Book Mild Differentiability Conditions for Newton s Method in Banach Spaces

Download or read book Mild Differentiability Conditions for Newton s Method in Banach Spaces written by José Antonio Ezquerro Fernandez and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-03 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors use a technique based on recurrence relations to study the convergence of the Newton method under mild differentiability conditions on the first derivative of the operator involved. The authors’ technique relies on the construction of a scalar sequence, not majorizing, that satisfies a system of recurrence relations, and guarantees the convergence of the method. The application is user-friendly and has certain advantages over Kantorovich’s majorant principle. First, it allows generalizations to be made of the results obtained under conditions of Newton-Kantorovich type and, second, it improves the results obtained through majorizing sequences. In addition, the authors extend the application of Newton’s method in Banach spaces from the modification of the domain of starting points. As a result, the scope of Kantorovich’s theory for Newton’s method is substantially broadened. Moreover, this technique can be applied to any iterative method. This book is chiefly intended for researchers and (postgraduate) students working on nonlinear equations, as well as scientists in general with an interest in numerical analysis.

Book A History of Abstract Algebra

Download or read book A History of Abstract Algebra written by Jeremy Gray and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides an accessible account of the history of abstract algebra, tracing a range of topics in modern algebra and number theory back to their modest presence in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and exploring the impact of ideas on the development of the subject. Beginning with Gauss’s theory of numbers and Galois’s ideas, the book progresses to Dedekind and Kronecker, Jordan and Klein, Steinitz, Hilbert, and Emmy Noether. Approaching mathematical topics from a historical perspective, the author explores quadratic forms, quadratic reciprocity, Fermat’s Last Theorem, cyclotomy, quintic equations, Galois theory, commutative rings, abstract fields, ideal theory, invariant theory, and group theory. Readers will learn what Galois accomplished, how difficult the proofs of his theorems were, and how important Camille Jordan and Felix Klein were in the eventual acceptance of Galois’s approach to the solution of equations. The book also describes the relationship between Kummer’s ideal numbers and Dedekind’s ideals, and discusses why Dedekind felt his solution to the divisor problem was better than Kummer’s. Designed for a course in the history of modern algebra, this book is aimed at undergraduate students with an introductory background in algebra but will also appeal to researchers with a general interest in the topic. With exercises at the end of each chapter and appendices providing material difficult to find elsewhere, this book is self-contained and therefore suitable for self-study.

Book Inequalities In Analysis And Probability Second Edition

Download or read book Inequalities In Analysis And Probability Second Edition written by Odile Pons and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is aimed at graduate students and researchers with basic knowledge of Probability and Integration Theory. It introduces classical inequalities in vector and functional spaces with applications to probability. It also develops new extensions of the analytical inequalities, with sharper bounds and generalizations to the sum or the supremum of random variables, to martingales and to transformed Brownian motions. The proofs of many new results are presented in great detail. Original tools are developed for spatial point processes and stochastic integration with respect to local martingales in the plane. This second edition covers properties of random variables and time continuous local martingales with a discontinuous predictable compensator, with exponential inequalities and new inequalities for their maximum variable and their p-variations. A chapter on stochastic calculus presents the exponential sub-martingales developed for stationary processes and their properties. Another chapter devoted itself to the renewal theory of processes and to semi-Markovian processes, branching processes and shock processes. The Chapman-Kolmogorov equations for strong semi-Markovian processes provide equations for their hitting times in a functional setting which extends the exponential properties of the Markovian processes.
