Book Designing Pulse Coupled Oscillators to Synchronize

Download or read book Designing Pulse Coupled Oscillators to Synchronize written by Joel Daniel Nishimura and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oscillators exhibit some of the simplest dynamic behavior, yet systems of interacting oscillators are capable of intricate and complex behaviors. It is partly this elegance that has made them a frequent object of study, but also their ubiquity. In particular, pulse coupled oscillators (PCOs), where oscillator interactions occur at discrete times are particularly applicable. Not only do PCOs have applications in biological systems-such as the heart's pacemaker, flashing fireflies, and biological neural networks-PCOs have recently been adapted to control clocks inside wireless sensor networks [33, 21]. However, since traditional PCO models were designed to study synchronization abstractly, it is not surprising that they are no longer able to synchronize when exposed to real world settings. This thesis investigates the classic dynamical systems question of the synchronization of pulse coupled oscillators when classic dynamical systems tools no longer apply. Instead, utilizing a variety of nonstandard techniques, we design a new PCO model and prove strong theoretical results, which have applications in biology and the engineering of wireless sensor networks.

Book Design of Ultra Low Power Impulse Radios

Download or read book Design of Ultra Low Power Impulse Radios written by Alyssa Apsel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the fundamental principles behind the design of ultra-low power radios and how they can form networks to facilitate a variety of applications within healthcare and environmental monitoring, since they may operate for years off a small battery or even harvest energy from the environment. These radios are distinct from conventional radios in that they must operate with very constrained resources and low overhead. This book provides a thorough discussion of the challenges associated with designing radios with such constrained resources, as well as fundamental design concepts and practical approaches to implementing working designs. Coverage includes integrated circuit design, timing and control considerations, fundamental theory behind low power and time domain operation, and network/communication protocol considerations.

Book Synchronization of Oscillators and Global Output Regulation for Rigid Body Systems

Download or read book Synchronization of Oscillators and Global Output Regulation for Rigid Body Systems written by Gerd Simon Schmidt and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2014 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of nonlinear dynamis in physical and engineering systems from the point of view of systems and control theory is important to develop better engineering systems. Synchronization of oscillators and output regulation for rigid body systems are two problem classes which are inherently nonlinear and are of great importance in applications. This thesis contains novel results for both problem classes. In the case of sychronization of oscillators we consider two different system classes and give sufficient or necessary conditions for synchronization. In the case of the output regulation problems for rigid body systems we provide a new two-step control design procedure, a detailed analysis for the error dynamics and an application scenario for satellite control. A highlight of the thesis is a new separation principle which is the underlying principle of the two-step design procedure for the output regulation problem.

Book A Kernel Module for Pulse Coupled Time Synchronization in Sensor Networks

Download or read book A Kernel Module for Pulse Coupled Time Synchronization in Sensor Networks written by Krishna Mosalakanti and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bio-inspired synchronization strategies in wireless ad-hoc sensor networks based on pulse-coupled oscillators have been favorably received as an appealing alternative to traditional message-based synchronization strategies. Their inherent scalability, simplicity, statelessness and lack of hierarchy render pulse-coupled synchronization attractive in wireless ad-hoc networks. However favorable as they are, implementing pulse-coupled techniques towards timing synchronization in a sensor network has its own challenges due to several factors, both internal and external to the algorithm. Internal factors can relate to the level of computation employed by the algorithm. External factors relate to the constraints of the computing platform within which the algorithm is applied. In this thesis, I set out to investigate these factors and characterize the working of such an algorithm. I present the design, implementation, and evaluation of a Linux-based kernel module, geared towards easy deployment and usage, that supports pulse-coupled time synchronization.

Book Analysis and Design of Quadrature Oscillators

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Quadrature Oscillators written by Luis B. Oliveira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-08 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern RF receivers and transmitters require quadrature oscillators with accurate quadrature and low phase-noise. Existing literature is dedicated mainly to single oscillators, and is strongly biased towards LC oscillators. This book is devoted to quadrature oscillatorsand presents adetailed comparative study ofLC and RCosc- lators, both at architectural and at circuit levels. It is shown that in cross-coupled RC oscillators both the quadrature error and phase-noise are reduced, whereas in LC - cillators the coupling decreases the quadrature error, but increases the phase-noise. Thus, quadrature RC oscillators can be a practical alternative to LC oscillators, - pecially when area and cost are to be minimized. The main topics of the book are: cross-coupled LC quasi-sinusoidal oscillators, cross-coupled RC relaxation oscillators, a quadrature RC oscillator-mixer, and t- integrator oscillators. The effect of mismatches on the phase-error and the pha- noise are thoroughly investigated. The book includes many experimental results, obtained from different integrated circuit prototypes, in the GHz range. A structured design approach is followed: a technology independent study, with ideal blocks, is performed initially, and then the circuit level design is addressed. This book can be used in advanced courses on RF circuit design. In addition to post-graduate students and lecturers, this book will be of interest to design engineers and researchers in this area.
