Download or read book Data Reduction Techniques for Aerosol Size Distribution Measuring Instruments written by Abde Kapadia and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data reduction methods for the electrical aerosol analyzer (EAA) and the diffusi on battery-condensation nuclei counter (DB-CNC) are presented. Both the EAA and DB-CNC can be modeled by the Fredholm Integral Equation of the First Kind. Thus, the data reduction methods for both the instruments are similar. For the EAA, f our data reduction methods are presented. First, an optimized EAA channel method is presented, in which the channel boundaries are chosen such that the response matrix can be approximated by an identity matrix. This method is applicable onl y for specialized applications of the EAA. The next two methods are based on two non-linear algorithms (NLIA). When using the NLIA's, no assumption regarding th e form of the aerosol size distribution must be made. Finally, a curve-fitting p rocedure based on a simplex minimization algorithm is investigated. This method gives the parameters of unimodal or bimodal log-normal distribution which best f its the data. The two NLIA's and the curve-fitting procedure were also applied t o the DB-CNC data reduction problem. The data reduction methods for both the ins truments were analyzed with simulated and experimental data. For the EAA, the co mparison between the different data reduction methods for the number of distribu tion is excellent. However, for the surface and volume distributions, the agreem ent was only satisfactory in the size range of 0.316 to 1.0 (mu)m. The agreement between the number distribution retrieved by the three data reduction methods f or the DB-CNC was found to be good. Also, between different diffusion battery me asurements for the same aerosol, the geometric number mean diameters (DGN) deter mined by the simplex minimization curve-fitting procedure agree satisfactorily. However, the agreement in the various estimates of the geometric standard deviat ion becomes unsatisfactory as the DGN increases. Finally, it was shown that for large number mean diameters, the response of the diffusion battery does not chan ge significantly with a considerable change in the dispersion parameter, g. Thus, the resolution of g with the diffusion battery is poor.
Download or read book Bioaerosols Handbook written by Christopher S. Cox and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive handbook provides up-to-date knowledge and practical advice from established authorities in aerosol science. It covers the principles and practices of bioaerosol sampling, descriptions and comparisons of bioaerosol samplers, calibration methods, and assay techniques, with an emphasis on practicalities, such as which sampler to use and where it should be placed. The text also offers critiques concerning handling the samples to provide representative and meaningful assays for their viability, infectivity, and allergenicity. A wide range of microbes-viz., viruses, bacteria, fungi and pollens, and their fragments-are considered from such perspectives. Bioaerosols Handbook is divided into four parts, providing a wide-ranging reference work, as well as a practical guide on how best to sample and assay bioaerosols using current technology.

Download or read book Aerosol Science and Technology written by David S. Ensor and published by RTI Press. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerosol Science and Technology: History and Reviews captures an exciting slice of history in the evolution of aerosol science. It presents in-depth biographies of four leading international aerosol researchers and highlights pivotal research institutions in New York, Minnesota, and Austria. One collection of chapters reflects on the legacy of the Pasadena smog experiment, while another presents a fascinating overview of military applications and nuclear aerosols. Finally, prominent researchers offer detailed reviews of aerosol measurement, processes, experiments, and technology that changed the face of aerosol science. This volume is the third in a series and is supported by the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) History Working Group, whose goal is to produce archival books from its symposiums on the history of aerosol science to ensure a lasting record. It is based on papers presented at the Third Aerosol History Symposium on September 8 and 9, 2006, in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA.
Download or read book Aerosol Measurement written by Paul A. Baron and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2001-10 with total page 1170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, industry has become increasingly interested in modern aerosol measurement methods, not only to protect the health of their workers but also to augment productivity and thereby gain competitive advantage. Aerosol Measurement: Principles, Techniques, and Applications, Second Edition offers scientists and practitioners the fundamental principles used in deciding which aerosol properties to measure and how to interpret the results. Divided into three parts, the material reviews the physical understanding of aerosols, covers specific instrumental techniques, and explains applications in fields ranging from health care to mining and upper-atmosphere research. Leading experts contribute to the review of such areas as direct-reading techniques, bioaerosol sampling, indoor air evaluations, industrial aerosol processing, and measurement in semiconductor clean rooms. Plus, all the chapters in this latest edition have been updated and some have been rewritten by new authors. Two new chapters have been added: one on historical aspects of aerosol measurements and the other on real-time single particle analysis.

Download or read book Fine Particulate Pollution written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fine Particulate Pollution deals with the state of knowledge and the status of technology relating to pollution caused by fine particulates. The topics span all scientific and technical disciplines associated with atmospheric fine particulate pollution, including the definition of fine particulates, health effects, measurement, and sources, along with transport and transformation, control technology, regulations, economics, and research. This book is divided into six sections and begins with an overview of the chemical and physical characteristics of fine particles such as particle size, shape, morphology, chemical composition, resistivity, and electric charge. Subsequent sections examine the health and environmental effects of particulate pollutants; emission sources and control of fine particulate air pollution; chemical and physical reactions, transport, and fate of fine particulate pollutants; and sampling, monitoring, and measurement of fine particulate pollutants. The final section looks at regulations for fine particles in countries such as Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States. This monograph will be of interest to environmentalists as well as environmental policymakers and government officials concerned with air pollution control.
