Book Determinants of Equity Prices in the Stock Markets

Download or read book Determinants of Equity Prices in the Stock Markets written by Jimoh Ezekiel Oseni and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brav amp; Heaton (2003) alleges market indeterminacy (a situation where it is impossible to determine whether an asset is efficiently or inefficiently priced) in the stock market. Kang (2008) argue that empirical tests of linear asset pricing models show presence of mispricing in asset pricing. Asset pricing is considered efficient if the asset price reflects all available market information to the extent no informed trader can outperform the market and/or the uninformed trader. This study examined the extent to which some information factors or market indices affect the stock price. A model defined by Al-Tamimi (2007) was used to regress the variables (stock prices, earnings per share, gross domestic product, lending interest rate and foreign exchange rate) after testing for multicollinarity among the independent variables. The multicollinarity test revealed very strong correlation between gross domestic product and crude oil price, gross domestic product and foreign exchange rate, lending interest rate and inflation rate. All the variables have positive correlation to stock prices with the exception of lending interest rate and foreign exchange rate. The outcomes of the study agree with earlier studies by Udegbunam and Eriki (2001); Ibrahim (2003) and Chaudhuri and Smiles (2004).This study has enriched the existing literature while it would help policy makers who are interested in deploying instruments of monetary policy and other economic indices for the growth of the capital market.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume aims to discuss the most contemporary state of the determinants of the firm value. This book presents theoretical works as well as empirical studies that contrast the arguments offered by the leading, ground-breaking theories on the firm value. What variables determine the firm value? Are these determinants controllable or uncontrollable by the managers of the companies? Is the impact of corporate governance systems on the firm value symmetrical between different institutional contexts? Do the financial reports affect the value of the firm? What role does corporate social responsibility play as a determinant of the firm value? These and other questions are analyzed and scrutinized step by step throughout this book.

Book Equity Share Price Determinants

Download or read book Equity Share Price Determinants written by Challa Kiran and published by . This book was released on 2022-10-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a study that demonstrates a new approach to support the investors while investing in stock markets. A number of empirical research works have been conducted in the area of equity share price determinants. There are many factors, which influence the market prices of the stocks of the companies. As the economic environment of each country differs, the influence and approach of factors thereby differs. The market price of the share is the most important and crucial variable in stock market. The main objective of the study is to measure the relationship between stock prices and company specific intrinsic factors, such as, dividend per share, earnings per share, book value, and size in terms of sales, dividend yield, dividend payout, return on net worth and price to earnings ratio. The other objectives covered in the book are: (1) To examine the empirical relationship between equity share prices and explanatory variables, such as book value per share, return on net worth, size in terms of sales, etc., (2) To analyze the relationship between the equity share price and variables, such as earnings per share, price-earnings ratio, dividend yield, dividend per share, dividend payout during the period of study, (3) To evaluate the impact of select non-financial variables on the market price of the share and earnings per share of the select industrial companies, and (4) To suggest the measures for the efficient decision making of the prospective investors while selecting stocks so as to get better returns on their investments. Annual reports data from BSE and SEBI is used covering a period of 10 years from 2003-04 to 2012-2013 to understand the market trend. For an empirical analysis, both financial and statistical techniques are employed and to get the precision of the results, the SPSS software packages are used. The results are verified by applying t-test & F-test in appropriate cases.

Book Determinants of Stock Prices

Download or read book Determinants of Stock Prices written by T. Oyama and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1997-09-01 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the general relationship between stock prices and macroeconomic variables in Zimbabwe, using the revised dividend discount model, error-correction model, and multi-factor return-generating model. Despite the large fluctuation in stock prices since 1991, this analysis indicates that the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange has been functioning quite consistently during this period. Whereas sharp increases in stock prices during 1993-94 were mainly due to the shift of risk premium that was caused by the partial capital account liberalization, the recent rapid increase in stock prices can be explained by the movements of monetary aggregates and market interest rates.

Book The Determinants of the Variability of Stock Market Prices

Download or read book The Determinants of the Variability of Stock Market Prices written by Sanford J. Grossman and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most familiar interpretation for the large and unpredictable swings that characterize common stock price indices is that price changes represent the efficient discounting of "new information" It is remarkable given the popularity of this interpretation that it has never been established what this information is about. Recent work by Shiller, and Stephen LeRoy and Richard Porter, has shown evidence that the variability of stock price indices cannot be accounted for by information regarding future dividends since dividends just do not seem to vary enough to justify the price movement. These studies assume a constant discount factor. In this paper, we consider whether the variability of stock prices can be attributed to information regarding discount factors (i.e., real interest rates), which are in turn related to current and future levels of economic activity. The appropriate discount factor to be applied to dividends which are received k years from today is the marginal rate of substitution between consumption today and consumption k periods from today, We use historical data on per capita consumption from 1890-1979 to estimate the realized value of these marginal rates of substitution. Theoretically, as LeRoy and C. J. La Civita have also noted independently of us, consumption variability may induce stock price variability whose magnitude depends on the degree of risk aversion

All aspects of the stock market are covered, including the basic tools that will enable the reader to understand the stock market basics, the history of stock market performance in the US and overseas, the various ways to value stocks and to assess their risk, and the variousmethods that have been proposed to capitalize on the inefficiencies of the stock market, be they temporary or permanent. The book also deals with the derivative markets for stocks.
