Book Racing Chassis and Suspension Design

Download or read book Racing Chassis and Suspension Design written by Carroll Smith and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2004-05-21 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hand-selected by racing engineer legend Carroll Smith, the 28 SAE Technical Papers in this book focus on the chassis and suspension design of pure racing cars, an area that has traditionally been - farmed out - to independent designers or firms since the early 1970s. Smith believed that any discussion of vehicle dynamics must begin with a basic understanding of the pneumatic tire, the focus of the first chapter. The racing tire connects the racing car to the track surface by only the footprints of its four tires. Through the tires, the driver receives most of the sensory information needed to maintain or regain control of the race car at high force levels. The second chapter, focusing on suspension design, is an introduction to this complex and fascinating subject. Topics covered include chassis stiffness and flexibility, suspension tuning on the cornering of a Winston Cup race car, suspension kinematics, and vehicle dynamics of road racing cars. Chapter 3 addresses the design of the racing chassis design and how aerodynamics affect the chassis, and the final chapter on materials brings out the fact that the modern racing car utilizes carbon construction to the maximum extent allowed by regulations. These technical papers, written between 1971 and 2003, offer what Smith believed to be the best and most practical nuggets of racing chassis and suspension design information.

Book Frame and Body Design for a Formula Student Racing Vehicle

Download or read book Frame and Body Design for a Formula Student Racing Vehicle written by Jose Manuel Reyes Martin and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aim of this project is to design a frame and a cover for a prototype Formula Student car. Following the championship rules, all the parameters that influence on the design will be controlled trying to get the lighter, toughness and economic car design, but keeping an eye on the execution time. It is necessary to know when it is possible to validate the design of a frame. Then it is very interesting to know the criteria that the car designers use on different competitions. Knowing the aim to achieve, choosing a suitable design tool is very important. The tool chosen will be the Finite Elements Theory. We will use design software, Solid Works. It is a very useful tool because let us to design and check the designs. Currently there is no a specific rules or regulations for a tubular frame design. While for the building construction we can find a lot of regulations, designing the frame that we are studying there is only specific competitions that give preliminary ways of design, just to guarantee minimums of safety. In our case we will follow the FORMULA SAE rules.

Book Chassis Engineering

Download or read book Chassis Engineering written by Herb Adams and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1992-11-19 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In most forms of racing, cornering speed is the key to winning. On the street, precise and predictable handling is the key to high performance driving. However, the art and science of engineering a chassis can be difficult to comprehend, let alone apply. Chassis Engineering explains the complex principles of suspension geometry and chassis design in terms the novice can easily understand and apply to any project. Hundreds of photos and illustrations illustrate what it takes to design, build, and tune the ultimate chassis for maximum cornering power on and off the track.

Book The Science of Vehicle Dynamics

Download or read book The Science of Vehicle Dynamics written by Massimo Guiggiani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-05 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook covers handling and performance of both road and race cars. Mathematical models of vehicles are developed always paying attention to state the relevant assumptions and to provide explanations for each step. This innovative approach provides a deep, yet simple, analysis of the dynamics of vehicles. The reader will soon achieve a clear understanding of the subject, which will be of great help both in dealing with the challenges of designing and testing new vehicles and in tackling new research topics. The book deals with several relevant topics in vehicle dynamics that are not discussed elsewhere and this new edition includes thoroughly revised chapters, with new developments, and many worked exercises. Praise for the previous edition: Great book! It has changed drastically our approach on many topics. We are now using part of its theory on a daily basis to constantly improve ride and handling performances. --- Antonino Pizzuto, Head of Chassis Development Group at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center Astonishingly good! Everything is described in a very compelling and complete way. Some parts use a different approach than other books. --- Andrea Quintarelli, Automotive Engineer

Book The Automotive Chassis

Download or read book The Automotive Chassis written by Giancarlo Genta and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-24 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook draws on the authors’ experience gained by teaching courses for engineering students on e.g. vehicle mechanics, vehicle system design, and chassis design; and on their practical experience as engineering designers for vehicle and chassis components at a major automotive company. The book is primarily intended for students of automotive engineering, but also for all technicians and designers working in this field. Other enthusiastic engineers will also find it to be a useful technical guide. The present volume (The Automotive Chassis – Volume 1: Component Design) focuses on automotive chassis components, such as:• the structure, which is usually a ladder framework and supports all the remaining components of the vehicle;• the suspension for the mechanical linkage of the wheels;• the wheels and tires;• the steering system;• the brake system; and• the transmission system, used to apply engine torque to the driving wheels. This thoroughly revised and updated second edition presents recent developments, particularly in brake, steering, suspension and transmission subsystems. Special emphasis is given to modern control systems and control strategies.
