Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an exciting foray into the use of emerging Mixed Reality techniques for examining and analysing archaeological landscapes. Mixed Reality provides an opportunity to merge the real world with virtual elements of relevance to the past, including 3D models, soundscapes, smellscapes and other immersive data. By using Mixed Reality, the results of sophisticated desk-based GIS analyses can be experienced directly within the field and combined with body-centered phenomenological analysis to create an embodied GIS. The book explores the potential of this methodology by applying it in the Bronze Age landscape of Leskernick Hill, Bodmin Moor, UK. Since Leskernick Hill has (famously) already been the subject of intensive phenomenological investigation, it is possible to compare the insights gained from 'traditional' landscape phenomenology with those obtained from the use of Mixed Reality, and effectively combine quantitative GIS analysis and phenomenological fieldwork into one embodied experience. This mixing of approaches leads to the production of a new innovative method which not only provides new interpretations of the settlement on Leskernick Hill but also suggests avenues for the future of archaeological landscape research more generally. The book will be of interest to anyone studying or working in the fields of landscape archaeology, digital techniques in archaeology, archaeological theory or GIS.

Book The Dead Eye and the Deep Blue Sea

Download or read book The Dead Eye and the Deep Blue Sea written by Vannak Anan Prum and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too poor to pay his pregnant wife's hospital bill, Vannak Anan Prum left his village in Cambodia to seek work in Thailand. Men who appeared to be employers on a fishing vessel promised to return him home after a few months at sea, but instead Vannak was hostaged on the vessel for four years of hard labor. Amid violence and cruelty, including frequent beheadings, Vannak survived in large part by honing his ability to tattoo his shipmates--a skill he possessed despite never having been trained in art or having had access to art supplies while growing up. As a means of escape, Vannak and a friend jumped into the water and, hugging empty fish-sauce containers because they could not swim, reached Malaysia in the dark of night. At the harbor, they were taken into a police station . . . then sold by their rescuers to work on a plantation. Vannak was kept as a laborer for over a year before an NGO could secure his return to Cambodia. After five years away, Vannak was finally reunited with his family. Vannak documented his ordeal in raw, colorful, detailed illustrations, first created because he believed that without them no one would believe his story. Indeed, very little is known about what happens to the men and boys who end up working on fishing boats in Asia, and these images are some of the first records. In regional Cambodia, many families still wait for men who have disappeared across the Thai border, and out to sea. The Dead Eye and the Deep Blue Sea is a testament to the lives of these many fishermen who are trapped on boats in the Indian Ocean.

Book Secrets and Scrabble Box Set

Download or read book Secrets and Scrabble Box Set written by Josh Lanyon and published by JustJoshin Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-12-16 with total page 897 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ellery Page, aspiring screenwriter, Scrabble champion, and guy-with-worst-luck-in-the-world-when-it-comes-to-dating, is ready to make a change. So when he learns he’s inherited both a failing bookshop and a falling-down mansion in the quaint seaside village of Pirate’s Cove in Rhode Island, it’s full steam ahead! Sure enough, the village is charming, its residents amusingly eccentric, and widowed police chief Jack Carson is decidedly yummy (though possibly as straight as he is stern). However, the bookstore is failing, the mansion is falling down, and there’s that little drawback of a homicide rate higher than the village of St. Mary Mead and Midsomer County put together! This collection includes the first four novels in the Secrets and Scrabble series. Book 1 - Murder in Pirate’s Cove When Police Chief Jack Carson learns unpleasant bookseller Trevor Maples was killed with the pirate’s cutlass hanging over the door of rival Ellery Page’s bookstore, Ellery jumps from cute newcomer to prime suspect. Book 2 – Secret at Skull House Unlike everyone else in Pirate’s Cove, Ellery is less than thrilled when famed horror author Brandon Abbott announces he’s purchased legendary Skull House and plans to live there permanently. Ellery and Brandon have history and Ellery has to wonder what Brandon is really up to? Book 3 – Mystery at the Masquerade As his relationship with Police Chief Carson seems to be dead in the water, Ellery is grateful for a little flattering attention from the village’s most eligible bachelor, but any hopes of romance hit the shoals when murder makes an appearance at the annual Masquerade. Book 4 - Scandal at the Salty Dog Who or what is haunting elderly and eccentric Miss Blackwell, what, if anything, does it have to do with mysterious goings-on at the Salty Dog pub—and why is any of it Ellery’s problem?
