Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Options for Remote Monitoring and Control of Small Drinking Water Facilities

Download or read book Options for Remote Monitoring and Control of Small Drinking Water Facilities written by Albert J. Pollack and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides information to select, design, and implement remote telemetry supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for use with various water treatment systems. The book also contains information on the sensitivity and reliability of various techniques for remote monitoring and control as well as transmittance and receiving of electronic information. The book will be especially valuable to those responsible for the approximately 190,000 small drinking water treatment systems throughout the United States. Communities being served by small treatment systems often do not have the resources to support qualified operators for their systems. Options outlined in the book for remote monitoring and control provide a mechanism for individuals to understand, select, design, and evaluate emerging technologies in water quality monitoring, process control, data acquisition, and data transmitting/receiving. Implementing selected options could significantly reduce the cost of operating a treatment system, thereby bringing safe drinking water within reach of small communities. In addition to the in-depth discussion of water quality and remote monitoring technologies, the book includes information on water quality regulations and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) devices for water quality monitoring, process control, data acquisition, and data transmitting/receiving.

Book Data Acquisition Systems

Download or read book Data Acquisition Systems written by Maurizio Di Paolo Emilio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fundamentals of data acquisition systems, how they enable users to sample signals that measure real physical conditions and convert the resulting samples into digital, numeric values that can be analyzed by a computer. The author takes a problem-solving approach to data acquisition, providing the tools engineers need to use the concepts introduced. Coverage includes sensors that convert physical parameters to electrical signals, signal conditioning circuitry to convert sensor signals into a form that can be converted to digital values and analog-to-digital converters, which convert conditioned sensor signals to digital values. Readers will benefit from the hands-on approach, culminating with data acquisition projects, including hardware and software needed to build data acquisition systems.

Book Development and Implementation of a Low cost Data Acquisition System Using Single board Computers to Measure Volumetric Water Content

Download or read book Development and Implementation of a Low cost Data Acquisition System Using Single board Computers to Measure Volumetric Water Content written by Mohamad Idaly Bin Ali and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work described in this thesis is aimed at exploring the use of single-board computers, specifically the Raspberry Pi platform, to measure volumetric water content of soils or other porous media. We first investigated the different methods to condition and measure signal frequencies. Subsequently, we designed and fabricated a Hardware Attached on Top frequency counter add-on board for the Raspberry Pi based on the reciprocal frequency counting method, and found that this accurately and precisely measures frequency signals from water content reflectometers. We then built a dormant deploy-and-forget sensor system around this hardware. The system will be used at our research field site in Brunei Darussalam to measure volumetric water content of peat. Further work focuses on improvements to the encapsulation of the electronic hardware, and designing a multiplexer-controlled relay board to acquire signals from multiple reflectometers simultaneously.

Book Design and Testing of a Prototype High Speed Data Acquisition System for NASA

Download or read book Design and Testing of a Prototype High Speed Data Acquisition System for NASA written by Vishwas T. Vijayendra and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern radar and signal processing applications require data acquisition systems capable of high-speed analog data reception and processing. These systems need to support sophisticated signal processing algorithms and reliable high-speed interfaces. The objective of this project is to develop a prototype of a state of the art data acquisition system to aid NASA's Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission. The SWOT mission aims at monitoring water levels of various water bodies to predict and avoid any catastrophic events. The principal instrument is a Ka-band Radar Interferometer (KaRIN) that is used for the measurement of water levels. The collected data need to be digitized and processed using an FPGA based-data acquisition system housed in a satellite. The scope of this project involves the design, implementation and test of a high-speed printed circuit board (PCB) that serves as the prototype data acquisition system. A lot of emphasis is placed on layout design, as the PCB needs to support data rates up to three Giga samples per second. The goal of this research is to provide Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), NASA with a prototype version of the high-speed acquisition system that can be integrated with the KaRIN system in future.
