Book excerpt: Excerpt from Denman Family History: From the Earliest Authentic Records Down to the Present Time The denman book does not attempt to give records of all Denmans, though it is well understood that all persons bearing that name have descended from the same kind of source, - from some Dane-man. There are many in England and Canada, and in the United States whom we cannot reach; and of many others we find only such fragments of records as are of little practical value. No records are here presented which do not definitely lead from a particular ancestor. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Country Joe and Me is about a rock-folk icon and a San Francisco public school teacher. A long time ago Country Joe McDonald and his Navy pal Ron Cabral had an idea to write a book about the story of their lives. They met in 1960 while serving in the U.S. Navy as 18-year old sailors at Atsugi, Japan. Follow their interactions over several decades a roller coaster ride of shared experiences in the military, education and music. Told by Cabral from the perspective of "ground zero" it offers a unique look at the emergence of Country Joe and the cultural, political, and musical revolution that blossomed in San Francisco and Berkeley during the late 60's and early 70's-- There are chapters on Country Joe and The Fish, Janis Joplin and Joe's brief love affair with her. Go behind the scenes with Bill Graham and Jerry Garcia during "Summerland" - a very special project for high school students initiated by Country Joe while he was a volunteer teacher in Ron's school called Opportunity High. Also included are the lyrics to some of Country Joe's most important songs, memorabilia, rare photos, a discography and a lot more-- There is a special Afterword by Country Joe on his role with the Vietnam Vets over the years. A must read for every Country Joe fan. This is the only book currently available on Country Joe. For more information on Country Joe see www.countryjoe.com.

Book Flying beyond the stall

Download or read book Flying beyond the stall written by Douglas A. Joyce and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The X-31 Enhanced Fighter Maneuverability Demonstrator was unique among experimental aircraft. A joint effort of the United States and Germany, the X-31 was the only X-plane to be designed, manufactured, and flight tested as an international collaboration. It was also the only X-plane to support two separate test programs conducted years apart, one administered largely by NASA and the other by the U.S. Navy, as well as the first X-plane ever to perform at the Paris Air Show. Flying Beyond the Stall begins by describing the government agencies and private-sector industries involved in the X-31 program, the genesis of the supermaneuverability concept and its initial design breakthroughs, design and fabrication of two test airframes, preparation for the X-31's first flight, and the first flights of Ship #1 and Ship #2. Subsequent chapters discuss envelope expansion, handling qualities (especially at high angles of attack), and flight with vectored thrust. The book then turns to the program's move to NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center and actual flight test data. Additional tasking, such as helmet-mounted display evaluations, handling quality studies, aerodynamic parameter estimation, and a "tailless" study are also discussed. The book describes how, in the aftermath of a disastrous accident with Ship #1 in 1995, Ship #2 was prepared for its outstanding participation in the Paris Air Show. The aircraft was then shipped back to Edwards AFB and put into storage until the late 1990s, when it was refurbished for participation in the U. S. Navy's VECTOR program. The book ends with a comprehensive discussion of lessons learned and includes an Appendix containing detailed information.
