Download or read book Deduka a tale of one mind and two times written by Anna Scola and published by Writers Republic LLC. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My grandfather grew up in a small Russian village, before moving to Moscow to become a linguist and journalist. He was posted to Singapore in 1971 as a Chinese-speaking journalist to help establish Soviet-Singapore relations. Coming as an expatriate, but leaving as a local through humble explorations of the young nation-state, my grandfather truly fell in love with Singapore. Two generations later, I grow up between Russia and Singapore, living a parallel life to the one of my grandfather's. I write about my own experiences as the mirror image I am of him, despite the years apart. Deduka is a photo essay narrating a friendship between my grandfather and me as we oscillate between our two homes. Separated by forty years of urban development, yet connected by our artistic dispositions, we witness this life through art and poetry.

Book Secrets Of My Past Keeping Me from the Future

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book or autobiography is about the secrets of my life that I feel are holding me back from whatever my purpose is. People know me, but they do not know me because I could not say things. I feel some of these actions have burdened me with no cause and I want to talk about it. I chose to write my book on Valentine's Day because the saying is that Love conquers all. I hear it a lot, but it does not look like love until I felt it. I let it go because I had secrets and no one else was happy for me. Before I can love anybody or can believe in it, I must be honest about myself if I am supposed to let go. These are just pieces of my truths in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Conflicting desires of wanting the freedom yet longing for the protection and safety the walls provided. Creating wonderful opportunities for her children yet fearing their independence. A reminder that change cannot be forced unless one is ready to accept it. Change is possible and that the desire to be free eventually does win even if it takes a few generations to bring the change about.

Book Divine Mother Blessed Mother

Download or read book Divine Mother Blessed Mother written by Francis X. Clooney and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 2005 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Virgin Mary has long been the object of both devotional and scholarly interest, and recent years have seen a proliferation of studies on Hindu goddess-worship traditions. Despite the parallels between the two, however, no one has yet undertaken a book-length comparison of these traditions. In Divine Mother, Blessed Mother, Francis Clooney offers the first extended comparative study of Hindu goddesses and the Virgin Mary. Clooney is almost unique in the field of Hindu studies as a Christian theologian with the linguistic and philosophical expertise necessary to produce sophisticated comparative analyses. Building on his previous work in comparative theology, he sheds new light not only on these individual traditions but also on the nature of gender and the divine.

Download or read book Dev written by John Stratton Hawley and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publ.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have severely limited the portrayal of the divine as feminine. But in Hinduism "God" very often means "Goddess." This extraordinary collection explores twelve different Hindu goddesses, all of whom are in some way related to Devi, the Great Goddess. They range from the liquid goddess-energy of the River Ganges to the possessing, entrancing heat of Bhagavati and Seranvali. They are local, like Vindhyavasini, and global, like Kali; ancient, like Saranyu, and modern, like "Mother India." The collection combines analysis of texts with intensive fieldwork, allowing the reader to see how goddesses are worshiped in everyday life. In these compelling essays, the divine feminine in Hinduism is revealed as never before--fascinating, contradictory, powerful.

Book A Survey of Hinduism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Klaus K. Klostermaier
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 2010-03-10
  • ISBN : 0791480119
  • Pages : 720 pages

Download or read book A Survey of Hinduism written by Klaus K. Klostermaier and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of the classic text updates the information contained in the earlier editions, and includes new chapters on the origins of Hinduism; its history of relations with Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam; Hindu science; and Hindu measures of time. The chronology and the bibliography have been updated as well. A comprehensive survey of the Hindu tradition, the book deals with the history of Hinduism, the sacred writings of the Hindus, the Hindu worldview, and the specifics of the major branches of Hinduism—Vaisnavism, Saivism, and Saktism. It also focuses on the geographical ties of Hinduism with the land of India, the social order created by Hinduism, and the various systems of Hindu thought. Klaus K. Klostermaier describes the development of Hinduism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including present-day political Hinduism and the efforts to turn Hinduism into a modern world religion. A unique feature of the book is its treatment of Hinduism in a topical fashion, rather than by chronological description of the development of Hinduism or by summary of the literature. The complexities of Hindu life and thought are thus made real to the reader, and Hindus will recognize it as their own tradition.

Book One God Two Goddesses Three Studies of South Indian Cosmology

Download or read book One God Two Goddesses Three Studies of South Indian Cosmology written by Don Handelman and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-09-25 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One, God, Two Goddesses presents three studies, one of Tamil myths of the god Murugan and two of goddess rituals: Gangamma in Tirupati and Paiditalli in Vizianagaram, both in Andhra Pradesh. All three essays search for lineaments of the cosmos that these deities inhabit and shape. These cosmoi are characterised by the dynamism of their incessant interior movement. Should they become still, they would die. Deities activate and regenerate such a cosmos. The dynamism of Murugan’s cosmos eliminates the chaotic. Through ritual, Gangamma regenerates her cosmos through feminising it. Through ritual, Paiditalli annually re-grows the historic little kingdom of Vizianagaram, regenerating its kingship. All three studies point to the need to rethink cosmology in South India.
