Book Design and Optimization of PV Wind Hybrid Power System for Remote Telecommunication Station

Download or read book Design and Optimization of PV Wind Hybrid Power System for Remote Telecommunication Station written by Tunku Muhammad Nizar Tunku Mansur and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this thesis is to design and optimization of a feasible solution for a solar and wind hybrid power system for remote telecommunication station. The conventional telecommunication station required high power to operate the communication devices. Because of the limited or no power supply at the remote or rural area, the station cannot be installed and there will be no networking on that area. Therefore it is a need to expand the network coverage to the rural or remote area to boost the economic and attract the visitors. In order to provide the service, the communication devices must consumed very low power so that it could operate by the renewable source. In this project, the communication devices that consumed low power will be used to design the hybrid power system for the telecommunication station. With HOMER, the design could be simulated and analysis can be made on the most feasible solution available based on the data provided. The main focus of this project is the design and optimization of the hybrid power system based on the telecommunication station loads. Thus the all steps in designing have been done including site assessment, load analysis, design and sizing the system and cost analysis. The results are then verified by using HOMER.

Book Designing of a Pv Wind Diesel Hybrid Energy System

Download or read book Designing of a Pv Wind Diesel Hybrid Energy System written by Ali Mubarak and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PV/Wind/Diesel Hybrid Energy Systems are used for energy supply in remote areas. Depending on the geographical and meteorological situation as well as on the load profile specific hybrid energy system designs are the best and most cost efficient solution. Typically, these systems are used in regions where the costs for a grid connection are too high due to the remote necessaries. The advantage of these systems is that it is possible to design them very flexible and adjust them to the concrete demands. On the other hand, they represent a complex system thus requiring some effort in planning and design. The proposed system is intended to supply a small living complex in a remote area in Khartoum (Sudan). The aim is to find the best system configuration and to what extent the combination of these two renewable energy sources can reduce the costs compared to a grid-connected system. The system has been evaluated and optimized with the assistance of the simulation tool HOMER developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Colorado, USA.

Book Designing of a PV Wind Diesel Hybrid Energy System

Download or read book Designing of a PV Wind Diesel Hybrid Energy System written by Ali Mubarak and published by . This book was released on 2017-05-19 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an original study, where I designed an Energy Power System combining 2 Renewable Energy Sources (Sun and Wind) with a stand-by Diesel engine to electrify a small living compound in a remote location in Sudan (Africa). In this design the initial system cost was 31,250 $ which considered a small fraction from the cost of erecting the HV transmission lines which according to Sudanese Ministry of Energy and Mining might cost 30,000 $ for each 1 Km, while some rural communities in remote areas can be a hundreds kilometers away from the national grid. The huge cost of building a distribution substation should be also considered. I hope it will be beneficial for researchers and students and a quick reference in its field.

Book Optimization of Wind solar Energy Systems Using Low Wind Speed Turbines to Improve Rural Electrification

Download or read book Optimization of Wind solar Energy Systems Using Low Wind Speed Turbines to Improve Rural Electrification written by Umarin Sangpanich and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electricity is significant in improving the quality of life for people in rural and remote areas in developing countries. There are two main options for Rural Electrification (RE), namely grid extension and stand-alone systems. The governments and developers face the challenges of their limitations, namely technical, economic and environmental effects of each RE choice. This thesis intends to improve RE by focusing on renewable energy technologies, namely Wind Turbine (WT) and Photovoltaic (PV) systems. They have been developed and applied to RE because they are simple and environmentally friendly. They can be installed as separate units and they are sustainable alternative energy solutions. Installation, cost and performance are crucial issues of WT and PV applications, and are based on the terrain and climate where the renewable are installed. The efficiency of WTs and PV modules has increased, while their cost has declined continuously. However, a PV system still has installation costs around two times more expensive per watt than WTs. Most WTs using current technology can be financially worthwhile for high wind speed areas, having wind speeds greater than 6.4 m/s at 10 m hub height, but most rural areas have wind speeds of less than 6 m/s at the same height. Therefore, Low Wind Speed Turbines (LWSTs) have evolved, by increasing rotor diameter and while maintaining similar generator capacity. This is to reduce Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) for WTs in low wind speed areas. This thesis proposes simple cost models, namely the Sum-component cost model and the Total-cost model in order to calculate the LCOE of LWSTs. In addition, novel aspects of this thesis are that the optimization processes of stand-alone hybrid WT-PV systems and hybrid WT-PV systems using batteries at peak demand in remote area power systems provide simple, fast and flexible methods, by applying Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA). The MOEA can analyze complex objective problems and provide an accurate multi-objective method. Results from relevant case studies show that the cost models and the optimization processes proposed are novel and are valuable tools for analysis and design, including the approaches for improving the system reliability and for estimating the Initial Capital Cost (ICC) of WTs having different rated wind speeds. The proposed algorithms are generic and can be utilized for other energy planning problems.
