Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication sets out analyses of likely energy policy developments and frameworks within the 25 EU Member States (EU-25) to the year 2030, including scenarios for baseline development based on the continuation of current trends and policies, as well as for alternative energy futures based on key drivers related to different framework conditions for energy and transport policies. These include higher world energy prices, higher or lower economic growth, as well as different policy approaches relating to energy efficiency, renewables, nuclear energy, modal split in transport and climate change. The scenario results were derived with the PRIMES model operated by the National Technical University of Athens.

Download or read book Achieving Sustainable Mobility written by Erling Holden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable mobility has become the new imperative for transport policy. There have been a number of policy attempts at sustainable mobility globally, such as the development of more efficient conventional transport technologies, the promotion of efficient and affordable public transport systems and the encouragement of environmental awareness. Such policies have so often been presented as prerequisites for sustainable mobility that they are now taken for granted. But are any of these policies really successful? To what extent do they actually contribute (or fail to contribute) to sustainable mobility? Why do some policies succeed and others fail? Using an interdisciplinary approach which brings together various theories and methodologies, this book tests each of these policies - or hypotheses, as the author sees them - with detailed empirical investigations. It also argues that leisure-time travel should be included in any sustainable mobility policies, as it now accounts for 50 per cent of all annual travel distance in developed countries. The book concludes by suggesting fourteen theses of sustainable mobility for the EU and a new model for future best practice.

Download or read book Networks Space and Competitiveness written by Roberta Capello and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a period of increasing globalization and rapid growth in emerging countries, recognizing sources of regional competitiveness is of paramount importance. This timely and informative book identifies and analyses changes in the origins of regional advantage. The expert contributors illustrate that sources of regional competitiveness are strongly linked with spatially observable yet increasingly flexible realities, and include building advanced and efficient transport, communications and energy networks, changing urban and rural landscapes, and creating strategic and forward-looking competitiveness policies. They investigate long-term interactions between regional competitiveness and urban mobility, as well as the connections that link global sustainability with local technological and institutional innovations, and the intrinsic diversity of spatially rooted innovation processes. A prospective analysis on networks and innovation infrastructure is presented, global environmental issues such as climate change and energy are explored, and new policy perspectives Ð relevant world-wide Ð are prescribed. Networks, Space and Competitiveness will prove an invaluable resource for academics, students and researchers across a range of fields including international and regional economics, regional science, economic geography and international business.

Download or read book Environmental Impact IV written by J. Casares and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2018-10-23 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprising a collection of papers from the 4th International Conference on Environmental and Economic Impact on Sustainable Development, the research studies included in this book consider the impact of economic constraints on the environment, taking into account the social aspects as well as the over-use of natural resources. The papers examine issues related to whether some forms of development are compatible with environmental protection, particularly in cases of possible serious contamination and toxicity. Uncontrolled development can result in damage to the environment in terms of the release of toxic substances and hazardous waste. Addressing problems of great importance, this book examines more constructive and progressive approaches to ensure sustainability. A major motivation is to learn from past failure, to avoid repeating similar mistakes, while attempting to prevent emerging threats to environmental and ecological systems. Fundamental to these concepts are the analysis of the inherent risk and the development of appropriate strategies.
