Book Characterization and Properties of Petroleum Fractions

Download or read book Characterization and Properties of Petroleum Fractions written by M. R. Riazi and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2005 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last three chapters of this book deal with application of methods presented in previous chapters to estimate various thermodynamic, physical, and transport properties of petroleum fractions. In this chapter, various methods for prediction of physical and thermodynamic properties of pure hydrocarbons and their mixtures, petroleum fractions, crude oils, natural gases, and reservoir fluids are presented. As it was discussed in Chapters 5 and 6, properties of gases may be estimated more accurately than properties of liquids. Theoretical methods of Chapters 5 and 6 for estimation of thermophysical properties generally can be applied to both liquids and gases; however, more accurate properties can be predicted through empirical correlations particularly developed for liquids. When these correlations are developed with some theoretical basis, they are more accurate and have wider range of applications. In this chapter some of these semitheoretical correlations are presented. Methods presented in Chapters 5 and 6 can be used to estimate properties such as density, enthalpy, heat capacity, heat of vaporization, and vapor pressure. Characterization methods of Chapters 2-4 are used to determine the input parameters needed for various predictive methods. One important part of this chapter is prediction of vapor pressure that is needed for vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations of Chapter 9.

Book Aromatic Hydrocarbons in High Boiling Fractions

Download or read book Aromatic Hydrocarbons in High Boiling Fractions written by B. J. Mair and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Project 6 of the Am. Petroleum Inst. is summarized. An integrated approach was used to, as far as possible, isolate, identify, and determine the amounts of the aromatic hydrocarbon components present in petroleum. Methods of analysis and compounds identified in four portions of the reference petroleum are reviewed: (1) The mononuclear aromatic portion of the light gas oil fraction, 230 to 305 C, (2) The dinuclear aromatic portion of the light gas oil fraction, 255 to 275 C, (3) The dinuclear aromatic portion of the light gas oil fraction, 275 to 300 C, (4) The trinuclear aromatic portion of the heavy gas oil and light lubricating distillate.

Book Standard Test Method for Boiling Range Distribution of Petroleum Fractions by Gas Chromatography

Download or read book Standard Test Method for Boiling Range Distribution of Petroleum Fractions by Gas Chromatography written by ASTM Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Significance and Use[.] The boiling range distribution of petroleum fractions provides an insight into the composition of feedstocks and products related to petroleum refining processes. The gas chromatographic simulation of this determination can be used to replace conventional distillation methods for control of refining operations. This test method can be used for product specification testing with the mutual agreement of interested parties. Boiling range distributions obtained by this test method are essentially equivalent to those obtained by true boiling point (TBP) distillation (see Test Method D 2892). They are not equivalent to results from low efficiency distillations such as those obtained with Test Method D 86 or D 1160."--ASTM International website, viewed 1 June 2010.
