Book Defense Transportation Organization

Download or read book Defense Transportation Organization written by Marshall E. Daniel and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategic mobility is crucial to our capability to provide a credible conventional deterrent to infringements on our worldwide interests. It is the key to a major element of our defense policy -- the firm commitment to timely deployment of combat forces and suporting equipment to Europe to counter a Warsaw Pact threat against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The inability of planners to count on clear-cut and unambiguous indications of Warsaw Pact preparations for attack compound the already serious problems of resupply and reinforcement in the NATO arena. This is a discussion of our defense transportation system that current capabilities and organizations may not be sufficient to meet likely strategic deployment requirements for either long or short war senarios. Future conflicts may well involve an increase in the tempo of warfare, with resulting increases in the consumption of war-fighting materials, placing even greater demands on the transportation resources that make up the strategic mobility capability.

Book Strategic Mobility and the Transforming Army

Download or read book Strategic Mobility and the Transforming Army written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this monograph is to answer the research question: Will the current and programmed Department of Defense Transportation System (DTS) support the strategic responsiveness requirements of the U.S. Army during the initial phase of transformation. The answer to this question is significant because the U.S. Army is undergoing a transformation to become more strategically responsive. A measure of Army responsiveness is dependent on its ability to rapidly deploy. The Army will only deploy as quickly as the DTS is capable of moving it units and equipment.

Book Seapower in the Nuclear Age

Download or read book Seapower in the Nuclear Age written by Joel J. Sokolsky and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-01-26 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1991, provides a major analysis of the prelude to the US’s Cold War maritime strategy, showing how NATO’s maritime forces were organised in the period. It examines how the United States Navy and allied navies, particularly the Royal Navy, were incorporated into the Alliance’s nuclear and conventional deterrent forces. It looks at the structure of the main naval commands, the growth of Soviet maritime forces and the impact of the flexible response strategy on NATO’s naval posture in the 1970s. Drawing upon many declassified documents, this account fills an important gap in postwar literature on American seapower and its relation to European security. It also addresses important aspects of NATO strategy and organisation.
