In this paper, we study coordination issues of a sustainable supply chain that arise due to simultaneous consideration of greening and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by supply chain agents. We specifically consider the scenario where the supplier is responsible for greening and the buyer is accountable for social responsibility. We analyse our model using two-stage Stackelberg game-theoretic approach where the supplier acts as a Stackelberg leader. In this context, we analyse the decentralised supply chain setting using five different contract types, namely wholesale price, linear two-part tariff (LTT), greening-cost sharing, revenue sharing, and revenue and greening-cost sharing contracts (RGCS). We demonstrate how optimal greening level, CSR level, retail price and profits of supply chain agents are influenced by different contract types. Our analytical results show that greening and social efforts undertaken by supply chain agents are beneficial for the overall supply chain as long as consumer awareness towards greening and CSR exists. Our results show that channel coordinating mechanisms between supplier and buyer is conducive to improve greening and CSR level. LTT perfectly coordinates the supply chain. Through a numerical example with several key parameters we present the effectiveness of different contracts. The results reveal that as a profit maximising agent the supplier prefers LTT contract and the buyer prefers RGCS contract. This paper extends the understanding of supply chain coordination in the context of sustainability.

Several boundary conditions are derived to assist the manufacturer to make the optimal procurement decision. In addition, how to select appropriate locations for the manufacturer to set up factories are analyzed by comparison of the influences of carbon emission regulations. With respect to the asymmetric information of suppliers, the second topic firstly focuses on the procurement contract design issue between a manufacturer and a single supplier. The green degree of a supplier is private and known only by the supplier itself. This factor predominately determines the emission volumes of the manufacturer. Under the emissions trading mechanism, the procurement contract between the profit-maximization manufacturer and the supplier is analyzed under different types of auctions, and a scenario of competitive procurement with multiple suppliers is discussed. From the dynamic viewpoint, the third topic aims to analyze the impact of carbon tax schemes on the pricing issue in a decentralized supply chain with a profit-maximization manufacturer and multiple suppliers. Two types of pricing strategies are derived respectively for both suppliers and the manufacturer. In addition, to observe a more general outcome, the scenario for the manufacturer sourcing from an n-suppliers' oligopoly is studied. The comparative statics analysis is conducted for the pricing strategies under different situations and parameter settings. Regarding each specific model, research outcomes provide meaningful managerial implications for both manufacturers and suppliers. Manufacturers benefit from the findings by adopting flexible strategies (e.g., ordering strategy, contract design, pricing strategy) when they comply with different carbon emissions regulations. The suppliers can have a better understanding of methods for maintaining or increasing their market share and the mutual effects of the strategies on the manufacturer and suppliers.

Chapter 3 conducts a mean-risk analysis for wholesale price contracts, taking into account contracting value risk and risk preferences. Chapter 4 studies the optimization of product service system by franchise fee contracts in the service-oriented manufacturing supply chain with demand information asymmetry. Chapter 5 develops a bidirectional option contract model and explores the optimal contracting decisions and supply chain coordination issue with the bidirectional option. Chapter 6 addresses supply chain options pricing issue and a value-based pricing scheme is developed for the supply chain options. With a cooperative game theory approach, Chapter 7 explores the issues concerning supply chain contract selection/implementation with the option contract under consideration. Chapter 8 concludes the book and suggests worthy directions for future research.

Although relational contracts persist in practice, research on these types of contract is only emerging in Operations and Supply Chain Management. This book studies a two-firm supply chain, where repeated transactions via well-established supply contracts and continued quality-improvement efforts are governed by a relational contract. We are able to characterize an optimal relational contract, i.e., to develop policies for supplier and buyer that structure investments in quality and flexibility in a way that no other self-enforcing contract generates higher expected joint surplus. A second goal is to compare the performance of different returns mechanisms in the context of relational contracting (quantity flexibility and buy-back contracts). Industry studies motivate the presented model.

Book excerpt: In the context of supply contract design, the more powerful party has the liberty of withholding private information which also improves its bargaining power. Traditionally, the supplier (e.g., manufacturer) has been more powerful, and, hence, the existing literature in the area emphasizes supplier-driven contracts. However, in some current markets, such as the grocery channel, the bargaining power has shifted to the buyer (e.g., retailer). For example, in the United States, large retailers, such as Wal-Mart, exert tremendous market power over their suppliers. Also, with the advent of the Internet, buyers have gained access to much more information about multiple potential suppliers. Hence, this dissertation takes into account the recent trends in power shifting between suppliers and buyers, and it attempts to provide a comparison of optimal supply contract designs in supplier- versus buyer-driven channels. This research is unique in that we explore the impact of both power shifting and information asymmetry while designing optimal supply chain contracts under supply uncertainty and competition. Placing an emphasis on the cases of stochasticand/or price-sensitive demand, we work on several novel problems in stochastic mod-eling, nonlinear and dynamic optimization, and game theory. Hence, this researchhas roots in applied probability, optimization, inventory theory, game theory, and eco-nomics. The goal is to advance our practical knowledge of designing implementablecontracts because such knowledge is crucial for optimizing supply chain performance in the real world. This dissertation provides insights about* the individual and joint impacts of the power structure and information asymmetry on supply chain performance, *the value of information for contract design in supplier- versus buyer-driven channels, * the impact of supply uncertainty and supplier competition on contract designin supplier- versus buyer-driven channels.
