Book Design of an Outlet for Box Inlet Drop Spillway Classic Reprint

Download or read book Design of an Outlet for Box Inlet Drop Spillway Classic Reprint written by Charles A. Donnelly and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-26 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Design of an Outlet for Box Inlet Drop Spillway The outlet as designed in the past could more properly be called an apron, with the floor set at the grade of the downstream channel. The water leaves the apron at a high velocity, causing a horizontal whirling action of the water on each side of the channel. These whirls result in severe scour of the dam fill and the stream bed at the end of the apron. Outlets of this type have failed; two typical failures are shown in figure 1. Download or read book Hydraulic Design of the Box Inlet Drop Spillway Classic Reprint written by Fred W. Blaisdell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hydraulic Design of the Box Inlet Drop Spillway This paper contains sufficient information to permit the complete hydraulic design of a box inlet drop Spillway and explains briefly the various factors that influence the de sign. Its four major sections deal with the free flow capacity, the outlet design, the sub merged flow capacity, and the utilization of the preceding information in the design of box inlet drop spillways. The box inlet drop Spillway may be described as a rectangular box open at the top and at the downstream end. The Spillway is shown in figure 1. Storm runoff is directed to the box by dikes and headwalls, enters over the upstream end and two sides, and leaves through the Open downstream end. An outlet structure is attached to the down stream end of the box. The long crest of the box inlet permits large flows to pass over it with relatively low heads. Yet the width of the Spillway need be no greater than that of the exit channel. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Comparison of Chute and Stilling Basin Performance for Three Different Drop Box Inlets Classic Reprint

Download or read book Comparison of Chute and Stilling Basin Performance for Three Different Drop Box Inlets Classic Reprint written by W. O. Ree and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparison of Chute and Stilling Basin Performance for Three Different Drop Box Inlets Three different drop (entrance box) inlets were tested and compared to determine their influence on the performance of a chute spillway and a stilling basin at the outlet of the chute. Test results indicated that the steep and level entrance boxes did not affect the performance of the spillway and stilling basin differently than did the deep (original design) entrance box. Upstream pool levels, wave heights along the chute walls, and scour depths in the downstream channel were alike for the three entrance boxes. An advantage of the steep entrance box was a smaller associated uplift force. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Low Volume Roads Engineering Best Management Practices Field Guide

Download or read book Low Volume Roads Engineering Best Management Practices Field Guide written by Gordon Keller and published by . This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Low-Volume Roads Engineering Best Management Practices Field Guide is intended to provide an overview of the key planning, location, design, construction, and maintenance aspects of roads that can cause adverse environmental impacts and to list key ways to prevent those impacts. Best Management Practices are general techniques or design practices that, when applied and adapted to fit site-specific conditions, will prevent or reduce pollution and maintain water quality. BMPs for roads have been developed by many agencies since roads often have a major adverse impact on water quality, and most of those impacts are preventable with good engineering and management practices. Roads that are not well planned or located, not properly designed or constructed, not well maintained, or not made with durable materials often have negative effects on water quality and the environment.
