This book was released on 1980 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dept. of Ocean Engineering at M.I.T. has been involved with the production of a robot submarine since the Summer of 1975. A first generation submarine was built, tested and was used for two years before a second generation design was begun. The second generation design was considerably more ambitious than the first, but the design was essentially finished by the Spring of 1979. Development work for the submarine and the production of actual hardware was begun in the Summer of 1979 and was pursued by two separate paths - the electronic systems and the mechanical systems. This thesis describes the mechanical systems development.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1982-02-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing. house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 25 (thesis year 1980) a total of 10,308 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 214 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 25 reports theses submitted in 1980, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Download or read book Designing of Submersible Robot written by Saalik Javed and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Submersible robots are presently being employed for scientific research, sea exploration, military and commercial underwater applications. These robotics can be employed in lakes and ponds for weather research and also for monitoring water for agriculture purposes. This notion is apprehensive with the design and development of a submersible robot explicitly envisioned for development and progress in wet robotics especially in Pakistan. The notion entails of two phases; the first involves the design and construction of the robot which should be hydro dynamically stable while the second phase is concerned with the modeling of the submersible robot. The design and improvement of the submersible robot involved of employing mechanical and electrical system. The development of these schemes has resulted in a low-speed, moderate weight, simple structure underwater robot that shows well symmetry, stability and modularity. This theory will sure help in understanding the underwater robotics for beginners.

Book Concepts in Submarine Design

Download or read book Concepts in Submarine Design written by Roy Burcher and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-10-27 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the many engineering and architectural aspects of submarine design and how they relate to each other and the operational performance required of the vessel. Concepts of hydrodynamics, structure, powering and dynamics are explained, in addition to architectural considerations which bear on the submarine design process. The interplay between these aspects of design is given particular attention, and a final chapter is devoted to the generation of the concept design for the submarine as a whole. Submarine design makes extensive use of computer aids, and examples of algorithms used in concept design are given. The emphasis in the book is on providing engineering insight as well as an understanding of the intricacies of the submarine design process. It will serve as a text for students and as a reference manual for practising engineers and designers.

Book Robot Oriented Design

  • ISBN : 1107076382
  • Pages : 309 pages

Download or read book Robot Oriented Design written by Thomas Bock and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cambridge Handbooks on Construction Robotics series focuses on the implementation of automation and robot technology to renew the construction industry and to arrest its declining productivity. The series is intended to give professionals, researchers, lecturers, and students basic conceptual and technical skills and implementation strategies to manage, research, or teach the implementation of advanced automation and robot-technology-based processes and technologies in construction. Currently, the implementation of modern developments in product structures (modularity and design for manufacturing), organizational strategies (just in time, just in sequence, and pulling production), and informational aspects (computer-aided design/manufacturing or computer-integrated manufacturing) are lagging because of the lack of modern integrated machine technology in construction. The Cambridge Handbooks on Construction Robotics books discuss progress in robot systems theory and demonstrate their integration using real systematic applications and projections for off-site as well as on-site building production. Robot-Oriented Design and Management introduces the design, innovation, and management methodologies that are key to the realization and implementation of the advanced concepts and technologies presented in the subsequent volumes. This book describes the efficient deployment of advanced construction and building technology. It is concerned with the coadaptation of construction products, processes, organization, and management, and with automated/robotic technology, so that the implementation of modern technology becomes easier and more efficient. It is also concerned with technology and innovation management methodologies and the generation of life cycle-oriented views related to the use of advanced technologies in construction.

Book Biologically Inspired Robotics

Download or read book Biologically Inspired Robotics written by Yunhui Liu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-12-21 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robotic engineering inspired by biology—biomimetics—has many potential applications: robot snakes can be used for rescue operations in disasters, snake-like endoscopes can be used in medical diagnosis, and artificial muscles can replace damaged muscles to recover the motor functions of human limbs. Conversely, the application of robotics technology to our understanding of biological systems and behaviors—biorobotic modeling and analysis—provides unique research opportunities: robotic manipulation technology with optical tweezers can be used to study the cell mechanics of human red blood cells, a surface electromyography sensing system can help us identify the relation between muscle forces and hand movements, and mathematical models of brain circuitry may help us understand how the cerebellum achieves movement control. Biologically Inspired Robotics contains cutting-edge material—considerably expanded and with additional analysis—from the 2009 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO). These 16 chapters cover both biomimetics and biorobotic modeling/analysis, taking readers through an exploration of biologically inspired robot design and control, micro/nano bio-robotic systems, biological measurement and actuation, and applications of robotics technology to biological problems. Contributors examine a wide range of topics, including: A method for controlling the motion of a robotic snake The design of a bionic fitness cycle inspired by the jaguar The use of autonomous robotic fish to detect pollution A noninvasive brain-activity scanning method using a hybrid sensor A rehabilitation system for recovering motor function in human hands after injury Human-like robotic eye and head movements in human–machine interactions A state-of-the-art resource for graduate students and researchers in the fields of control engineering, robotics, and biomedical engineering, this text helps readers understand the technology and principles in this emerging field.

Book Rex 2

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dylan Owens
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 122 pages

Download or read book Rex 2 written by Dylan Owens and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practical usage of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) is limited by vehicle and operation cost, difficulty in accurate navigation, and communication between the vehicle and operator. The "Rex 2" UUV employs a system design where a submersible is connected to a float at the water's surface by means of a tether. By maintaining a surface expression, high-bandwidth radio communication to the operator becomes possible, and GPS may be used for accurate navigation. This arrangement allows the freedom of movement characteristic of untethered autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), while maintaining the live operator control and communication found with tethered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Expanding on the design and field experiences with the MIT AUV Lab's first Reef Explorer UUV, Rex 2 was designed to be inexpensive, easy to deploy, adaptable to various payloads, and simple to use. Rex 2 was designed, built, and operated in a number of ocean field tests, validating the utility of the vehicle and system concept.
