Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boys4U is the world's most popular singing group - at least among teenaged girls - and they have closed out their sold-out world tour with a series of shows in Chicago's brand new arena. The premier group of the inexplicably popular "boy band" trend, they've just finished their very last concert of the tour. While hundreds of tour members, well-wishers, label executives, and various hangers on wait to celebrate another wildly successful tour, the lead singer is found murdered - shot in the back of the head at close range - in the shower of the backstage dressing area. To make matters more distressing, the crime itself was almost impossible - there was tight security on the shower area at all times, the only other people back there were the other members of the band, and none of the dozens of people in the next room report having heard a shot. While the international press is engaged in an unprecedented feeding frenzy over the sensationalistic murder, Chicago Police Detectives Paul Turner and his partner Buck Fenwick have pulled the unenviable task of investigating the murder. But even the initial appearances are deceiving and as they dig deeper into the case, they uncover more disturbing truths beneath the wholesome façade of Boys4U. Now they have untangle an increasingly complex web if they are to stop a determined killer before more victims are claimed. Dead Egotistical Morons is Mark Richard Zubro's wildest mystery yet, and it will have you guessing until the very end ...

Book excerpt: After years of avoiding volunteer organizations, Chicago high school teacher Tom Mason is finally guilted into volunteering a few hours a week at a local gay services clinic. Since he finds the bitter in-fighting at the organization to be intolerable, and the head of the clinic to be downright poisonous, Tom does his hours on early Saturday morning before anyone else arrives and avoids most of the office politics. But his quiet Saturday goes quickly awry when two gay teens, in a particularly difficult situation, seek him out for counseling early to avoid being seen by anyone else. After they leave, Tom decides to tidy up the cramped, disordered office and file some of the tettering piles that are practically everywhere. Filing turns out to be a surprisingly gruesome task, however, when in one of the filing cabinet drawers Tom finds the severed head of the director of the clinic. The director, called Snarly Bitch behind his back because of his unpleasant demeanor, had a particularly long enemies' list and Tom himself is not particularly choked up about his untimely demise. But with a long suspect list, a fairly indifferent police force, and the welfare of some of the clinic's youthful charges on the line, Tom himself must sort out the murder before an innocent takes the fall for this very unusual crime.

Book The Gay Detective Novel

Download or read book The Gay Detective Novel written by Judith A. Markowitz and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-02-16 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gertrude Stein called it "the only really modern novel form that has come into existence," yet the mystery genre was a century old before it featured its first gay main character in a novel. Since then, gay and lesbian detective fiction has been one of the fastest growing segments of the genre. It incorporates gay and lesbian cultural elements and offers crossover appeal. Its authors call upon a century of development in the mystery genre, while providing new, more accurate images of lesbians and gay men than generally found in mainstream literature and popular media. This groundbreaking study of gay and lesbian detective fiction examines mystery series and historically significant stand-alone novels published since the early 1960s. Part I is an overview that describes how these novels make gay and lesbian life visible and forge new, powerful images. It also examines how they fit into the larger history of mystery fiction. The series analyses in Part II are grouped according to the type of main character (police officer, private investigator, amateur sleuth, etc.). Each section discusses main and secondary characters of that type, characteristic themes for the group, and more. The analyses of individual series cover main characters, themes, plot points and other elements. Comments from authors interviewed for this book play a central role in those analyses. Part III lists series-spanning themes (e.g., homophobia, the closet, gay marriage) and the novels and series that address each of those themes.

Book The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film

Download or read book The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film written by Drewey Wayne Gunn and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film (2005), scholar Drewey Wayne Gunn examined the history of gay detectives beginning with the first recognized gay novel, The Heart in Exile, which appeared in 1953. In the years since the original edition's publication, hundreds of novels and short stories in this sub-genre have been produced, and Gunn has unearthed many additional representations previously unrecorded. In this new edition, Gunn provides an overview of milestones in the development of gay detectives over the last several decades. Also included in this volume is an annotated list of novels, short stories, plays, graphic novels, comic strips, films, and television series with gay detectives, gay sleuths of secondary importance, and non-sleuthing gay policemen. The most complete listing available--including the only listing of early gay pulp novels, present-day male-to-male romances, and erotic films--this new edition brings the work up to date with publications missed in the first edition, particularly cross-genre mysteries, early pulps, and some hard-to-find volumes. The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film: A History and Annotated Bibliography lists all printed works in English (including translations) presently known to include gay detectives (such as amateur sleuths, police detectives, private investigators, and investigative reporters), from the 1929 play Rope until the present day. It includes all films in English, subtitled or dubbed, from the screen version of Rope in 1948 and the launch of the independent film Spy on the Fly in 1966 through the end of 2011. Complete with two appendices--a bibliography of sources and a list of Lambda Literary Awards--and indexes of titles, detectives, and actors, this extensively revised and updated reference will prove invaluable to mystery collectors, researchers, aficionados of the subgenre, and those devoted to GLBTQ studies.

Book Foolish Naive or Just Plain Stupid

Download or read book Foolish Naive or Just Plain Stupid written by Victor Bernson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-26 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book and its content hopefully will create a fire in the believers of the “little guy” or the “common people” of America. The modern-day politician and the Washington Bureaucracy have abused their powers, the “Constitution,” and the “Bill of Rights”; and it’s time we the people of America take back our government. Enough is enough, and we the people should get rid of ALL politicians who disassemble or ignore our “Constitution” and replace them with people who want to work “for” us. We do not care about Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, or any political party. We want “Patriotic Americans” who want to properly represent us and honor our “Constitution.” We want all you dishonest, greedy, and self-serving politicians to take a hike and stop running this country. We want less government in our lives at both the “Local” and “Federal” level and most of all stop trying to control our freedoms, beliefs, and values. This is the “people’s Country” and all you politicians should take note and remember that. Your position in government is to “serve” not control.

This was Zorga's conflict when he struck a deal with Dr. 64; a mad scientist with an uncompromising god complex. Recruiting this devious scientist with a reputation for using unlicensed forms of applied science would mean his son's life would ultimately belong to the Siberians by law. But fortunately for Zorga, a shelter gifted to him by an old friend lies abandoned beneath the wreckage of a war-torn city on Earth. Here he could raise his son without arousing suspicion from the Siberians. That is, until the Siberian army-which had been sent to Earth for a mission- came across them and abducted Zorga's son, Zalga, for Admiral Turbs' personal gain.
