Book Status of the Black throated Green Warbler in British Columbia

Download or read book Status of the Black throated Green Warbler in British Columbia written by John Morton Cooper and published by Wildlife Branch. This book was released on 1997 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The black-throated green warbler (Dendroica virens) is an uncommon, forest-interior, neotropical migrant songbird that is restricted in British Columbia to the taiga plains and boreal plains ecoprovinces. Because of its small population and restricted distribution, the species is listed as vulnerable or sensitive. This report describes the general biology of this warbler, its habitat and distribution, population size and trends, legal protection status, factors limiting growth and spreading of the warbler population, and the special significance of the species in British Columbia. The report concludes with recommendations and management options to protect the province's black-throated green warbler population.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tree by Tree is a warning and a toolkit for the future of forest recovery. Scott J. Meiners investigates the critical biological threats endangering tree species native to the forests of eastern North America, providing a needed focus on this plight. Meiners suggests that if we are to save our forests, the first step is to recognize the threats in front of us. Meiners focuses on five familiar trees—the American elm, the American chestnut, the eastern hemlock, the white ash, and the sugar maple—and shares why they matter economically, ecologically, and culturally. From outbreaks of Dutch elm disease to infestations of emerald ash borers, Meiners highlights the challenges that have led or will lead to the disappearance of these trees from forests. In doing so, he shows us how diversity loss often disrupts intricately balanced ecosystems and how vital it is that we pay more attention to massive changes in forest composition. With practical steps for the conservation of native tree species, Tree by Tree offers the inspiration and insights we need to begin saving our forests.

This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a body, these records are extracted from roughly 750 known Bibles and extend from the late 18th through the early 20th centuries, with the greatest concentration from the mid-19th century. Most of the entries refer to births, marriages, and deaths and in most cases indicate the name(s) of the principals, the date of the event, and, sometimes, such supplementary information as his/her age or address, the maiden name of a parent, etc. Each Bible record is identified by family name and followed by a reference to the Huguenot Society records where the original can be found. In all, the records refer to more than 2,500 main families named in the surname index at the back of the volume and embrace a staggering 25,000 individuals of Huguenot or possible Huguenot ancestry--connections and allied families that would otherwise be lost to us in the unpublished files of this august organization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nebraska sits at the nexus of continental bird migration and serves as a home?either permanently or seasonally?for nearly 450 species. Major migratory routes pass through the state, creating numerous opportunities to observe the great variety of North American bird species. The annual crane migrations in spring are legendary, and other key events include winter concentrations of bald eagles, flocks of up to thirty thousand grebes, mergansers, and gulls at Lake McConaughy in late fall, and incredible concentrations of waterfowl in the Rainwater Basin in early spring.øBirds of Nebraska captures the variety of Nebraska's ornithological possibilities in a style useful to hobbyists and professionals alike. For the first time in Nebraska ornithology, the authors have provided an exhaustive summary of state bird records compiled into concise but readable accounts of all species of birds reported in the state. This work covers taxonomy, early and late migration dates, high counts, nesting areas, and likely viewing locations.
