Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parenting young children is a challenge, and dealing with difficult or problem behavior can set up an atmosphere of tension and strife—not just between the child and the parents, but between parents as well. Parenting Difficult Children provides a method of removing that tension with specific strategies for parents of children age three to twelve who are exhibiting difficult or common negative behaviors. Here, a seasoned psychologist uses the expertise he’s attained through decades of clinical practice to provide parents with a practical and realistic approach to dealing with young children in order to extinguish negative behaviors and forge a stronger and more loving bond between parent and child. Using stories from his practice, coupled with the received knowledge of his field, he explores those actions and behaviors that result in more disciplined children, and happier families. Part one includes specific instruction on building a secure foundation of rules, discipline methods, communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and reinforcers for positive, desired behavior. Part two focuses on problem behaviors and what to do about them. Millions of parents of young children around the world crave detailed, specific, behavioral interventions that can be easily understood and applied to ensure great parenting success. Book The Sociology of Deviance

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert J. Franzese
  • Publisher : Charles C Thomas Publisher
  • Release : 2015-08-11
  • ISBN : 0398090807
  • Pages : 401 pages

Download or read book The Sociology of Deviance written by Robert J. Franzese and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely second edition remains essentially the same in overall organization and chapter layout and titles. New to the book is updated data and facts from empirical research and government and agency reports. Some information in some chapters was retained from the first edition if it was deemed still relevant and interesting. The definition of deviance has been modified to be more in line with standard understandings of the term which frequently describe deviance as violations of social norms. The word “differences” remains part of the definition and implies differences in attitudes, lifestyles, values, and choices that exist among individuals and groups in society. The concept of deviance is no longer treated as a label in itself, also placing the definition of the term more in alignment with its standard usage. The title of the book remains the same and “tradition” still implies the book covers areas that have long been addressed in deviance texts such as addictions, crime, and sexual behaviors, to name a few. The term “stigma” is retained for two reasons: it is in honor of Erving Goffman, a giant in the discipline of sociology who offered much to the study of differences, and it is used to accentuate the importance of societal reaction in a heterogeneous society. In this updated edition, every attempt has been made to respond to input from colleagues and students concerning text content and writing style. Chapters still include “In Recognition” or comments that honor scholars whose research and professional interests are related to the chapters under study. Effective case studies are again included in the chapters. Considerable effort went into decisions of what was to be added, changed, maintained, and deleted from the first edition, resulting in meaningful modifications throughout the book.

They might also admit that at times they experience frustration, anger and even disappointment because of disobedience and a lack of cooperation from their children. Parenting is (Not) Child’s Play deals with the ‘Special Play Time’ method, a revolutionary and proven tool that empowers both parents and children. During a 40-minute weekly play session, parents learn, not only clear and practical skills in setting boundaries, they also gain a deeper understanding of the emotions and worries of their children. They discover how to encourage positive behaviour, too and thus increase the self-esteem of their children. Within a short time, parents notice positive changes in the home. While enjoying mutual fun and play, they regain their parental authority and notice an increase in the emotional and social abilities of their children. Orit Josefi Wiseman is a non-directive play therapist with an M.A. from the University of York in the United Kingdom. She has a clinic in Israel and has rich and extensive experience with parents and children using this method. She has also established trainings for families and professionals in the field of education in order for them to improve their communication with and empower the psychological robustness of children. During her work, Orit has met many parents who have learnt parental skills but could not implement them in real time. Her book is written for all those parents. How can we prevent another Columbine school shooting from occurring? How should pornography on the internet be regulated? The Handbook of Children, Culture and Violence addresses these questions and more, providing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary examination of childhood violence that considers children as both consumers and perpetrators of violence, as well as victims of it. The Handbook offers much-needed empirical evidence that will help inform debate about these important policy decisions. Moreover, it is the first single volume to consider situations when children are responsible for violence, rather than focusing exclusively on occasions when they are victimized. Providing the first comprehensive overview of current research in the field, the editors have brought together the work of a group of prominent scholars whose work is united by a common concern for the impact of violence on the lives of children. The Handbook of Children, Culture and Violence is poised to become the ultimate resource and reference work on children and violence for researchers, teachers, and students of psychology, human development and family studies, law, communications, education, sociology, and political science/ public policy. It will also appeal to policymakers, media professionals, and special interest groups concerned with reducing violence in children's lives. Law firms specializing in family law, as well as think tanks, will also be interested in the Handbook.
