Book Trouble at Puma Creek

Download or read book Trouble at Puma Creek written by Wesley Murphey and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While hunting deer at Puma Creek in Oregon¿s Fall Creek Forest in October 1980, Vietnam veteran Roger Bruington stumbles onto a suspicious shack in the woods. An hour later he is murdered by an Oregon State Police Officer. Did finding the shack get him killed? Or was this a government hit because Bruington was finally going to reveal the U.S. Government¿s cover up of the evidence he turned over in June 1974 proving American POWs were still being held captive in Cambodia, a year after all Vietnam POWs were supposedly released? How will Detective Jim Dowdy, a Korean War veteran, solve the case? In the summer of 1981, the case takes an unexpected twist when more bodies turn up at Puma Creek. Dowdy is determined to bring the killer¿or killers¿to justice, but he under¬estimates what he is up against: ¿the ghost of Vietnam.¿ ¿Trouble at Puma Creek starts with high tension and never lets up. An excellent work of crime fiction,¿ said a retired U.S. Army general, who did two combat tours in Vietnam and once worked in the Defense Intel¬ligence Agency. ¿But I can¿t support the idea of a conspiracy or government-cover up of the POW/MIA issue.¿ If you are a Vietnam veteran, are related to or know a Vietnam veteran, were a hippie in the sixties, seventies or eighties or were just an average person, and you want to experience that time period again, this book will do the trick.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book that starts in the back room of a Vegas casino; a few guys were bored so they wanted to bet on a game. This book goes through a few contestants, the game is not really fixed but the clues are placed in interesting places. I took a bunch of dirty jokes, and woven them into the story. I had to bring a young boy into it for the little Johnny jokes, a blonde for the blonde jokes, a priest, I add and subtract contestants, to bring in different jokes so some get hurt and can’t play, like getting mauled by a tiger, breaking legs, things like that, but keep main players, some jokes can get pretty blue, and some are downright nasty, that is why this is a ADULT book. The rules of the game are simple, you need five people to get a clue, and the clues lead to monuments for a payout. It takes five keys to be turned at once, the teams can’t work together, and gamblers cannot contact the teams in any way or forfeit their million dollar buy in. That is it, so cheating is allowed. The contest takes place within 200 miles of a small town of Wausau, it goes into the upper Michigan, Illinois, and Minnesota, and it takes you on a journey, checking out some weird and beautiful places. Enjoy.

Book Hepatitis B

Download or read book Hepatitis B written by Baruch S. Blumberg and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About 375 million people are infected with the hepatitis B virus. It has killed more people than AIDS and also causes millions of cases of liver cancer. The discovery of this deadly virus and the vaccine against it--a vaccine that is sharply decreasing the infection rate worldwide and is probably the first effective cancer vaccine--was one of the great triumphs of twentieth-century medicine. And it almost didn't happen. With wit and insight, this scientific memoir and story of discovery describes how Baruch Blumberg and a team of researchers found a virus they were not looking for and created a vaccine for a disease they previously knew little about--work that took the author around the world and won him the Nobel Prize. Blumberg and his collaborators were investigating relationships between gene distribution and disease susceptibility, research that was yielding interesting data but no real breakthroughs. Many viewed their work as more field trip than science. But, through decades of hard work and investigative twists and turns, their pursuit led to the hepatitis B antigen, the elusive virus itself, and, ultimately, the vaccine. As he takes the reader through the detective work that culminated in his incredible discovery, the author recounts with immediacy exciting moments in the lab and in the field--from a hair-raising flight to Africa to an unpleasant encounter with Alaskan sled dogs. The hepatitis B story is more than a fascinating chronicle of a major discovery. What Blumberg followed to the virus was a trail of remarkable "accidents" that happen when scientists seek answers to interesting questions. Those events, combined with the investigator's determined persistence, resulted in studies that generated a pharmaceutical industry, have far-flung public-health applications, and saved millions of lives.
