Book A Destiny Denied A Dignity Restored

Download or read book A Destiny Denied A Dignity Restored written by Harry Smith and published by XinXii. This book was released on 2020-03-24 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are all part of the one body, the “body of Christ.” Each follower of Christ is in a way, an organic cell that belongs to it while taking on different denominational or national characteristics. Every cell in the human body will carry the same DNA, and yet cells can be grouped together to form very different organs, each with their unique function and role to play for the benefit of the whole. What I long for, is to see the Native parts of the Body of Christ in America increasingly find their place(s) in the Body - indigenous expressions included - for the purposes of not only having their dignity restored and for the evangelizing of their own people, but more significantly, so that they can more fully worship their Creator as He intended them to. This is healing! If a part of the Body is missing or is not functioning properly, then the “whole” does not function as it should! That has become my position because of my journey in reconciliation in the divided culture and Church in Ireland and out of my awareness of the wounds my tribe inflicted on the Native Americans because of our colonial exploits. I yearn to see those wounds healed! In this book you will: • Learn more about Colonial and Native American reconciliation issues • Gain deeper insights into some of the United States of America’s foundational history • Understand more about the strongholds Satan laid into those foundations • Be equipped to join with others to intercede and work for the healing of these wounds “This is a staggering revelation of how our misused Christian faith has been responsible for shaping national policies of domination and exploitation in the British Isles and North America. It is a wake-up call to heal the wounds of history.”

Book Manifest Destiny s Underworld

Download or read book Manifest Destiny s Underworld written by Robert E. May and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2003-04-03 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating study sheds new light on antebellum America's notorious "filibusters--the freebooters and adventurers who organized or participated in armed invasions of nations with whom the United States was formally at peace. Offering the first full-scale analysis of the filibustering movement, Robert May relates the often-tragic stories of illegal expeditions into Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and other Latin American countries and details surprising numbers of aborted plots, as well. May investigates why thousands of men joined filibustering expeditions, how they were financed, and why the U.S. government had little success in curtailing them. Surveying antebellum popular media, he shows how the filibustering phenomenon infiltrated the American psyche in newspapers, theater, music, advertising, and literature. Condemned abroad as pirates, frequently in language strikingly similar to modern American denunciations of foreign terrorists, the filibusters were often celebrated at home as heroes who epitomized the spirit of Manifest Destiny. May concludes by exploring the national consequences of filibustering, arguing that the practice inflicted lasting damage on U.S. relations with foreign countries and contributed to the North-South division over slavery that culminated in the Civil War.

Book excerpt: What's the point of being a Christian anymore? Many Christians today are feeling unfulfilled in their walk with God, and they have no idea it’s because of the little decisions they’re making each day that are leading them into lives of compromise. In Navigate Your Faith Ron Pratt uses a fictional American family to expose how the enemy lures believers into prioritizing their own pleasure, entertainment, or career goals over their relationship with Christ. This erodes their passion for Jesus and causes them to become spiritually bored and have powerless Christian lives. Rather than claiming that God will approve of Christians no matter what they do, as some modern ministers do, Navigate Your Faith challenges readers to take a hard look at their lives and see if they’re simply incorporating Jesus into their lifestyles or allowing Him to set them on a course of His choosing. With proven strategies to rebuild lost intimacy with God, this book will help Christians recognize the deceptive tactics of the enemy, break out of complacency, and make a greater impact on the world around them. This book will help you recognize and avoid the deception of today's nominal Christian culture.

Book Destiny Betrayed

Download or read book Destiny Betrayed written by James DiEugenio and published by Skyhorse Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you enjoyed the chilling reading of In Cold Blood and were at the edge of your seat while watching Oliver Stone's JFK, you'll love this investigative look into all the facets of one of the top conspiracies of the twentieth century and beyond. DiEugenio, who has spent decades researching the Kennedy assassination, takes both an analytical and conversational approach to his fascinating exploration of the pivotal historical events and scandals surrounding that day. Twenty years after the first edition of Destiny Betrayed, DiEugenio is back with his ever-expanding investigation into the life and death of JFK. But this is no simple reissue. It is a greatly revised and expanded version of the original book, including updates on all the topics it introduced back in 1992. DiEugenio has used the declassification process of the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) to obtain the most current information on topics like the Garrison investigation and Clay Shaw; the newly exposed fallacies of the Warren Commission; U.S.-Cuban policy from 1957 to 1963; Kennedy's withdrawal plan from Vietnam; Kennedy's challenge to the Cold War consensus in 1961, and where those ideas originated; the ARRB medical inquiry demonstrating conspiracy and cover up; and the problems with the investigation of the Kennedy case. DiEugenio's primary focus is on the Garrison inquiry, the New Orleans aspects of the Kennedy murder investigation, and the revelatory new information that bolsters Garrison's case and has been withheld from the public. All of this and more is contained in the narrative of this complex crime, with twin focuses on the victim, John F. Kennedy, and the investigator, Jim Garrison. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

  • Author : Barbara Boone Wooten

  • Release : 2008-01
  • ISBN : 9781599791937
  • Pages : 286 pages

Download or read book Destiny Denied written by Barbara Boone Wooten and published by Creation House. This book was released on 2008-01 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexism is denounced in the workplace, so why hasn't it been in the church? Barbara Wooten tackles this tough question and discusses the full ramifications of subordination and its impact on women. She provides scriptural answers for those who believe that a woman should not be restricted to a limited role within the church and home. Wooten points out that men and women should be able to tap into God's best practices without the limitations and constraints of man-made restrictive thoughts and theories. Highlighted is the fact that Jesus did use women in ministry while He was here on Earth, and He wants to use women today in the great harvest field. Wooten notes that it says in Matthew 28: 19: All Christians are to go and make disciples of all nations. Therefore, man has no legitimate argument in limiting women's participation in the Great Commission or ministry to those who are lost.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1891 a young W. E. B. DuBois addressed the annual American Historical Association on the enforcement of slave trade laws: “Northern greed joined to Southern credulity was a combination calculated to circumvent any law, human or divine.” One law in particular he was referring to was the Abolition Act of 1808. It was specifically passed to end the foreign slave trade. However, as Ernest Obadele-Starks shows, thanks to profiteering smugglers like the Lafitte brothers and the Bowie brothers, the slave trade persisted throughout the south for a number of years after the law was passed. Freebooters and Smugglers examines the tactics and strategies that the adherents of the foreign slave trade used to challenge the law. It reassesses the role that Americans played in the continuation of foreign slave transshipments into the country right up to the Civil War, shedding light on an important topic that has been largely overlooked in the historiography of the slave trade.

Book Divine Providence in the England of Shakespeare s Histories

Download or read book Divine Providence in the England of Shakespeare s Histories written by H.A. Kelly and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-01-30 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fascinating study, Henry Ansgar Kelly examines the treatment of fifteenth-century English history - the period covered in Shakespeare's history plays, from Richard II to the accession of Henry VII - by contemporary chroniclers, by sixteenth-century historians, and by Elizabethan poets, notably Shakespeare. The author reveals the large role that political bias played in the contemporary accounts: favorite sons were endowed with divine support while cosmically base troubles were attributed to the opposition. He shows that instead of the 'Tudor myth' spoken of by present-day scholars there is a Lancaster myth, a York myth, and a somewhat different Tudor myth. Each is heralded by the partisans of these dynasties. The Lancaster myth regards Richard II's overthrow as providentially arranged and Henry IV's reign as a divine favor, continued under Henry V and Henry VI. The York myth considers Henry VI's loss of the reign as a providential restoration of the usurped throne to the lawful heir of Richard II, namely Edward IV. Kelly finds that the real Tudor myth differs importantly from the widely accepted version in that, far from accepting the Yorkist view that the Henries were punished by God, it accepts the legitimacy of the Lancastrian dynasty: it regards Henry VII, the closest surviving Lancastrian heir, as the providential instrument in the defeat of the wicked Yorkist Richard III and the divinely favored bringer of peace to England. The myth was formulated by the historians and poets who wrote immediately after Henry VII's accession to the throne in 1485. The later chroniclers (especially Polydore Vergil, Hall, and Holinshed) incorporated elements of all three myths - Lancaster, York, and Tudor - but for moralistic rather than for political purposes, often with contradictory results. Shakespeare's great contribution, Kelly asserts, was to sort out the partisan layers that had been blended in the recent compilations available to him and to distribute them to approporiate spokesmen - Lancastrian sentiments to Lancastrians, and so on. He thus eliminated all the purportedly objective providential judgments of his sources and presented such judgments as the opinions of the persons voicing them, thereby allowing each play to create its own ethos and mythos and offer its own hypotheses concerning the springs of human and cosmic action.
