Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stéphane Mosès explores in Displacements the poetry of Paul Celan and the work of major German-Jewish thinkers in the context of his distinction between normative and critical modernity. The first part contains a translation of his book Approches de Paul Celan, the third part a translation of his lecture series Figures philosophiques de la modernité juive, and the central section contains, alongside a text on Freud, essays on Goethe and Büchner that extend his analysis beyond the Jewish sphere while engaging with the questions of tradition and its fragmentation that he raises there. Edited, translated, and with an Introduction by Ashraf Noor.

Download or read book Poetic Writing and the Vietnam War in West Germany written by Mererid Puw Davies and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1960s and 1970s in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), or West Germany, newspaper readers and television viewers were appalled by terrible images of fires burning half a world away. The Vietnam War was a decisive catalyst for the era’s wider protest movements and gave rise to an ardent anti-war discourse. This discourse privileged writing in many forms. Within it, poetry and poetic writing were key; and because coverage of the conflict in Vietnam often focused on spectacular, destructive conflagrations ignited by hi-tech machines of war, their dominant trope was fire. Hundreds of poems and related writings about Vietnam circulated in the FRG, yet they are almost entirely forgotten today. Poetic Writing and the Vietnam War in West Germany uncovers and explores some of this rich production in order to present a new history of engaged poetic writing in the FRG in the 1960s and 1970s, and to draw out distinctive characteristics of wider protest culture. In doing so, it makes the case for attending to marginal, non-canonical or neglected literary and cultural forms, and for critical thinking about why they might, over time, have been obscured. This book offers, too, a case study for reflection on the representation of war, on ways in which German oppositional culture could imagine its others, and the ways in which other voices could speak to it in turn, and on the relationship of poetry to the historical world.
Download or read book Panorama written by Michaela Melián and published by Sternberg Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This catalogue is the most comprehensive treatment of Michaela Melián's oeuvre to date and constitutes, with numerous essays and illustrations, a long due documentation of the German artist's work. The texts discuss how, since the late 1980s, Melián has consistently pursued a strategy of rendering visible the social--that complex web of power, system, gender, and class--uncovering it, even where it lies buried by familiarity and habit. Download or read book Beyond the Bermuda Triangle written by Bruce Gernon and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2017-07-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I didn’t believe in time travel or teleportation until it happened to me. I’m Bruce Gernon, and I flew through the heart of the Bermuda Triangle before I’d even heard the term. Skeptics have dismissed the Triangle as a nonmystery, but they weren’t in my airplane when the fog surrounded my craft and I leaped ahead 100 miles. I documented what happened and memorized every detail of that flight. Now I’m ready to explain that there is no Bermuda Triangle! Instead, there is a continuing mystery that has resulted in thousands of disappearances of crafts and loss of life over decades and centuries: a phenomenon I call electronic fog. In Beyond the Bermuda Triangle, Rob MacGregor and I present multiple cases of pilots and others who have experienced electronic fog in the air, in the water, and on land. We also examine UFO and USO cases and their possible relationship with space/time warps. Among the fascinating topics we explore: Time travel and teleportation. Lost crafts, including Flight 19. The Dragon’s Triangle. The Underwater Area 51. The man who is building a warp drive. A remote viewer who takes on the Triangle.
