Book Preconcentration Techniques for Natural and Treated Waters

Download or read book Preconcentration Techniques for Natural and Treated Waters written by T.R. Crompton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-10-31 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equipment used for the analysis of water is frequently insufficiently sensitive to be able to detect the low concentrations of organic and inorganic substances present in samples. Applying preconcentration to the sample prior to analysis means the results gained are more accurate and can be used to report trends more effectively. Each chapter of Pr

Book excerpt: Examines in a pedagogical way all pertinent molecular and macroscopic processes that govern the distribution and fate of organic chemicals in the environment and provides simple modeling tools to quantitatively describe these processes and their interplay in a given environmental system Treats fundamental aspects of chemistry, physics, and mathematical modeling as applied to environmentally relevant problems, and gives a state of the art account of the field Teaches the reader how to relate the structure of a given chemical to its physical chemical properties and intrinsic reactivities Provides a holistic and teachable treatment of phase partitioning and transformation processes, as well as a more focused and tailor-made presentation of physical, mathematical, and modeling aspects that apply to environmental situations of concern Includes a large number of questions and problems allowing teachers to explore the depth of understanding of their students or allowing individuals who use the book for self-study to check their progress Provides a companion website, which includes solutions for all problems as well as a large compilation of physical constants and compound properties

Book Organic Substances and Sediments in Water

Download or read book Organic Substances and Sediments in Water written by Robert A. Baker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-08-19 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fate and transport of natural and anthropogenic sediment-borne organic contaminants is a critical environmental issue and complex processes are involved that until now have been poorly defined. Organic Substances and Sediments in Water is a three-volume book that provides the best information available regarding the many interdisciplinary factors affecting organic substances associated with particulates in water. Topics discussed include absorption and transport of contaminants associated with particles; interfacial processes affecting fate and transport of organic substances associated with particles; the release of contaminants in receiving water bodies; water treatment; the role of biological factors in the fate and transport of organic contaminants in aqueous systems; development of biotransformation in natural and anthropogenic systems; the use of organic contaminant and sediment chemicals; biological and physical data to refine models to be used by resource managers; and chemical and biological processes that affect the fate and transport of organic constituents and determine degradation of contaminants and uptake in plants. This will be an important reference for environmental chemists, environmental engineers, environmental biologists, water treatment and natural system modelers, and soils scientists.

Book Organic Pollutants in Water

Download or read book Organic Pollutants in Water written by I. H. Suffet and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 824 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides answers to important questions concerning the sampling, isolation, and analysis methods used to determine the chemicals of health concern that are in drinking waters, waste waters, and natural waters. Discusses analytical protocols for concentrating organic compounds for toxicity testing, reverse osmosis to isolate organic pollutants from water, and synthetic polymers for concentrating organic chemicals from water. Offers novel methods to isolate and fractionate organic chemicals in water samples, isolation methods to collect large amounts of organic chemicals from water, biological testing of waterborne organic compounds, and the toxicological testing-analysis interface. A valuable reference for researchers involved in environmental toxic contamination analysis and identification, as well as research biologists, pharmaceutical chemists, environmentalists, toxicologists, and pharmacologists.

Book Analysis and Formation of Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water

Download or read book Analysis and Formation of Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drinking water disinfection has markedly reduced diseases causes by waterborne pathogenic microorganisms. However, an unintended consequence of disinfection and/or oxidation processes is the generation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) which are formed from the reactions of disinfectants/oxidants with water matrix components. This volume of the Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry Handbook presents recent advances about the formation, identification, and quantification of inorganic and organic DBPs during oxidative processes. The book begins with a first chapter reviewing the most recent non-targeted screening approaches and workflows to characterize DBPs using low-, high-, and ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry. The second chapter discusses the analysis of inorganic chloramines in waters using on-site and/or in-lab analytical methods. The third chapter provides an overview of the current knowledge about the mechanisms of chlorine dioxide reactions and byproducts formation. The fourth chapter presents some fundamental and practical aspects about ozonation processes in water treatment and provides an overview about ozone reaction mechanisms and byproducts formation. The fifth chapter focuses on the reactivity of halide ions, particularly bromide and iodide, with common oxidants and the role they play in determining the speciation of DBPs in treated waters. The chapter also presents strategies to mitigate the formation of DBPs during oxidation processes. Finally, the last chapter tackles the topic of DBPs formation during potable water reuse. It discusses the formation of DBPs of major concern in both memebrane-based and non-membrane-based potable water reuse treatment schemes. Researchers, water treatment specialists, and regulators will find in this book a valuable and compact resource on several key topics regarding the formation, identification, quantification, and mitigation of DBPs. Identification and quantification of known and unknown DBPs Formation of DBPs during different disinfection/oxidation processes DBPs of concern in new technologies and/or new applications of existing technologies in water treatment
