Book Effective Thermal Conductivity of High Temperature Insulations for Reusable Launch Vehicles

Download or read book Effective Thermal Conductivity of High Temperature Insulations for Reusable Launch Vehicles written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-15 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental apparatus was designed to measure the effective thermal conductivity of various high temperature insulations subject to large temperature gradients representative of typical launch vehicle re-entry aerodynamic heating conditions. The insulation sample cold side was maintained around room temperature, while the hot side was heated to temperatures as high as 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. The environmental pressure was varied from 0.0001 to 760 torr. All the measurements were performed in a dry gaseous nitrogen environment. The effective thermal conductivity of Saffil, Q-Fiber felt, Cerachrome, and three multi-layer insulation configurations were measured.Daryabeigi, KamranLangley Research CenterTHERMAL CONDUCTIVITY; MULTILAYER INSULATION; REUSABLE LAUNCH VEHICLES; REENTRY EFFECTS; THERMAL INSULATION; AERODYNAMIC HEATING; TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS; NITROGEN; THERMAL ANALYSIS; REENTRY SHIELDING; TEMPERATURE EFFECTS

This book was released on 1996-01-22 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key to opening the use of space to private enterprise and to broader public uses lies in reducing the cost of the transportation to space. More routine, affordable access to space will entail aircraft-like quick turnaround and reliable operations. Currently, the space Shuttle is the only reusable launch vehicle, and even parts of it are expendable while other parts require frequent and extensive refurbishment. NASA's highest priority new activity, the Reusable Launch Vehicle program, is directed toward developing technologies to enable a new generation of space launchers, perhaps but not necessarily with single stage to orbit capability. This book assesses whether the technology development, test and analysis programs in propulsion and materials-related technologies are properly constituted to provide the information required to support a December 1996 decision to build the X-33, a technology demonstrator vehicle; and suggest, as appropriate, necessary changes in these programs to ensure that they will support vehicle feasibility goals.

Book Nearly Zero Energy Building Refurbishment

Download or read book Nearly Zero Energy Building Refurbishment written by Fernando Pacheco Torgal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on 19 May 2010. For new buildings, the recast fixes 2020 as the deadline for all new buildings to be “nearly zero energy” (and even sooner for public buildings – by the end of 2018). This book gives practitioner an important tool to tackle the challenges of building refurbishment towards nearly zero energy. This book is welcome at this time and sets the scene for professionals whether practitioners or researchers to learn more about how we can make whether old or new buildings more efficient and effective in terms of energy performance.

Book Fibrous and Composite Materials for Civil Engineering Applications

Download or read book Fibrous and Composite Materials for Civil Engineering Applications written by R Fangueiro and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-19 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of fibrous materials in civil engineering, both as structural reinforcement and in non-structural applications such as geotextiles, is an important and interesting development. Fibrous and composite materials for civil engineering applications analyses the types and properties of fibrous textile and structures and their applications in reinforcement and civil engineering. Part one introduces different types of fibrous textiles and structures. Chapters cover the properties of natural and man-made fibres and of yarns, as well as an overview of textile structures. Part two focuses on fibrous material use in concrete reinforcement, with chapters on the properties and applications of steel fibre reinforced concrete, natural fibre reinforced concrete and the role of fibre reinforcement in mitigating shrinkage cracks. In part three, the applications of fibrous material-based composites in civil engineering are covered. Chapters concentrate on production techniques and applications such as reinforcement of internal structures, structural health monitoring and textile materials in architectural membranes. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Fibrous and composite materials for civil engineering applications is a standard reference for fabric and composite manufacturers, civil engineers and professionals, as well as academics with a research interest in this field. Explores the development of fibrous materials in civil engineering, both as structural reinforcement and in non-structural applications such as geotextiles Key topics include short fibre reinforced concrete, natural fibre reinforced concrete and high performance fibre reinforced cementitious composites A standard reference for fabric and composite manufacturers, civil engineers and professionals, as well as academics with a research interest in this field
