Während die Menschen in der Ukraine einen Heroismus zeigen, der uns fremd geworden ist, fragen wir uns, was uns das Leben in der Demokratie wert ist? Felix Heidenreich zeigt in seinem Buch vor, dass die demokratische Selbstregierung immer auch eine Zumutung war. Dabei geht es nicht nur um die einfache Erfüllung von Pflichten.
