Volume 2. Plant Protection and Volume 3. Plant Pathogens) of this Book have been released during the IV. International Allelopathy Conference, 2004 at Hisar(India). Five volumes (Volume 4. Plant Analysis, Volume 5. Physiological Processes, Volume 6. Biochemical Processes, Volume 7. Forestry/Agroforestry Research and Volume 8. Isolation, Identification and Characterization of allelochemicals are under preparation. Volume 1. Soil Analysis is consists of 20 Chapters, describing the methods to analyse various types of soil properties. The Book is devided into three Sections: General, Physio-chemical properties and Soil microbiology. It provides complete information for Soil Analysis in simple and lucid language. The Figures/ illustrations have been given at appropriate places in text. It will prove very useful to undergraduate and post graduate students and teaching Faculty for Class Room and Laboratory experiments as well as for research.
