Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To understand the shifting emotions human beings go through daily, regarding any and all relationships to family, friends, lovers, acquaintances and strangers (ourselves included), each of us needs to continue to evolve and to become educated while living creatively in a stressful society and world. My original purpose was to match a different animal and subject for every day of the year. As it turned out, some months have more entries than others; but, none is less than a month without Sundays and/or weekends. Often, true benefit only takes place when the self who feels victimized expresses emotions on paper (i.e. in form of a missive to someone else) to comprehend whatever may be bothering the letter-writer. But, these letters aren't intended to be sent; they are private. Instead, consider this volume a way and means to comfort and/or offer a solution or resolution to a troubling issue. For, only by appreciating ourselves can we totally fathom others before ultimately caring about humanity at-large, enough to accept and tolerate, eventually love each other's distinct uniqueness in this vast universe still striving for peace and harmony. Writing letters has become a dying art. So too comprehending the significance of all creatures to balance our environment that is dependent on survival of on animals and insects. Perhaps you won't be able to resist sending one or two missives to the right or wrong person. That's up to you. I offer Creature Comforts with the genuine hope that you may realize every creature on earth has a purpose. (From the Author's Introduction dated Jan. 21, 2008)

In a time when only a select few are prosperous, A Sybil Society paints a portrait of the present moment and unveils a restless truth. The collection is fearless in the face of convention and gives readers a sense of devastating sorrow in a world gone mad.
Download or read book Her Reason for Being written by Susan Crossett Dilks and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-08-06 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 1899. A man has been shot. His senseless death is of as little concern to us as was his equally irrelevant life. It is the shooter to whom we must turn our attention. More specifically, to the whys that led to that desperate act. But we speak now of the future, the same future which will see the rise to national prominence of the Larkin manufacturing Company and its bringing Frank Lloyd Wright to Buffalo to design not only its headquarters but the homes of many of the company's officials. Enter a world of society, music, spiritualism, the Pan American Exposition, electricty, the automobile (after the popularity of the bicycle), and the assassination of not one but two Presidents. Tragic deaths, hopeless loves, even the possibility of repressed memories of unbearable pain and horror. Fact and fiction intertwine as HRFB follows the lives and loves of two very different women over four decades as they struggle to find their place and themselves in one of the most prosperous and fastest growing cities in America. Margaret Trussler and Lizzie Knapp are strangers with seemingly nothing in common as their stories begin in 1875 . . .

Book excerpt: Axel Platzoff does not work at the Handy Pavilion by choice. Stacking shelves seemed beneath the former supervillain who had come close to world domination so many times. But as part of his plea deal with the Hague, Axel had to work somewhere, so he worked at the big-box hardware store in the sleepy Australian suburb of South Hertling. Fortunately, he is not the only eccentric employee of the place. Other Pavilionites come from backgrounds almost as strange as Axel's. There are cyborgs, ape-men, ghosts, and assistant managers; dryads, time-travellers, demigods and school leavers. Finally, Axel feels at home. Then, tragedy strikes. The construction of a rival hardware store, just across Hurley Road, threatens Axel's living and his new friends. Axel has no choice but to to take the fight to his enemies, the only way he knows how. But is the DIY Barn really nothing but a rival hardware store, or is it a front for sinister forces, far more terrifying than the Pavilionites ever imagined? (Spoiler: It's the second one) An engaging mix of urban fantasy and workplace comedy, Mysterious Aisles follows its eccentric ensemble cast as they march towards open warfare with the Barnling forces.

It is the only book explaining from a young African American boy's viewpoint, that everyone speaks differently depending on their present audience and situation.I wrote the book especially to attract "uninspired readers" and guide them toward improving literacy, self-esteem and problem solving. There are many ways to teach and everyone must do their part. I don't believe we should be aiming toward producing "cookie cut" children. But we can all be about tailoring toward their varying needs as a COMMUNITY.The Magic Pencil provides suggestions and effective strategies for positive results in an "edutaining" way!

Book excerpt: In 2503, the World Council re-elects Samuels as Director of Space Research. He is tasked with developing a reply to the message delivered by the alien robot Interface. After many stops and starts, the Directors decide to send a robot, Nuwoman, to track and follow Interface, who they believe is returning to his alien civilisation. The twenty-sixth century has seen rapid development in space technology and robotics. Habitats have been developed on the Moon and Mars, all in an attempt to set up ways to track the spaceships of both Interface and Nuwoman. However, Interface does not behave as expected. Instead of returning to his alien civilisation, he makes a detour. He lingers in the shadows of the Alpha Centauri triple star system, waiting for Nuwoman. Interface becomes infatuated with the development of Nuwoman. This incredible meeting of two like minds is both intellectual and romantic—and not at all what the Directors expected. Nevertheless Earth’s reply to the message from the neighbours is a success.

Download or read book Dorian Graying written by Robert Kastenbaum and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his latest and perhaps most adventuresome book, Robert Kastenbaum offers a fresh view of the quest for perpetual youth. The focus is on the "pretty monster" that Oscar Wilde created a century ago in "The Picture of Dorian Gray". We see Dorian first within the frame of his own times, responding to the pressures of modernization by attempting to escape the natural progression of time. Next we enter Dorian, the Opera, a re-imagining of his quest in the postmodern world of interactive computers. Finally, we observe Dorian's obsession and plight in our own graying society. This insightful analysis of the dangers inherent in becoming "terminally young" also provides a set of propositions worth consideration by gerontologists, educators, philosophers, media mavens, and policy-makers.
