Book Sonic and Photonic Crystals

Download or read book Sonic and Photonic Crystals written by Lien-Wen Chen and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-14 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sonic/phononic crystals termed acoustic/sonic band gap media are elastic analogues of photonic crystals and have also recently received renewed attention in many acoustic applications. Photonic crystals have a periodic dielectric modulation with a spatial scale on the order of the optical wavelength. The design and optimization of photonic crystals can be utilized in many applications by combining factors related to the combinations of intermixing materials, lattice symmetry, lattice constant, filling factor, shape of the scattering object, and thickness of a structural layer. Through the publications and discussions of the research on sonic/phononic crystals, researchers can obtain effective and valuable results and improve their future development in related fields. Devices based on these crystals can be utilized in mechanical and physical applications and can also be designed for novel applications as based on the investigations in this Special Issue.

Book Plasmonics and its Applications

Download or read book Plasmonics and its Applications written by Grégory Barbillon and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasmonics is a rapidly developing field that combines fundamental research and applications ranging from areas such as physics to engineering, chemistry, biology, medicine, food sciences, and the environmental sciences. Plasmonics appeared in the 1950s with the discovery of surface plasmon polaritons. Plasmonics then went through a novel propulsion in the mid-1970s, when surface-enhanced Raman scattering was discovered. Nevertheless, it is in this last decade that a very significant explosion of plasmonics and its applications has occurred. Thus, this book provides a snapshot of the current advances in these various areas of plasmonics and its applications, such as engineering, sensing, surface-enhanced fluorescence, catalysis, and photovoltaic devices.

  • Author : Vassily Babich
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2018-04-09
  • ISBN : 1315314746
  • Pages : 227 pages

Download or read book Elastic Waves written by Vassily Babich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastic Waves: High Frequency Theory is concerned with mathematical aspects of the theory of high-frequency elastic waves, which is based on the ray method. The foundations of elastodynamics are presented along with the basic theory of plane and spherical waves. The ray method is then described in considerable detail for bulk waves in isotropic and anisotropic media, and also for the Rayleigh waves on the surface of inhomogeneous anisotropic elastic solids. Much attention is paid to analysis of higher-order terms and to generation of waves in inhomogeneous media. The aim of the book is to present a clear, systematic description of the ray method, and at the same time to emphasize its mathematical beauty. Luckily, this beauty is usually not accompanied by complexity and mathematical ornateness.
